Metallica marks the 30th anniversary of its self-titled fifth album — a/k/a The Black Album — with two landmark releases, both out September 10th on the band’s own Blackened Recordings:

The Black Album is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed records of all time. Its 1991 release not only gave Metallica its first #1 album in no fewer than 10 countries, including a 4-week run at #1 in the U.S., its unrelenting series of singles — “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Wherever I May Roam”, and “Sad But True” — fueled the band’s rise to stadium headlining, radio and MTV dominating household name status. The album’s reception from the press was similarly charged, building over the years from the top 10 of the 1991 Village Voice Pazz & Jop national critics poll to becoming a constant presence in the likes of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The album’s impact and relevance continue to grow—as proven by one indisputable fact: The Black Album remains unchallenged as the best-selling album in the history of Nielsen Soundscan, outselling every release in every genre over the past 30 years.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, the GRAMMY-winning, 16x platinum-certified Black Album is receiving its definitive re-release.  Remastered for ultimate sound quality, The Black Album remaster will be available in multiple configurations including 180 gram Double Vinyl LP, Standard CD and 3 CD Expanded Edition, digital, and Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set (containing the album remastered on 180G 2LP, a picture disc, three live LPs, 14 CDs (containing rough mixes, demos, interviews, live shows), 6 DVDs (containing outtakes, behind the scenes, official videos, live shows), a 120-page hardcover book, four tour laminates, three lithos, three guitar picks, a Metallica lanyard, a folder with lyric sheets, and a download card).

Much more than a mere tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist celebrates the enduring influence of this musical milestone with one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived by the Metallica team: An unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut.

The Metallica Blacklist offers up new dimensions of the record whose gravitational pull first drew the mainstream to Metallica—and provides new insights into the universal and timeless appeal that kept it there: the boundary-smashing influence these 12 songs have had on fans and musicians of all stripes. The Metallica Blacklist’s 53 tracks find singer songwriters, country artists, electronic and hip hop artists sharing their love of these songs alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music and many, many more… and for 50+ good causes: Profits will be divided evenly between charities of the artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation.

The Metallica Blacklist is a fitting and limitless homage, one that features bands who’ve shared stages with Metallica alongside artists who are younger than the original album. It’s a truly staggering, at times mystifying assemblage of musicians, dozens of whom have little to nothing in common other than the shared passion for the music that’s united them for this album: 1 Album. 12 Songs. 53 Artists. Unlimited Possibilities.

The Metallica Blacklist will be available in formats including digital, 4 CD and a limited edition 7 LP vinyl pressing. Pre-orders will instantly receive multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, philanthropist and trailblazer Miley Cyrus’ version of “Nothing Else Matters” featuring WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith, and Colombian-born rock/pop superstar, and winner of 20+ Grammy & Latin Music Grammy Awards  Juanes’ interpretation of “Enter Sandman.”

*All profits from The Metallica Blacklist will be split evenly between the All Within My Hands Foundation and 50+ charities chosen by the artists who play on the album. All Within My Hands was founded by the band in 2017 as a way for the entire Metallica family to give back to communities that have supported the band by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.

It’s Record Store Day Night Fever as the Brothers Foo Gibb it to you good with HAIL SATIN, the high Travoltage debut album of Foo Fighters’ disco alter ego the DEE GEES.

Out July 17 as a limited edition vinyl album packaged era-appropriately in a dazzling rainbow mylar sleeve, HAIL SATIN is the bipolar party record of the summer. Side A features Grohl, Hawkins, Mendel, Smear, Shiflett and Jaffee lighting up the floor at Foo Fighters’ 606 studios with faithful renditions of five stone cold Brothers Gibb classics — Bee Gees bangers “You Should Be Dancing,” Night Fever,” “Tragedy” and “More Than A Woman” + Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing” — while side B literally rocks the party with live at 606 renditions of roughly half of Foo Fighters pandemic panacea album MEDICINE AT MIDNIGHT.

The full track listing for HAIL SATIN is:

Side A — The DEE GEES:
You Should Be Dancing
Night Fever
Tragedy
Shadow Dancing
More Than a Woman

Side B — LIVE at 606:
Making A Fire
Shame Shame
Waiting on a War
No Son of Mine
Cloudspotter

The DEE GEES: HAIL SATIN was recorded entirely at 606. For optimal results, listen with exposed chest hair and little gold spoon necklace (If you know, you know…).

CARNAGE the new album by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis is out on vinyl & CD on Friday, 18 June.

To mark the global release of CARNAGE, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis have recorded a very special conversation together, in which they answer questions from fans about their new album.

The pre-recorded audio conversation will be streamed via YouTube Premiere at 7pm BST on Friday, and will be available online following the streaming event www.nickcave.com/talkcarnage

CARNAGE is a new album by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, recorded over a period of weeks during lockdown. Although the pair have composed & recorded many soundtracks together, and Ellis is a long-term member of The Bad Seeds, this is the first time they have released an entire album of songs as a duo.

Cave describes the album as, “a brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe.”

“Making Carnage was an accelerated process of intense creativity,” says Ellis, “the eight songs were there in one form or another within the first two and a half days.”

Cave & Ellis’ sonic and lyrical adventurism continues apace on Carnage, an album that emerged almost by accident out of the downtime created by the long, anxious, global emergency.

Carnage is a record for these uncertain times – one shot through with moments of distilled beauty and that resonates with an almost defiant sense of hope. Their creative chemistry is rooted in their long history of music making, both as collaborators and as individual artists. They first crossed paths in 1993, when Ellis played violin on several songs for the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album, Let Love In, before going on to join the band as a full time member. The two have also recorded as Grinderman, formed in 2006, and have composed and recorded numerous, film, TV and theatre soundtracks together.

BECK: HYPERSPACE (2020) RECORD STORE DAY EXCLUSIVE PRESSING

BECK
HYPERSPACE (2020)

RECORD STORE DAY EXCLUSIVE PRESSING

Limited Edition of 1500 Out June 12

“Chemical (Chloé Caillet Remix)” Available June 11

Beck opens the door to yet another dimension of his GRAMMY Award-winning Hyperspace, with a Record Store Day exclusive pressing of Hyperspace (2020) out June 12. Limited to 1500 copies and featuring new cover art and holographic etchings, this one-time-only pressing of Hyperspace (2020) also includes the original elements of last year’s Hyperspace A.I. Exploration version of the record: a 24-page booklet with A.I. images and NASA data for each track, bonus tracks “Dark Places (Soundscape)” and Beck’s solo acoustic version of Chris Bell’s “I Am The Cosmos (42420),” and 2020 mixes of “Star”, “Hyperspace”, “See Through” and “Die Waiting”.

Additionally, another new take on a Hyperspace track will be released one day earlier, in the form of “Chemical (Chloé Caillet Remix)”, available digitally June 11. “Chemical (Chloé Caillet Remix)” turns the tables of Beck, giving him the reinterpretation treatment he’s recently applied to Remi Wolf’s “Sauce” and of course his version of “Find My Way” on Paul McCartney’s III Imagined album.

Originally released November 22, 2019 on Capitol Records, Hyperspace was met with universal acclaim, including a 4-star Rolling Stone review likening Beck’s voice to “David Bowie’s Major Tom checking in from distant orbit,” People magazine hailing the album as Beck’s “best in a decade,” and the Associated Press noting “There is not a boring moment on the entire album.” More recently, Hyperspace won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards.

Foo Fighters first headlined a sold-out Garden in February 2008 on their “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” Tour, returning to rock the venue for another sell-out show in November 2011 on the “Wasting Light” Tour. Most recently, the band sold-out two nights at The World’s Most Famous Arena in July 2018, on their “Concrete and Gold” Tour. The announcement of the June 20 MSG show follows the news of Foo Fighters’ first six U.S. dates of their upcoming “25th 26th Anniversary” Tour.

ALBUM ARTWORK (FOR MEDIA USE): DOWNLOAD

Following singles “Delicate Butterfly (feat. Lucius),” “Until We Equal (feat. Brandon Markell Holmes),” and “Saudades de lá (feat. Karina Buhr),” JOMORO today release their debut album Blue Marble Sky, including the new single “Nest” featuring Sharon Van Etten – LISTEN HERE.

“The instrumental music Mauro and I created for ‘Nest’ gives me the same feeling I remember when listening to certain goth bands as a kid – simultaneously dark and sweet, ethereal and other worldly,” says JOMORO’s Joey Waronker about the Sharon Van Etten-featuring track. “I immediately imagined Sharon distilling and focusing that feeling, turning it into a more powerful statement. And that is exactly what happened. The first idea she sent is the song you hear. We didn’t even change the sound of the vocals. It was perfect for what we had imagined, and I’m so happy and grateful to her for this contribution.”

Meeting at the convergence of electronic and organic percussions, JOMORO is the moniker for the duo of…

JOEY WARONKER – Veteran drummer of session and live renown with the likes of Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash, Adele, Beck, Roger Waters, Air and R.E.M., and full-fledged member of Ultraista and Atoms for Peace, the latter of which also featured bandmate…MAURO REFOSCO – International percussionist hailing from Brazil to Broadway—specifically David Byrne’s American Utopia—with additional credits ranging from Vampire Weekend and Red Hot Chili Peppers to Dirty Projectors, Bebel Gilberto and Caetano Veloso, among others.

Whereas the two have recorded together before—notably alongside Thom Yorke, Flea and Nigel Godrich on Atoms For Peace’s #2 charting album AMOK—with JOMORO, Joey and Mauro build their own world on the 12 tracks encompassing Blue Marble Sky.  The expanse of the duo’s musical realm is mapped throughout the sonic geography of the debut album: a travelogue that transports the listener to aural environs ranging from the tranquil Brazilian rainforest to bustling city streets, with occasional breezy pop detours along the way.  Blue Marble Sky was written, played and produced by Joey and Mauro, who made the most of their pandemic downtime trading files bi-coastally, and enlisting collaborators such as bassist Gabe Noel (Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington), trumpeter Michael Leonheart (Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars) and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Mooney (Other Lives).

JOMORO was initially introduced in March with album opener “Mirror,” an instrumental track that has continued to find fans at radio with adds at KCRW, WXPN, KEXP and more.  Divided into vocal tracks, instrumental tracks and Brazilian tracks, among the album’s numerous highlights are “Delicate Butterfly,” which features “shimmering vocals” (Rolling Stone) from Lucius, “Saudades de lá,” one of two tracks on the album featuring vocals from Brazilian singer-songwriter Karina Buhr, “Until We Equal,” a baile-funk track with pulsating synths and politically-charged vocals from Brandon Markell Holmes, as well as today’s beautifully downtempo track Nest,” with vocals from Sharon Van Etten

Ultimately, the myriad of styles and soundscapes represented on JOMORO’s Blue Marble Sky come together in one fluid and fascinating motion, culminating in a multi-tiered collection of music that showcases the breadth of Joey and Mauro’s backgrounds while drawing upon the talents of former collaborators and friends.

Blue Marble Sky is out now via Sony Music Masterworks – LISTEN HERE.
