Available for Pre-Order Now at Beck.com & the Capitol Records Online Store
Beck invites you to celebrate the eve of his birthday with the gift of a physical release of two acclaimed performances previously available only as digital singles. Available for pre-order now at Beck.com and the Capitol Records Online Store, and in the singles bin at your favorite indie shop tomorrow, July 7, “Thinking About You”/”Old Man” (Capitol) will be issued as a limited edition golden-brown vinyl 7” single in a picture sleeve sporting the artwork for each song.
Originally released February of this year, “Thinking About You” was the first new original Beck song to be released since his GRAMMY-winning Hyperspace album. A sublime ballad in the tradition of classics Morning Phase and Sea Change—and incidentally recorded in the very same room as the latter—“Thinking About You” features Beck’s wistful vocal and acoustic guitar tones accompanied by Blake Mills (guitar, mandolin), Justin Meldal Johnsen (bass) and Roger Manning (keyboards). “Thinking About You” has been lauded by Consequence as “heart-wrenching” and SPIN as “beautifully sad,” while American Songwriter raved “The song is stripped bare to reveal Beck’s roots as the mellow, moody songsmith that made listeners fall in love with him in the 1990s.”
Beck’s cover of Neil Young’s “Old Man” was originally released as a digital single in September 2022. Described by Paste as “a faithful cover of an untouchable track… impressive” and accompanied by a moving performance video rendered in stark black and white, Beck’s version of “Old Man” went on to be nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

PAUL McCARTNEY THE LYRICS: 1956 to the Present OUT IN PAPERBACK NOVEMBER 7th
On November 7, 2023, a one-volume edition of THE LYRICS: 1956 to the Present will be published in paperback, featuring additional commentaries on iconic songs spanning Paul McCartney’s unparalleled musical career
The #1 New York Times bestselling book to be released in paperback with seven new song commentaries from our greatest living songwriter, including:
Bluebird
Day Tripper
English Tea
Every Night
Hello Goodbye
Magical Mystery Tour
Step Inside Love
When THE LYRICS published in 2021 to worldwide acclaim, it was heralded as a one-of-a-kind self-portrait of McCartney, earning Book of the Year by Barnes & Noble and Waterstones, and winning a British Book Award. Critics revelled in “how deeply he is steeped in literary history and how much his output as a songwriter has in common with the works of the likes of Dickens and Shakespeare” (New York Times Book Review).
Finally in paperback, it further celebrates the breadth of that creative life and musical genius, covering sixty-six years through 161 songs—from early days in Liverpool, the global pop cultural domination of The Beatles, the ‘70s radio gold of Wings, and Paul’s prolific and still peaking solo career. A veritable road map to the way artists write and think about music, THE LYRICS “is like standing in a master chef’s kitchen as he prepares a dish, adding a dash of this and a spoonful of that and talking to us so winningly” (Washington Post).
Arranged alphabetically to provide a kaleidoscopic rather than chronological account, THE LYRICS establishes definitive texts of these songs for the first time and describes the circumstances in which they were written, the people and places that inspired them, and what Paul thinks of them now. Presented with this is a treasure trove of material from McCartney’s personal archive – drafts, letters, photographs – never seen before the 2021 publication, making this also a unique visual record of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
The seven new song commentaries elaborate more on these themes, whether mulling over the romantic yearning in Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” (Bluebird), the playful double entendres meant to trip up BBC censors (Day Tripper), the call and response power of a song (Every Night), the challenge and pleasure of writing for other performers (Step Inside Love), and the unlikely experience of serenading astronauts (English Tea). These first-person accounts give special context to lyrics beloved by generations of fans, and show how McCartney (and his contemporaries) were influenced as much by the musical Gigi as Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline, the carnival atmosphere of Blackpool as the polyrhythms of a Lagos recording studio.
With a personal foreword by McCartney and edited and introduced by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, THE LYRICS is the definitive literary chronicle of one of musical history’s most enduring treasures.
Born in Liverpool in 1942, Paul McCartney was raised in the city and educated at the Liverpool Institute. In June 2023 he published a collection of his photography, 1964: Eyes of the Storm, in conjunction with an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Since writing his first song at 14, McCartney has dreamed and dared to be different. He lives in England.
Paul Muldoon is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of fourteen full-length collections of poetry, including the recent collection Howdie-Skelp.
“More often than I can count, I’ve been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right. The one thing I’ve always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I’ve learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life” – Paul McCartney, The Lyrics
“Based on conversations I had with Paul McCartney over a five year period, these commentaries are as close to an autobiography as we may ever come. His insights into his own artistic process confirm a notion at which we had but guessed — that Paul McCartney is a major literary figure who draws upon, and extends, the long tradition of poetry in English” – Paul Muldoon
A selection of publicity-cleared images are available upon request

With just over a week to go until blur take the stage for two unmissable shows at Wembley Stadium, the band today dropped “St. Charles Square”, the latest track to be released from their highly-anticipated brand new album The Ballad of Darren, out July 21st on Parlophone / Warner.
“I fucked up, I’m not the first to do it.” – St. Charles Square
The opening line of “St. Charles Square” is already firmly established as a crowd favorite, with audiences enthusiastically roaring along with Damon Albarn as the band blaze their new songs across Europe this summer. The song’s chorus recalls the discordant art-pop swagger of earlier work and sees Albarn queasily exclaim “cause there’s something down here, and it’s living under the floorboards” encircled by backing vocals that compound the sense of encroaching peril and a quintessentially marauding guitar turn from Graham Coxon.
Damon Albarn said of the track – “St. Charles Square is a place where the ghosts of monsters can be found.”
Eight years since their chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), blur made a surprise return 6 weeks ago with the release of “The Narcissist”, racking up over 10m global streams – and counting – with a song which The Guardian (4/5 stars) describes as sounding like “…Blur have never been away”. Blur were most definitely back the moment Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree burst onto the stage for an electric live return at their first warm-up and first-ever show at Colchester Arts Centre in Essex on May 19th. With further shows in Eastbourne, Wolverhampton and Newcastle and now on the road in Europe, blur will have already performed their iconic and much-loved songs – along with new tracks “The Narcissist’”and “St. Charles Square” – to more than 2 million ecstatic fans across Europe by the time they take stage for their first-ever Wembley Stadium shows in London in just over a week.
The band will welcome old friend and special guest Phil Daniels for a very special guest appearance on both nights at Wembley Stadium, with Sleaford Mods joining the line-up for the sold-out Saturday July 8th along with critically acclaimed English singer-songwriter and Mercury Prize nominee Self Esteem and London-based electro-pop duo Jockstrap. Sunday July 9th will see Paul Weller and The Selecter open for blur, with DJs Steve Davis and John Doran & Kavus Torabi also set to entertain the crowds at what promises to be two unmissable summer nights in the capital.
The band’s headline show on Saturday July 8th at Wembley Stadium sold out in minutes, with a second and final show added for Sunday July 9th. Last remaining tickets available via Ticketmaster.

Produced by James Ford and recorded at Studio 13, London and Devon, The Ballad of Darren is the band’s ninth studio album, their first since the chart-topping The Magic Whip in 2015, with artwork featuring an image by British photographer Martin Parr.
The Ballad of Darren track listing is: The Ballad, St Charles Square, Barbaric, Russian Strings, The Everglades (For Leonard), The Narcissist, Goodbye Albert, Far Away Island, Avalon and The Heights
The Ballad of Darren will be available as a Digital Download & Stream (10 tracks as above); Standard CD (10 tracks) and Deluxe CD (12 tracks, w. expanded packaging), Standard Vinyl LP – 12” heavyweight black vinyl; and – exclusive to blur.co.uk – Deluxe Vinyl pressed on 12″ clear vinyl with black swirls, in a gatefold sleeve, with poster, bonus 7” vinyl, album CD (12 tracks) and integrated booklet, including exclusive handwritten notes, sketches and lyrics; and Cassette (10 tracks).
Since announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, blur went on to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with six successive UK #1 albums Parklife (1994), The Great Escape (1995), Blur (1997), 13 (1999), Think Tank (2003) and The Magic Whip (2015) and a string of Top 10 singles, including two No 1s with “Country House” and “Beetlebum”, helping to propel the band to mass popularity at home and abroad. One of the biggest British bands of the last three decades, blur have released eight studio albums and collected ten NME Awards, six Q Awards, five BRIT Awards and an Ivor Novello Award, and played live to thousands of devoted fans across the globe. The band’s new studio album titled The Ballad of Darren will be released on July 21st 2023.
*Colchester is the hometown of blur bandmembers Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree, with Damon and Graham first meeting as teenagers at Stanway School. Graham later introduced Dave to both Damon and bassist Alex James. The band’s debut album Leisure was released in 1991.
Summer Odyssey Co-Headline Tour Begins August 1st at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena
“Somewhere We’ll fall into the ocean I’ll be there On an odyssey in the sun…”
Modern music’s consummate chameleon Beck and Versailles’ foremost musical ambassadors Phoenix have teamed up to create an utterly infectious summer anthem in “Odyssey,” a landmark collaboration out today via Capitol Records.
Three minutes and 47 seconds of sheer audio bliss, “Odyssey” is written, produced and performed by Beck and Phoenix, and mixed by Serban Ghenea. Beck and Thomas Mars nimbly trade lead vocals on the song’s verses, with the full cast joining to create the irresistible earworms of its choruses and each “Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah” singalong refrain. The result is two unmistakable sonic signatures combining to create something beyond the sum of its parts.
“Odyssey” is the spontaneous and perfect theme song for Beck and Phoenix’s eagerly anticipated co-headline Summer Odyssey tour. Produced by Live Nation, the 19-city run kicks off on Tuesday, August 1st in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena, with stops including the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and both artists’ headlining return to New York’s Madison Square Garden, before wrapping up September 10th in Columbia, MD at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The tour will feature an array of support artists described by Beck and Mars as a “class of ’23” lineup, featuring Japanese Breakfast, Jenny Lewis, and Weyes Blood on select dates with Sir Chloe.

“Such Great Heights” Certified as Platinum Digital Single
“The Postal Service was a band for a generation – the soundtrack to romance, tears and friendship.” – NPR
“The idea that music — big, larger than life music — can start in a bedroom and grow into a force that can move a field of 80,000 devout music fans made me want to weep for joy… the world will be singing along with the Postal Service for the summer.”–LOS ANGELES TIMES
“Everyone at Barclays Center shared something intimate and close to the heart. We collectively let each other in on a little secret we’ve kept hidden in car stereos, mixtapes, and iPods for the last ten years. To be able to do that with 18,000 people simultaneously is something altogether astounding.”–CONSEQUENCE
“This was a collective walk down a lane of scattered and respective memories, and a collective teenage dream come-to-life, watching Jenny Lewis and Ben Gibbard — two arbiters of deeply emotional music from the early-to-mid-aughts — perform together on such an enormous stage.” –STEREOGUM
Before embarking on their long awaited tour celebrating the 20th anniversary tour of their timeless Give Up, The Postal Service reflect on the album’s rapturously received 10th anniversary tour via Everything Will Change–a 16-track live set documenting that 2013 trek with live versions of Postal Service classics including the platinum-certified single “Such Great Heights,” “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight,” “Sleeping In,” “Natural Anthem,” and more, all performed live at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. Everything Will Change will be available on 2xLP + CD on September 8th, 2023, through Sub Pop.
The physical release of Everything Will Change will coincide with the kickoff of the first live Postal Service dates in a decade. Hailed as one of the ‘Most Anticipated Tours of 2023,’ The Postal Service will join forces with Death Cab for Cutie who are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their seminal album, Transatlanticism. The six-week tour is playing stages across North America, including two nights at Madison Square Garden and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl. For complete details and ticket information, please visit postalservicemusic.net or www.deathcabforcutie.com.
Everything Will Change was also released in 2014 as a feature-length documentary concert film directed by Justin Mitchell, featuring intimate interviews and backstage footage of the band. The Everything Will Change film and Give Up are available through Sub Pop.Born of a long-distance collaboration between Benjamin Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborello (from Dntel), with Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, The Postal Service released Give Up, their one and only album, in 2003. That record went on to sell over a million copies, becoming a milestone for generations of fans, many of whom never had the chance to see the band live. In 2013 in commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of Give Up, Sub Pop released an expanded, deluxe version of that album, and the band reunited to tour the world.

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF TOMORROW WITH FIRST EVER SHOW IN MEXICO CITY
The Smile – Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner – today release a brand new single, “Bending Hectic”. Listen HERE
Produced by Sam Petts-Davies and with strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra, the standalone single was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London earlier this year. It was first debuted by The Smile during their Montreux Jazz Festival appearance in 2022 and, while not included on the subsequent live album The Smile (Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, July 2022), it became a word-of-mouth phenomenon, with fans and critics calling for its release. After a year of waiting, “Bending Hectic” gets a global digital release today via XL Recordings.
The single marks The Smile’s first piece of new music in 2023. It follows the band’s acclaimed 2022 debut album, A Light For Attracting Attention which was named amongst the Best Albums of 2022 by Pitchfork, Uncut, MOJO, Rough Trade, Billboard, New York Times, Consequence and many more.
Tomorrow, the band embark on an extensive tour of North America. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner will kick off the 16-date excursion on Wednesday June 21st with their first-ever performance in Mexico City. After two nights, they will then go on to the United States and Canada, marking The Smile’s debut live performances in every city they play — with the exception of New York where they’ll return to headline Forest Hills Stadium on July 7th. For more information or to buy tickets, head to www.thesmiletheband.com. Following the tour, the band will return to the studio to continue working on new material.

“Direct and hard-rocking…Homme’s songwriting has grown increasingly personal and vulnerable. Never more so than now.” –REVOLVER
Queens of the Stone Age continue “Giving fans something to look forward to” (UPROXX) with the final advance offering from In Times New Roman… ahead of its highly anticipated eighth album out this Friday, June 16th on Matador Records. This pre-release gift comes in the form of “Paper Machete,” an instantly identifiable QOTSA future classic, sure to resound with casual fans and die hards alike. Lyrically, “Paper Machete” finds Josh Homme’s trademark rapier wit at its most acerbic. If the previously released “Carnavoyeur” signaled resignation and acceptance, “Paper Machete” is the collision of sheer, raw force that gets you there– “like electricity conveyed through the bristles of a paintbrush” (WALL STREET JOURNAL).
“Thematically, ‘Carnavoyeur’ seems to reckon with life’s natural ebbs and flows, finding power in accepting the things that can’t be changed: ‘When there’s nothing I can do, I smile,’ vocalist Josh Homme sings in a darkly sweet croon, sounding equal parts sinister and restrained as he watches the world around him turn to dust,” says CONSEQUENCE, an apt description of the song as much as it is for the just-released Liam Lynch-created/directed video.

“Rescued” from Preparing Music For Concerts Video Live Now
Foo Fighters’ brand new 11th album, But Here We Are, unanimously hailed as one of the band’s strongest to date, has become its 10th album to break the Top 10 of the US Album Chart. But Here We Are also marks Foo Fighters’ sixth UK #1, ninth Australian #1, #1 spots in Switzerland and New Zealand, and Top 5 debuts in nearly a dozen more territories.
Released June 2 on Roswell Records/RCA Records, But Here We Are has landed at #8 in its first week on the Billboard 200, while entering at #1 on the Alternative and Hard Rock album sales charts. The new album’s Top 10 debut continues a trend that began with the back to back Top 10 positions achieved by The Colour and the Shape (1997) and There is Nothing Left to Lose (1999), and has since included the #1 charting Wasting Light (2011) and Concrete and Gold (2017), as well as the Top 3 placings of One by One (2002), In Your Honor (2005), Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007), Sonic Highways (2014) and Medicine at Midnight (2021).
Produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, But Here We Are has received the warmest of welcomes—from the capacity crowds singing along to every word of “Rescued” and “Under You” during the band’s current tour, to a still growing torrent of acclaim for the album and its songs including:
“A moving collection that balances raw emotion with the band’s signature determination to see the light through the darkness” —Billboard
“Explosive, emotional and inspired… Grohl’s melodies are as soaring and anthemic as they’ve sounded in years” —The New York Times
“A truly formidable rock record… so catchy and vibrant, so brimming with wild-eyed wonder. It’s heavy in every sense of the word, but make no mistake: It’ll still get stuck in your head for days… ‘Rescued’ and ‘Under You’ open But Here We Are with singles that seem to have emerged directly from an alternate-universe greatest hits package—they’re hard-driving career highlights that sound both timeless and utterly of the present” —NPR Music
“Dave Grohl gives himself over to arena-sized grief, reckoning, and resolve on the band’s most propulsive and purposeful music of the last two decades… offering earnest hope, find reminiscence, and skyscraping choruses… the most inspired Foo Fighters record in recent memory” —Pitchfork
“I’ll join my fellow critics in praising it as their best work since the late ‘90s… it deserves the accolades” —Uproxx
“Aching directness and wounded sweetness make a potent combination here” —Vulture

“Jenny Lewis Keeps Finding the Magic” – THE NEW YORK TIMES
“A kaleidoscopic pivot of the grandest proportions…Joy’All is Lewis’ brightest, grooviest and coolest album yet.” – PASTE
“…is just as much about relationships and self-discovery as it is taking pleasure in the beauty of the mundane.” – HARPER’S BAZAAR
“…her new album is a reminder that she’s the queen of one-liners.” – ELLE
Having already been heralded as one of the most anticipated albums of the summer by the likes of Elle, New York Magazine and Pitchfork, Jenny Lewis’ fifth solo album, Joy’All is out today on Blue Note/Capitol Records and available via your local record store or preferred streaming service now. Follow your joy’all and listen here: https://jennylewis.lnk.to/JoyAllPR
Produced by Dave Cobb and recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, Joy’All is the blissed out followup to 2019’s On The Line that “grapples with aging, life cycles and romantic (im)possibility and yet somehow feels vivacious” (THE NEW YORK TIMES). Leading up to the album’s release, fans were given an early taste via “Puppy and a Truck”–the summer-ready anthem that was first unveiled in front of sold out arenas across the country as Jenny toured as a special guest of Harry Styles–and the subsequent “Psychos” “Giddy Up” and the “sultry and biting” (FLOOD) “Cherry Baby.” Accompanying Joy’All’s release is one final offering in the form of the title track, which you can hear now.
And in case you missed it, Jenny will be making her grand return to the Austin City Limits stage on July 26th for their upcoming Season 49, marking her third appearance on the celebrated series. The Season 49 episodes will air on PBS this fall;for information on tickets and how to get free passes, keep an eye on http://acltv.com/upcoming-tapings/ and follow ACL on Facebook and Twitter.
