Ryan Adams’ Prisoner was released February 17, debuting #3 on the U.S. album chart, #1 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart, and generating wave after wave of the most effusive critical praise of Adams’ career. NEW YORK MAGAZINE (“Genius…the best thing he’s put out in a decade”), ROLLING STONE (“Personal and urgent…close to the magnum opus of his dreams”), ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (“the poet laureate of unadulterated heartbreak, a master chronicler of the endless shapes and colors of romantic pain”) and the ASSOCIATED PRESS hailed Prisoner as the multiple Grammy nominee’s best in 10 years or more, while PEOPLE noted “even when his lyrics cling to loss, Adams lets in light with melody,” and The AV CLUB observed “He sounds like he’s savoring how full of life his music is, no matter what it took to make it so. He hasn’t just turned misery into art; he’s turned it into joy.”

Ryan Adams is currently in the midst of the Prisoner world tour, which swings through New York next week, beginning with a May 1 stop at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert followed by back to back sold out shows at the Beacon Theater May 2 and 3. The tour circles the globe through late September and sees Ryan headlining the likes of the Greek Theaters in Los Angeles and Berkeley, Red Rocks, an already sold out September date at the Royal Albert Hall and more. Ryan has also been making the festival rounds including Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees, while adding multiple headline shows due to popular demand from St. Paul MN to Dublin.

RYAN ADAMS WANTS TO HOLD YOU…

RYAN ADAMS WANTS  TO HOLD YOU…
… PRISONER
ALBUM RELEASE WEEK ASSAULT ON YOUR HEART:
PRISONER UP ON NPR FIRST LISTEN NOW
ALL SONGS CONSIDERED VALENTINES DAY GUEST DJ SET
Weeklong St. Valentines Massacre To Include Apollo Theater Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Intimate In-Store Appearance

Just as the songs on his anxiously awaited new album Prisoner (out this Friday, February 17 on PAX AM/Blue Note) gave him no choice but to be their vessel, Ryan Adams will not be deterred from making you his Valentine this week.

Having just appeared on Monday’s episode of WTF with Marc Maron, Ryan’s full frontal assault on your heart will escalate with a Valentines Day twofer: Ryan will be your very own Valentines Day guest DJ on NPR’s ALL SONGS CONSIDERED, the same day that NPR FIRST LISTEN will preview in full the album that NEW YORK Magazine hailed as “the best thing he’s put out in a decade,”  ROLLING STONE called “close to the magnum opus of his dreams” and STEREOGUM just cautioned “you might find yourself unable to stop listening to.”

Thursday, February 16 Ryan will return to the Apollo Theater. His first appearance at the iconic Harlem venue in nearly 10 years, Ryan and his Band’s show sold out instantly, but don’t be heartbroken: Ryan will be there on your TV screen the very next night, asking if you still love him February 17 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

And if you’re not busy Saturday, February 18 and somehow managed to score a ticket to possibly the most intimate engagement he has played in the NYC area since people have cared, Ryan Adams will be playing a sold out electric set and recently announced 6pm acoustic set at Rough Trade Records in Brooklyn (Acoustic show sales begin February 17 with Prisoner purchases at the store; 1 wristband per album, 2 wristbands maximum–names will be on wristbands).

Ryan will then re-direct his affections to the west coast for two more in-store appearances–February 20 at Fingerprints in Long Beach, CA  (sold out) and February 22 at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles (admission requires album purchase in store at Hollywood Amoeba Music starting February 17-before appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden on February 23.

Directed and produced by Noah Abrams, and edited by Brook Linder, “Do You Still Love Me?” gives viewers intimate behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creation and recording of the song. The video features dramatic live footage from Ryan’s 2016 tour—including airy shots of the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheater—punctuated by fly-on-the-wall scenes of Ryan in the studio, like a mad scientist at work. Watch HERE.

With a cluster of tour dates supporting Prisoner already revealed for March, Ryan Adams has tacked on three additional stops around the album’s release: a special pre-release show at New York’s esteemed Apollo Theater on February 16th, an in-store performance at Amoeba Hollywood on February 22nd and an appearance at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Music Festival, May 12-14.

Following not one but TWO smashing surprise pop up shows in the UK, at Soup Kitchen in Manchester and Treadwells Bookshop in London, Ryan confirms an Amoeba Hollywood in-store performance for February 22nd. Fans will need to physically purchase Prisoner at Amoeba Hollywood starting Friday, February 17th in order to attend. Those who do will receive an admission ticket to the in-store AND a commemorative limited edition “Ryan Adams Live at Amoeba” poster. Ryan Adams has released “To Be Without You,” the second track to be made available from his eagerly awaited new album Prisoner out February 17 via Pax-Am/Blue Note and available for pre-order at http://ryanadams.lnk.to/Prisoner.

Today at instagram.com/misterryanadams, Adams unveiled a peek at the one of a kind 7-inch of “To Be Without You” recorded directly to vinyl in Electric Lady’s Voice-O-Graph booth. As with the version of album opener “Do You Still Love Me?” previewed on Ryan’s Instagram earlier this week, an acoustic version of each of Prisoner’s 12 tracks will be recorded direct-to-vinyl in the vintage booth, one of only four known models in existence. The 12 singles well then be distributed at random into copies of the forthcoming Prisoner Mystery Box. Further details of the Mystery Box and its contents will be revealed as they are finalized. Lil BUB EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH RYAN HERE

unnamed

In an exclusive interview with the world’s foremost feline talk show host Lil BUB, pinball, comic book, black metal and hardcore enthusiast and multiple-Grammy-nominee-and-zero-winner Ryan Adams confirmed details of his first album of all new original material since 2014’s Ryan Adams.

During the intimate and revealing interview – which can be seen here – Adams divulged that the album, titled Prisoner, will be released February 17 on Pax-Am/Blue Note, and previewed and discussed snippets (or “sniplets”) of new tracks including first single “Do You Still Love Me?” which is available today for purchase and as an instant grat with all pre-orders.

“I was reflecting on the different states of desire and what it means to be a prisoner of your own desire,” Adams told BUB of the new record’s title, later adding, “I felt like I had been robbed of… the most valuable thing in a person’s life… Time.”

The twelve tracks that make up Prisoner came to Adams over a prolific period stretching back as far as the week his 2014 self-titled album entered the U.S. album chart at a career high of #4. During that run, Adams toured the world, recorded and released both his Live at Carnegie Hall collection and full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, and saw the aforementioned Ryan Adams garner two Grammy nominations – Best Rock Song for “Gimme Something Good” and Best Rock Album – while “Gimme Something Good” became the first vinyl single to go #1 at the Amazon music store.

And somehow during this two-year-plus whirlwind, Adams contends Prisoner virtually wrote itself. As he told Lil BUB, “Whatever was going on in me was strong enough that I only had to sit down and this stuff just made itself known.”

Ryan Adams’ Prisoner track listing is below. The album will be available February 17, 2017 in formats including: standard digital, HD digital, 180G vinyl, CD, limited edition red vinyl at indie record stores, and a limited edition exclusive cover at Barnes and Noble. “Do You Still Love Me?” can be streamed here.

“A startling 15-song masterpiece, ‘Heartbreaker’ is…an album of astonishing musical proficiency, complete honesty and severe beauty.” —PITCHFORK

“…an exquisite collection of charred and tattered songs about a doomed relationship and its bitter aftermath…”—UNCUT

Heartbreaker, the debut solo album by Ryan Adams, hailed as a modern classic on its release in September 2000, will be re-released by Paxam Records and distributed by Caroline Records and Universal Music on  May 6th on 180gm 4LP/DVD and 2CD/DVD Deluxe Editions along with digital release of the 35 audio tracks.   Remastered from the original tapes, the album will come in a deluxe box set that features the 15 song album plus demos and unreleased outtakes from this landmark record by one of rock music’s most prolific and charismatic stars.  The package will also include a DVD featuring never before released footage of a complete solo acoustic show at the Mercury Lounge in New York City in October 2000 (including  Adams’ first ever live performance of his now-legendary cover of Oasis’s “Wonderwall”),  and a glossy booklet of rare and unseen photos with liner notes written by producer, friend and collaborator Ethan Johns.

Watch the teaser video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9ksbbLk_sI&feature=youtu.be

Heartbreaker was recorded over fourteen days at Woodland Studios in Nashville.  The band featured Ryan Adams on guitars, vocals, piano and harmonica, Ethan Johns on bass and drums, bluegrass stalwarts Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch on guitars and backing vocals, and Pat Sansone on keyboards.  The album also included guest vocals by Emmylou Harris, Kim Richey and Alison Pierce.

Ryan Adams was born in 1974 in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  At an early age he started writing short stories and poems before receiving his first guitar at the age of 14.  Shortly afterwards he joined a local band named Blank Label and released a record while Adams was  just 16.  Adams went on to perform with local bands Ass and The Lazy Stars before joining punk band The Patty Duke Syndrome, who released one single during a brief career.  In 1994 Adams formed Whiskeytown who went on to release three seminal albums ‘Faithless Street’, ‘Strangers Almanac’ and ‘Pneumonia’ that went some way to defining the burgeoning alt-country scene in the US and announced Adams as a truly gifted singer-songwriter.  Despite critical raves and a growing fanbase, the band split up in 2000.  Adams went solo and has since released 15 studio albums: ‘Heartbreaker’ (2000), ‘Gold’ (’01), ‘Demolition’ (‘02), ‘Rock n Roll’ (’03), ‘Love Is Hell’ (’04), ‘Cold Roses’ (’05), ‘Jacksonville City Nights’ (’05), ‘29’ (’05), ‘Easy Tiger’ (’07), ‘Cardinology’ (’08), ‘Orion’ (’10), ‘III/IV’ (’10), ‘Ashes & Fire’ (’11), ‘Ryan Adams’ (’14) and ‘1989’ (’15).

RYAN ADAMS CONFIRMED AS FIRST EVER MUSIC GUEST ON THE DAILY SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH OCTOBER 1

In the wake of Ryan Adams’ full album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989 rising to #2 on the iTunes chart, it has been confirmed that Ryan will be the first ever musical guest on Trevor Noah’s premiere week hosting The Daily Show. Ryan will be the sole guest on the October 1 broadcast, as announced today by Comedy Central.

Popular and critical reaction to Ryan’s take on 1989 has been equally over the top since its digital release September 21 on PAX-AM/Blue Note, with early raves multiplying by the hour, including:

“What you can’t question about this 1989 is the effort and care that Adams put into conceiving these covers… this is not 1989 unplugged. It is 1989 reimagined, with often startling results… you’ll stop wondering why Ryan Adams felt the need to redo 1989. You’ll just be glad he did.”—AMERICAN SONGWRITER

“Ryan Adams transforms Taylor Swift’s 1989 into a melancholy masterpiece… decidedly free of irony or shtick, and, perhaps more important for a covers album, transforms the source material…  In a sense, Adams has created the soundtrack to a fictional ’80s teen movie.”—AV CLUB

“There’s nothing ironic or tossed off about Adams’ interpretations. By stripping all 13 tracks of their pony-stomp synths and high-gloss studio sheen, he reveals the bones of what are essentially timeless, genre-less songs… If turning the biggest, shiniest pop record of the past year into a survey course in classic rock economy sounds like a novelty, it is. But it’s also the best kind—one that brings two divergent artists together in smart, unexpected ways, and somehow manages to reveal the best of both of them.”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“What elevates Adams’s 1989 beyond a mere meme and to an actually great record is how fully he inhabits Swift’s eminently durable songs. His 1989 fits thematically with his best work.”—GRANTLAND

“Adams has done Swift a major favor, by showing her core fans that, beneath all the pop, there’s a sturdy country heart beating in her music.”—WALL STREET JOURNAL
