THE THIRD MAN 45 iPHONE CASE AVAILABLE FOR ORDER NOW AT thirdmanrecords.com

Interchangeable iPhone Record Inserts Also Sold Separately

2011 has been a year of unique collaborations for Third Man Records; Stephen Colbert and garage rock goth girl group The Black Belles, Insane Clown Posse and Mozart, and now our newest mash up, vinyl and the iPhone. Nothing goes together better than vinyl records and technology. With that in mind TMR teamed up with Griffin Technology to create a unique product for a unique generation of music lovers who own one of the most popular smart phones on the market. The Third Man 45 iPhone Case. The Third Man 45 iPhone Case comes in a variety of options and features components made from 7” vinyl records from Third Man’s extensive catalog, all pressed at United Record Pressing in Nashville.

Along with the folks at Third Man, the team at Griffin shares a love of all things vinyl – the immediate and tangible aspect of a record and the experience each listener shares with the music that lies within the grooves of the record. Griffin also calls Nashville home, which made this collaboration all the more accessible and natural. The Griffin team has worked tirelessly with Third Man to bend and mold each piece of this custom project and facilitated the creation of the most accurate reflection of what Third Man represents in a very new and exciting form.

To create The Third Man 45 iPhone Case for use with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, we incorporated a genuine 7” vinyl record, pressed by United Record Pressing in Nashville, TN. The records were then die-cut to create the backs of each case. A molded bumper frame snaps around your iPhone, holding the interchangeable record insert in place and protecting the controls, edges and screen of your precious iPhone.

The Third Man 45 iPhone Case is available in three different variations. You can purchase your Third Man case with a yellow, black, or white frame and each version of the frame comes with 1 black vinyl record back featuring our classic Third Man printed label.

But that’s not all. We went a step further and created three additional record backs featuring some of our prominent Third Man artists. FOO FIGHTERS NOMINATED FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR AND 5 OTHER GRAMMY AWARDS

Wasting Light Nabs Noms For Album of the Year, Best Rock Album; “Walk” For Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song; “White Limo” For Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance; Back & Forth Documentary Nominated For Best Long Form Music Video

Foo Fighters have been nominated in six categories in the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards, including Album of the Year.

In addition to the evening’s highest honor, Wasting Light is also nominated for Best Rock Album, while its current single “Walk” is up for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song and album track “White Limo” is a contender for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. In addition, the band’s acclaimed documentary Foo Fighters: Back and Forth has been nominated for Best Long Form Music Video. Finally, Foo Fighters colleagues racked up two related nominations, with Butch Vig up for Producer of the Year for his work on Wasting Light and the Deadmau5 remix of “Rope” up for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.

Should Foo Fighters sweep the above categories when the GRAMMYs air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12, 2012, the band would double its career GRAMMY tally from six to twelve. The Foos’ previous GRAMMY wins have included three for Best Rock Album (There Is Nothing Left To Lose; One By One; Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace), two Best Hard Rock Performances (“All My Life”; “The Pretender”) and one Best Short Form Music Video (“Learn To Fly”).

Speaking from Melbourne, Australia where Foo Fighters are in the midst of a sold out stadium tour, Dave Grohl said,  “We’re totally honored and blown away at the six nominations for Wasting Light! It’s nice to know that we live in a world where an album made in a garage, entirely to analog tape, with no help from computers, can be nominated for Album of the Year. Long live Rock and Roll!”

The half dozen 2011 GRAMMY nominations are yet another peak in possibly the most phenomenal year of Foo Fighters’ 16-year career to date: The path leading to the nominations began in earnest with the April release of Wasting Light, the band’s seventh studio album and first to hit #1 in its native U.S.–also debuting at #1 in eleven other countries including the UK where it ended Adele’s 11-week run atop the albums chart, and Australia and New Zealand where it has had the biggest first week digital album sales in both country’s chart histories.

2011 has also seen Foo Fighters receive the most positive critical notices of the band’s 16-year career including a 4-star lead review in Rolling Stone calling Wasting Light “the best Foos album since the first two,” as well as the band’s sixth Saturday Night Live appearance, first performance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the theatrical and televised premiere of the Foo Fighters: Back and Forth documentary (directed by Academy Award winner James Moll), and a still-ongoing world tour that included a sold out return to Madison Square Garden, two SRO nights at the L.A. Forum and a 130,000 capacity July 2-3 headline engagement at the Milton Keynes Bowl in the UK.

More recently, the Sam Jones-directed clip for Wasting Light single “Walk” took Best Rock Video honors at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

www.thirdmanrecords.com

Third Man Records celebrates the end of the year with a slew of new reasons to be thankful.

First up is a cornucopia of new vinyl 45 goodness beginning with Edgar Oliver’s “In The Park” b/w “ Hunger and Light” (TMR121). The latest in TMR’s Green Series of spoken word/instructional records comes from Edgar Oliver, the Discovery Channel show Oddities regular and critically-acclaimed, syrup-voiced actor, playwright and noir poet who’s haunted New York City since 1977. On his Third Man single he delivers the chilling poem “In the Park” with palpable suspense. The B-side “Hunger and Light” is recorded in Triple Reverse Cryptophonica ™ and will (hopefully) have you spending hours trying to figure out exactly what he’s saying. Edgar Oliver’s “In The Park” b/w “ Hunger and Light” will be released on vinyl and iTunes on November 22nd.

As for the ongoing Blue Series, a man who needs no introduction — but who we’ll introduce as John C. Reilly will release not one but TWO Third Man singles in November, both featuring Jack White, The Black Belles’ Olivia Jean and Fats Kaplin. John & Tom: “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” b/w “Lonesome Yodel Blues #2” (TMR112) finds John’s duet with Tom Brosseau sung in close harmony as they perform two songs originally by The Delmore Brothers. Becky & John’s “I’ll Be There If You Ever Want” b/w “I’m Making Plans” (TMR113) sees John paired with Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond) and swerves more in the classic country vein taking in tunes originally performed by Ray Price and Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner. Both are released on November 29th on vinyl and iTunes.

But wait, there’s more TMR end of year celebration afoot, namely four offerings from The White Stripes: “The Big Three Killed My Baby” b/w “Red Bowling Ball Ruth” (TMR117) is a reissue of the decade-plus out of print only single off the White Stripes self-titled debut album. The A-side is Jack White’s tempered screed against the monopoly of American auto companies against the accented thud of Meg’s pounding drums. The B-side “Red Bowling Ball Ruth” is exclusive to this single and overflows with AC/DC-inspired rock riffs. Re-mastered direct from the original analog masters! “Lord, Send Me an Angel” b/w “You’re Pretty Good Looking (Trendy American Remix)” (TMR118) was originally released as part of the White Stripes Japan-Australia-New Zealand “Three Island Tour” in October 2000, and now these songs are back in print for the first time in over a decade. The A-side is a cover of Blind Willie McTell’s “Lord, Send Me an Angel” with parts of his classic “Ticket Agent” thrown into the mix for good measure. Pay attention to Jack White’s update of the lyrics to reflect his own geographical location. The flipside is an Auto-Tuned (before they called it that) remix of “You’re Pretty Good Looking” that’s a peculiar novelty to say the least. Both tracks are re-mastered directly from the original master tape.

The last two reissues from the White Stripes catalog to finish out the year are “Candy Cane Children” b/w “Reading of the Story of the Magi”, “Silent Night” (TMR071) and “Hello Operator” b/w “Jolene” (TMR067), releasing December 6th. Merry Christmas from The White Stripes is available again! 333 copies were printed on red vinyl and included as part of the White Stripes 2010 Holiday Merchandise package, but in print forever copies are now to be had on black vinyl. The A-side was originally recorded in 1998 and its’ title has been appropriated by Stripes fans as a term to describe themselves as a group. The B-side features Meg singing an a cappella version of “Silent Night” coupled with Jack reading the Story of the Magi from the Bible. The whole thing is a warming, heartfelt pile of Christmas goodness…dig in! While a picture disc version of “Hello Operator” b/w “Jolene” was available in 2010 from Third Man’s subscription-only series the Vault, the black vinyl, picture sleeve version is now available for all to buy and will be kept in print eternally. The sole single off of the Stripes sophomore “De Stijl” album, “Hello Operator” was the first song legendary UK DJ John Peel ever played by the band. If that wasn’t enough, the B-side showcases the band’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” a long-time fan favorite live only ever available on this single.

Additionally, Third Man Records is excited to announce five exciting new products just in time for this 2012 holiday season. and now, without further ado…

BEST REISSUE OR SPECIAL EDITION OF 2011 CONTENDERS–BEST BETS FOR YOUR GIFT GUIDES:

THIRD MAN: Check out the official TMR Revolution record player, TMR 45 carrying case,  and TMR cleaning kit– (see image below) separate shots of which are all readily available should you want to include them in holiday gift guides.

RYAN ADAMS: Ashes & Fire 3-D Deluxe Box (PAX-AM/Capitol)

ARCADE FIRE: The Suburbs Deluxe Edition (Merge)

BEASTIE BOYS: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two Deluxe Edition (Capitol)

PAUL McCARTNEY: McCartney I & II reissues (Hear Music/Concord)

NIRVANA: Nevermind 20th Anniversary Reissue (Universal)

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: expanded remastered reissue (Rekords Rekords/Domino)

STRAIGHT UP BEST OF 2011 CONTENDERS:

RYAN ADAMS: Ashes & Fire (PAX-AM/Capitol) – Hailed by ESQUIRE as  “the record we always suspected he had in him” and “too good not to write about,”  Ashes & Fire is eleven succinct and beautiful samples of Ryan Adams at his songwriting, performing and singing best. Produced by Glyn Johns, renowned for his work with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash and The Rolling Stones, and featuring guest turns from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and Norah Jones, Ashes & Fire debuted at #7 on the U.S. album chart–tying the career high chart debut of Adams’ Easy Tiger in 2007. The album and its accompanying run of sold out tour dates continue to generate escalating raves at press time…

BEASTIE BOYS: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (Capitol) –  DELUXE EDITION OUT NOVEMBER 25… In a 4 star lead review, ROLLING STONE called Hot Sauce Committee Part Two “the sound of master musicians in their comfort zone, doing everything their own way”–and the first B Boys’ album in seven years to feature both their legendary rhyming skills and their musical prowess wasn’t the only masterwork Mike and the Adams put out there in 2011: The all-star time traveling half-hour epic “Fight For Your Right Revisited” and the Spike Jonze-directed “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” mini action thriller (featuring Santigold) provided mind-blowing visual accompaniment to Beastie Boys’ unparalleled musical vision.

THE BLACK BELLES: The Black Belles (Third Man Records) – Released Nov. 8, a mere week after Olivia Jean, Ruby Rogers, Shelby Lynne and Lil’ Boo rocked NYC, The Black Belles’ debut album moved CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND to rave “Jack White’s Third Man Records has cultivated and released music from a wide variety of artists, but no act in White’s stable may be more interesting than The Black Belles. The band — comprised of basisst Ruby Rogers, drummer Shelby Lynne, synth player Lil’Boo, and guitarist/vocalist/organ player Olivia Jean — create a dark blend of ’60s garage rock and soul with a modern twist.”  And if you happen to be in Nashville Nov. 11 and make your way to their release party at Third Man, one of the 300 copies of pressed on TMR’s exclusive new “Absinthe vinyl” and featuring the censored original cover art would make a great twisted stocking stuffer.

DANGER MOUSE & DANIELE LUPPI: Rome (Capitol) – Hopefully the appearance of “Black” playing over the final scenes of the BREAKING BAD season finale’ reminded you what an incredible and unique piece of work this record was and is. Just as the combination of Danger Mouse and Daniel Luppi’s breathtaking score and Norah Jones’ smoky vocal perfectly complemented the denouement of possibly the best season of television in recent memory, so did Rome and its many other highlights–not least of which was “The Rose With The Broken Neck” featuring Jack White–pay sincere and stunning homage to classic Italian Western soundtracks like Ennio Morricone’s Fistful of Dollars or The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.  Danger Mouse and Luppi went to such lengths to preserve this aesthetic as traveling to Rome to use Morricone’s studio and musicians who actually played on these soundtracks. Vintage instruments were tracked down and bartered for, and every note was recorded in analog with no studio trickery or synthetic instrumentation.

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY: Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (Temporary Residence Ltd) – Here at nasty, we like living in a world where Austin, Texas’ foremost all-instrumenal act Explosions In The Sky can see its fifth album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care debut at #16 on the Billboard Top 200–nearly doubling the first week sales of the band’s previous album, 2007’s All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone. Equally amazing was seeing Explosions In The Sky take its widescreen cinematic live experience–called “one of the most ecstatic displays of loud rock I’ve ever seen” by THE NEW YORKER–to the stage of Radio City Music Hall, where they headlined for the first time earlier this year, and beyond…

FOO FIGHTERS: Wasting Light (Roswell/RCA) – Finally! Foo Fighters’ seventh album was the band’s first to hit #1 in their native U.S.–not to mention 11 other countries! And who have we seen work harder for these just desserts here at nasty than the Foo Fighters since we started working together some 16 years ago? We weren’t alone in hailing the artistic and commercial triumph of Wasting Light and its all-analog glory as captured completely on tape by Butch Vig and the boys in Dave Grohl’s garage: Wasting Light has generated some of the most positive critical notices of Foo Fighters’ career. In a four star Rolling Stone lead review, David Fricke called Wasting Light “the best Foos album since the first two,” while Us Weekly hailed the album as proof that “rock is not dead,” while People’s four star lead review lauded the Foos’ “undiminished intensity,” and Entertainment Weekly awarded it an A- summing up “Here’s the miracle, though: Foo Fighters never feel like a backward-looking band. Light is a muscular rock & roll throwdown, featuring the Foos delivering exactly the kind of catchy, pummeling anthems they’re known for, with total disregard for the whims of the masses.” What’s more, the band’s every triumph and tragedy of the band’s career was chronicled in the Foo Fighters: Back & Forth documentary (directed by Academy Award winner James Moll) which received similarly rapturous reviews upon its theatrical and video release.

GORILLAZ: The Fall CD & digital release (Virgin) – The album created largely on iPad throughout the Gorillaz 19-date North American Tour last autumn and gifted exclusively to members of the Gorillaz fan club on Christmas of 2010 was finally released commercially this spring. Recorded on a daily basis in various hotels and venues, and produced by Gorillaz and Stephen Sedgwick, The Fall, is a 15-track sonic diary of that amazing journey.

PAUL McCARTNEY: Ocean’s Kingdom orchestral release (Hear Music/Telarc/Concord Music Group) – Paul McCartney’s first foray into the world of dance, Ocean’s Kingdom marks the first time Paul has written an original orchestral score or any kind of music for dance and is the result of a collaboration between Paul and New York City Ballet’s Master in Chief Peter Martins, who worked together to present the world premiere of the ballet for in September. Conducted by John Wilson, produced by John Fraser and performed by The London Classical Orchestra, Ocean’s Kingdom saw Paul approaching the project in the same way he writes all other music, driven by his heart rather than his head and inspired by feeling rather than specific technical knowledge. An hour long score featuring four stunning movements – “Ocean’s Kingdom,” “Hall of Dance,” “Imprisonment” and “Moonrise” – the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Paul’s most challenging and emotionally complex yet. As he explains: “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song.  Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”

PJ HARVEY: Let England Shake (Vagrant) – “Is Harvey still the single most uncompromising, restless presence in modern rock?” asked THE NEW YORKER. If Let England Shake was any indication, the answer was a resounding yes. Recorded in a 19th century church in Dorset with longtime collaborator Flood–who co-produced with PJ Harvey, John Parish and Mick Harvey and also mixed the record–Let England Shake addressed the state of the world through a uniquely personal lens, resulting in a remarkable album unlike any other in the PJ Harvey canon–or anything else for that matter. Let England Shake recently took the prestigious 2011 Mercury Prize–the first time any artist has won the Mercury Prize twice in his or her career–and is destined for similar honors atop the Best of 2011 of any discerning musical aficionado.

RADIOHEAD: The King Of Limbs (tbd) – Any year when Radiohead does anything at all is a good year here at nasty–and for the world in general–so 2011 is bound to go down as one of the best: the February surprise self-release of The King Of Limbs, followed by its March physical release, the “Lotus Flower” video, the newspaper album, the two historic shows at the Roseland here in New York City, new songs “Staircase” and “The Daily Mail debuted respectively on this year’s Saturday Night Live season premiere and a one-hour special edition of The Colbert Report, the surprise Late Night with Jimmy Fallon appearance… it’s the little things. Except that these weren’t little things at all. From the “open your mouth wide” exhortation at the start of album opener “Bloom” (which would miraculously metamorphosize into one of Radiohead’s fiercest live grooves ever) to the sublime closing of “Separator” and its “wake me up” refrains, The King Of Limbs was everything we wanted and needed in a Radiohead album: challenging, divisive, revelatory in a live setting and out this year!

* And lest we forget, TKOL RMX 1234567, the accompanying double album compiling the Radiohead-commissioned remixes of The King Of Limbs material, was also released this year.

SEASICK STEVE: You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks (Third Man Records) – We knew this album was going to be incredible when Seasick Steve provided one of jaw-droppingest highlights of this year’s South By Southwest. Playing without a band and wielding a bare bones arsenal of the trusty and well-worn guitar known as the three-string trance wonder and the wooden stomp box christened the Mississippi Drum Machine, Seasick Steve slayed the  SXSW crowd with tracks from the then-unreleased You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks. In the months since, You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks, which features contributions from nasty little man’s beloved John Paul Jones, has gone gold in the UK–where Steve played this year’s Reading, Leeds and Isle of Wight festivals and sat in with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones for an encore at one of the Foo Fighters’ two sold out shows at the 65,000 capacity Milton Keynes Bowl.

The Hot Sauce Committee Part Two Deluxe Version video content also includes all versions of both the time traveling epic FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED–described by TIME as featuring “more stars than a Judd Apatow flick”–and the Spike Jonze directed thriller DON’T PLAY NO GAME THAT I CANT WIN–which moved ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY to exclaim “G.I. Joe can suck it–the Beasties make way better action figures in this hilarious Spike Jonze-helmed epic (A+)”

And there’s STILL MORE: All of the above comes packaged in a breathtaking hardcover 130+ page book containing exclusive behind the scenes photos of the making of FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED.

Finally, a very limited number for Hot Sauce Committee Part Two Deluxe Versions will be available for pre-sale via Beastieboys.com starting November 7 – in a special package deal including an official Beastie Boys Stuyvesant Phys. Ed T-Shirt as rocked by Adrock back in the day and his various alter egos in FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED.

If somehow you’ve slept on the record THE NEW YORK TIMES was kind enough to call “the Beasties’ most tolerable album in years,” now is the time to put things right…

DANGER MOUSE-PRODUCED DEBUT ALBUM OUT SPRING 2012 ON DOWNTOWN

“This new L.A. electro-soul-pop group mightily impressed me… a great vocal range, seamlessly switching from clear falsetto to soulful baritone…pretty much irresistible.”–NYLON

Having taken NYC by storm over the course of multiple appearances at last month’s CMJ Music Marathon, Los Angeles’ own Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton–collectively known as Electric Guest–have finally made available two tracks from the duo’s forthcoming first album: Yesterday’s KCRW Today’s Top Tune “Troubleman”(http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/tu/tu111101electric_guest_troub)and “American Daydream” (currently being previewed at RCRDLBL: http://bit.ly/ue4wIh) are both on sale now via iTunes.

The subtly and gradually building atmospheric epic “Troubleman” and the sharp hooky chorus-driven “American Daydream” showcase two shades of the potent and diverse sonic spectrum of Electric Guest’s Danger Mouse-produced debut, due out spring 2012 from Downtown Records. The few tracks to seep out this year and the handful of live performances that have followed continue to hint at the potential and scope of this remarkable talent and record.

Speaking of, Electric Guest has just confirmed two more west coast dates: a November 8 date at the Soda Bar in San Diego, and a November 10 appearance at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco for that week’s Popscene night. Don’t miss the “electric kick” that NYLON lauded in Electric Guest’s live performance.
