EXPERIENCE PAUL McCARTNEY LIVE IN CONCERT LIKE NEVER BEFORE

JAUNT VR APP MAKES VIRTUAL REALITY CONTENT AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC FOR THE FIRST TIME

Completely immersive VR footage of Paul McCartney’s Historic Candlestick Park concert ready for download now

Earlier this year Paul McCartney made history when he performed the last concert at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park, the very same stadium that saw The Beatles last public concert 48 years ago, almost to the day.

A new app launched today by Jaunt allows fans to relive the magic of that night—more accurately experience it for the first time in a completely immersive 360-degree virtual environment offering access to Paul McCartney like never before: the Jaunt VR app puts you right there in the crowd, onstage, backstage, or even right by Paul’s side in the midst of the climactic pyro, as he performs “Live and Let Die” live at Candlestick.

In addition to his obviously peerless status as a musical legend and fearless innovator, Paul McCartney has never stopped looking for new and interesting ways to reach audiences, from his work on this year’s single biggest entertainment release, the video game “Destiny,” to this collaboration with Jaunt enabling fans to experience his music and live performance in a previously unimaginable new way.

Jaunt, the technology company behind the app, is building the hardware and software to make truly immersive cinematic VR possible. This special footage of the world’s revered musician marks the launch of their first publicly available content. Jaunt is making this revolutionary experience freely available for consumers to download and view for the first time. The content is available now through Jaunt’s app on Google Play for Google Cardboard and Android Phones, and will be coming soon to Samsung’s Gear VR and the Oculus Rift.

Paul’s performance of “Live and Let Die” was filmed using state of the art technology – Jaunt’s proprietary 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D cameras and 3D sound-field microphones. Viewers will experience a completely new level of immersion: complete freedom to look in any direction and experience every moment of the performance in true stereoscopic 3D with reactive, omnidirectional audio.

“The concert at Candlestick put Sir Paul McCartney in front of 70,000 live fans, and with our technology and the launch of our app, we’re opening up this access to many more,” said Jens Christensen, CEO of Jaunt. “We’re creating a completely new medium for entertainment. This is just the first step of our broader mission to bring viewers immersive access to the latest concerts, movies, sporting events and more through virtual reality.”

“Live and Let Die” is the first of these recordings to be released by Jaunt, and it also marks the very first public release of content in Jaunt’s cinematic VR library.

Jaunt, which emerged from stealth in early 2014, delivers a completely new way to present and experience media. The Jaunt platform makes use of advanced algorithms and computational photography software to enable the creation of seamless, omnidirectional 3D experiences. The company will continue to focus its efforts on enabling top content producers to create a diverse array of cinematic VR experiences that will be available for consumers to view and download across many platforms.

In another upcoming McCartney first is the aforementioned release of “Hope,” a track Paul wrote and recorded exclusively for the end credits of video game “Destiny,” the first time Paul has ever composed for a video game.

Consumers can now download Jaunt’s cinematic VR recording of Paul’s “Live and Let Die” for Google Play. To download, visit: http://www.jauntvr.com/content

In the UK it charted at Number Two, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Sales to date exceed 3.5 million worldwide.

PAUL McCARTNEY CHATS WITH U.S. POET LAUREATE BILLY COLLINS AT ROLLINS COLLEGE

Paul McCartney with Billy Collins
Paul McCartney with Billy Collins

“Doing this for the students was such a special buzz for me. I hope it was for them too.” — Paul McCartney

At the behest of two-term U.S. poet laureate and senior distinguished fellow at the Winter Park Institute Billy Collins, Paul McCartney spoke Thursday night to a few hundred students at Knowles Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.

Kept secret until the morning of the event, McCartney’s visit prompted so much interest that students had to win tickets in a lottery system.

“I’d say, ‘It’s getting better all the time,’ and he’d say, ‘It can’t get much worse,” McCartney told the students of his creative chemistry with John Lennon. “I would have never thought of that.”

When asked whether lyrics or music come first, he replied, “I tell students all the time, ‘Look, I don’t know how to do this.’ Every time I approach a song, there’s no rules. Sometimes the music comes first, sometimes the words – and if you’re lucky, it all comes together.”

McCartney described how his inspiration for “Yesterday” came in a dream. Certain an old melody was stuck in his head, he went around humming the tune, asking if anyone knew it. “After two weeks,” he said, “I claimed it.”

Collins brought up how McCartney’s songs have been covered by countless bands, prompting Paul’s gratitude. “If someone on the street corner is reading one of your poems,” he asked Collins, “is it going to bother you?”

Asked about the Beatles’ musical evolution in the late 1960s, McCartney drew applause and laughter recalling “a natural growing up we developed – and drugs.”

“At the beginning of the Beatles,” he said, “you’ve got to remember, we were a boy band… It was all really fan-oriented. It’s not a bad thing, but after a while you felt like you wanted to move on.”

McCartney and Collins found common ground at the intersection of lyrics and poetry. Sharing how he once read his own poems to a group of scholars in New York City, McCartney admitted “it was pretty nerve-wracking” and quite different than playing to record-breaking concert crowds. “I had to respect the silence as a great thing,” he said.

McCartney closed the night with a performance of “Blackbird.”

“This was a wonderful event provided through the generosity of Sir Paul McCartney,” said Rollins Acting President Craig M. McAllaster. “He wanted it to be intimate and mostly for students. That’s why they filled most of the seats. It’s a wonderful thing to have someone of his stature and significance give us his time and talent to Rollins College.”

SOMETHING NEW FROM PAUL McCARTNEY’S INTERNATIONAL HIT ALBUM NEW

NEW to be released as special 2CD & DVD Collector’s Edition in a hard bound book featuring bonus content including behind the scenes footage, music videos, live recordings, album documentary and previously unreleased tracks

Available October 28

NEW

“The music of eternal youth… energized and full of joyous rock & roll invention”—ROLLING STONE

NEW is as apt an album title as you’ll find: Not only does it announce McCartney’s first batch of original songs in six years, it also celebrates the idea that pop music can still invigorate, inspire, and surprise — even if you had a hand in inventing it.”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Released in October 2013, NEW was greeted with rave reviews all around the world. In both the UK and US it entered the album charts at Number Three. Within months it had sold almost a quarter of a million copies in America alone and counting. NEW also went Top 10 in 17 different countries including a Number One position in the Japanese charts. Since its release it has achieved Silver sales status in territories including UK and France, Gold status in Japan and Platinum in Russia, to name just a few international sales achievements.

This special collector’s edition is packed full with exclusive content that tells the story of the making of the album as well as capturing unique moments during the international promotion campaign which saw Paul make global headlines by creating traffic stopping moments in the US and UK with pop up performances in New York and London.

Channeling the spirit of adventure that has forever characterized McCartney’s approach to making music, NEW was born out of his collaboration with a bunch of young British producers whose records he rated. Paul Epworth, who had enormous, Oscar-winning success writing with Adele on her album 21 and on their James Bond theme Skyfall. There was Mark Ronson, the DJ/musician who had helped the late Amy Winehouse create the classic Back To Black. And there were Ethan Johns, the son of Beatles engineer Glyn and himself a renowned producer, and Giles Martin, son of Sir George and a previous collaborator with The Beatles on the Las Vegas theatrical production Love.

The original idea for the then-untitled project was that Paul would work on a few songs with each, see who he felt most comfortable with and inspired by, and proceed with that producer. But such was the flood of ideas, and so strong were the songs pouring from Paul’s fingertips, that he decided to take the best of all worlds: he’d work with all four producers. The result was one of the most ambitious and acclaimed efforts of Paul’s solo career—an album hailed by Rolling Stone as “the music of eternal youth… energized and full of joyous rock & roll invention” as its title track, “Queenie Eye”, “Save Us” and “Everybody Out There” quickly became staples of the McCartney live set.

This story is perfectly told in Paul’s own words as well as those of the producers in “Something New”, a documentary about NEW directed by Don Letts, which features on the DVD.

The release of NEW saw Paul and his band perform a variety of intimate concerts along with some surprise huge events for good measure. This special edition relives some of the highlights including the opening of the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, a Hollywood Boulevard performance, pop up shows in New York and London, an intimate album Q&A filmed at The Shard in London, two concerts in one day at BBC’s iconic Maida Vale Studios, chat show performances and footage of Paul bringing London’s Oxford Street to a standstill at a signing session at HMV’s flagship store.

CD 1 tracklisting is the same as the original 14 track deluxe edition released last year. CD 2 includes two previously unreleased tracks (“Hell To Pay” and “Demons Dance”) taken from the album recording sessions as well featuring “Struggle” which was previously released as a Japanese bonus track. The second CD also includes live versions of “Save Us”, “New”, “Queenie Eye” and “Everybody Out There” recorded at the Tokyo Dome, Japan in November of last year.

Along with the documentary and a collection of behind the scenes footage from Paul’s international promotional trail, the DVD also include all the music videos for “Queenie Eye”, “Save Us”, “Appreciate” and “Early Days”, with ‘Making Of’ material for “Queenie Eye”, “Appreciate” and “Early Days”.

PAUL McCARTNEY’S ORIGINAL TRACK, “HOPE”, CONFIRMED FOR RELEASE

He has written countless hit singles, orchestral scores, released electronica albums, film theme songs and changed the world with his music. Listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Most Successful Composer and Recording Artist of All Time, Paul McCartney has now added another first to his impressive list. No stranger to being involved with hotly anticipated releases, Paul has now entered a new genre all together.

This week saw the release of the most highly anticipated video game of the year – Destiny. Years in the making, Destiny is the biggest entertainment property of 2014. Earlier this week, fans were queuing through the night to get their first glimpse. Stores across the world opened early in order to meet the demand. Made by Bungie, the studio behind Halo, and published by Activision, the company that brought you Call of DutyDestiny is expected to change the gaming industry. The hype surrounding this release demonstrates how the entertainment industry is overtaking Hollywood.

The continuing success of this market and the scale of Destiny is further underlined by the fact Paul McCartney has written the game’s end title theme song “Hope”, as well as working on the soundtrack. Throughout his career, Paul has always looked at ways to reach new audiences with his music and has never been afraid to try out new ideas or platforms. This is the first time that Paul has ever written for a computer game and he has likely started yet another trend for the world of popular music. Paul teased fans with a tweet in 2012 confirming that he was working on a project with Bungie but this week, following the game’s release, the wait was over for fans when “Hope” started to appear on the Internet.

Produced by Giles Martin, “Hope” is as epic as the game itself. Following the positive response and reaction to the track, it is confirmed today that the track will get an official release later in the year with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

PAUL McCARTNEY UNVEILS NEVER BEFORE RELEASED BEATLES PHOTOS

FAREWELL TO CANDLESTICK: THE FINAL CONCERT MEETS THE BEATLES’ 1966 FINAL SHOW

Paul McCartney took the crowd of 50,000 at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park on a magical mystery tour back through time at tonight’s historic Farewell To Candlestick: The Final Concert:

During a rarely performed rendition of Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally” — the last song to be performed in its entirety at The Beatles’ August 29, 1966 final concert at the same venue — the crowd was transported back to that very same night courtesy of a collection of previously unreleased photographs by the late Jim Marshall.

The only photographer to be granted unfettered access to photograph The Beatles’ last ever concert, Marshall’s images were granted this exclusive usage by Paul for his bittersweet goodbye to this iconic ballpark. The images will next be viewable by the general public with the October 14 release of a new book on Marshall’s work The Haight: Love, Rock and Revolution (Insight Editions). The Haight… is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Jim Marshall is world-renowned as the pioneer of rock-and-roll photography. A principal photographer at Woodstock, and the only photographer allowed backstage at The Beatles’ last concert, he immortalized artists such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane before they became household names. His tools of the trade were a manual Leica camera and unlimited access to the artists. This allowed Marshall to capture some of the most iconic images in music history, and In 2014 Marshall became the first photographer ever to receive the GRAMMY Trustees Award for his body of work. Marshall passed away in 2010, and gave his iconic and inspired archive to his long-time assistant and friend Amelia Davis, who keeps Marshall’s legacy alive and thriving.

Farewell To Candlestick: The Final Concert is the latest sold out stop on Paul McCartney’s current Out There tour. As always, the marathon Out There sets feature music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; the very soundtrack of so many of our lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even a live broadcast into Space. The tour resumes September 28 at Petco Park in San Diego.

PAUL McCARTNEY RETURN TO SAN DIEGO ADDED TO OUT THERE TOUR

SEPTEMBER 28 – PETCO PARK

Paul McCartney © MJ Kim
Paul McCartney © MJ Kim

SAN DIEGO — Paul McCartney has added another date to summer”s hottest ticket: the Out There world tour has confirmed a September 28 stop at Petco Park in San Diego – marking Paul’s first concert in the city since the Wings Over America tour passed through in 1976.

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list will also include material from Paul”s most recent studio album NEW, a global hit upon its release last year.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow”s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul”s band of the last 10 years – Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) – the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul”s shows attract a multi-generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

PAUL McCARTNEY: EARLY DAYS – THE VIDEO

Paul McCartney
Early Days  – The Video

Early Days
Early Days

The idea was inspired by the chance meeting in 1957 that would change Paul, John, George, and Ringo’s lives forever,” explains L.A. director Vincent Haycock.

The proposal Vincent wrote for “Early Days” simply begins, “This film is a poetic homage to the legendary beginnings of Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s relationship.”

Expanding on his idea Vincent says, “Their story at its core is a universal one, two young kids who bond over their passion for music and form a band and friendship. This video is about them, and every band, and every kid who has suffered the ups and downs of starting a band, whether or not they became successful. The universality of their story was a big inspiration of setting the film in Mississippi during the 50s. This is a time period that inspired The Beatles – American Rock and Roll and the Mississippi Delta Blues of the 50s. Early Days is about the spirit and inspiration young musicians find in each other.”

Vincent has a CV that includes an Emmy nomination in 2004 for designing and directing the main title sequence for the TV show Nip/Tuck. Since then he’s gone on to work on music videos for artists such as Florence + The Machine, Cheryl Cole and Spiritualized. He has established a unique freeform docudrama-style music promo and in 2012 he won a MTV VMA for Best EDM video for the track “Feel So Close” by British DJ/producer Calvin Harris.

Talking about how he came to be working with Paul he recalls, “I sent over a written treatment and then spoke with Paul about it and it developed from there. Paul generously shared some old stories with me that inspired many of the scenes in the video.

Shot between L.A., Natchez, Mississippi and Faraday, Louisiana, Vincent spent almost a month in total working on the video. The casting involved an extensive process and it was important to Vincent that all the characters be as authentic as possible. His team took to street casting in the locations, utilizing local churches, schools and record stores to find people with genuine emotional connections to the music and history of the areas they were shooting in.

Paul recorded his parts in L.A. over two days and the story unfolds around an intimate performance with just him and an acoustic guitar. By the end of the video Paul is playing with a group of blues guitarists, including his friend Johnny Depp. Johnny, no stranger to a McCartney video and an accomplished guitar player too, stopped by on the day for a jam.

Vincent describes his experience of working with Paul as “such a pleasure”. “Paul’s scene was incredibly fun to create. It was just him, some blues players and Johnny Depp jamming on set all day. Patti Smith also turned up on set and hung out, which made the crew very happy! One of my favorite days of filming ever.”

“Early Days” is taken from Paul’s 16th solo album NEW, which was released to critical acclaim in October 2013. In the UK it entered the Official Album Charts at Number Three and in the US Billboard charts it also charted at Number Three. Within months it had sold almost quarter-of-a-million copies in America alone and counting. NEW also went Top 10 in 17 different countries including a Number One position in the Japanese charts. Since its release it has achieved Silver sales status in territories including UK and France, Gold status in Japan and Platinum in Russia, to name just a few international sales achievements.

Paul is currently touring the US on his Out There tour which opened in South America earlier this year.
