PAUL McCARTNEY: SECOND CHICAGO AND MONTREAL DATES ADDED BY POPULAR DEMAND

Due to overwhelming popular demand, Paul McCartney’s On The Run tour has added second shows in Montreal and Chicago . The newly announced dates are July 27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and August 1 at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.

Tickets for the additional shows are on sale now: Chicago tickets can be purchased at Tickets.com and via 1-800-THE-CUBS, while Montreal tickets are available at the Bell Centre Box Office, by phone at (514) 790-2525 or 1 877 668-8269, or online www.evenko.ca

The new shows bring Paul McCartney’s On The Run tour to a tally of eight North American dates, kicking off July 15 and 16 with McCartney’s first ever shows at Yankee Stadium in New York City, and proceeding through July 24 at Comerica Park in Detroit, July 26 and 27 at Montreal’s Bell Centre, July 31 and August 1 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and August 4 at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Each and every one of this summer’s On The Run dates can safely be predicted to feature nearly three hours of the world’s most familiar and beloved music, with hits, deep cuts and surprises spanning McCartney’s unrivaled catalogue of Beatles, Wings, solo and Fireman classics.

McCartney’s recently completed Up and Coming Tour played over three dozen shows to more than 1,000,000 fans from its March 2010 start through its June 10, 2011 conclusion at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, drawing arguably the most enthusiastic audiences and critical noticecs of McCartney’s peerless near-50-year career, including:

“Some things are ageless, and McCartney’s one of them — he still radiates youthfulness like a packed playground. At a sold-out MGM Grand Garden… He was a study in nonchalance, ambling about the huge arena stage as if he was performing in his living room in front of a small group of friends.”–LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

“A Paul McCartney concert makes up for every bad show you’ve ever seen in your life. Seriously… The strange thing about seeing a Paul McCartney concert is, after three hours, you actually feel lighter, your feet hurt less – buoyed on by Paul’s constant smiles and some of the greatest music ever”–AMERICAN SONGWRITER

“Of the 15,000-plus who attended this show, most, I’m assuming, will put it down as one of their favorite shows ever. It was one of those shows – certainly the year’s best, certainly among the best ever at the Sprint Center and probably among anyone’s shows of a lifetime. Expectations were high coming in; he exceeded them.”–KANSAS CITY STAR

“It’s hard to think of much in the pop music world more impressive than a 67-year-old musician  holding forth for nearly three hours, outdoors on a chilly March night, while delivering some three dozen songs, the least of which would be a career highlight for almost any other artist.”–THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

“McCartney is more like Superman. Watching him perform 40 vocally demanding songs over nearly three hours Saturday night… one could only wonder: How does he do it?”–MIAMI HERALD

“If a reanimated Abraham Lincoln came to town to redeliver the Gettysburg Address (in its entirety) in the flesh, it wouldn’t have trumped this show… From musicality to sheer spectacle to momentous, life-affirming jubilation, Paul McCartney’s Nashville debut at Bridgestone Arena Monday night was an all-out master class in rock ‘n’ roll showmanship… The band was flawless. The arrangements were elegant. The pacing was perfect. The production was dazzling, but never distracting. And most importantly, Sir Paul’s charisma and infectious good nature humanized him, making us feel like we’d made a new friend, while also getting the privilege of an evening in the titanic presence of a true rock god. A master.”–NASHVILLE SCENE

“You hear about all these things, but until you actually sit just a few yards away and witness McCartney in action for close to three hours, it’s impossible to understand how they all conspire to make Sir Paul such an absolute whirlwind… What was really amazing was taking in the full scope of songs that have come out of this man… It was hard to believe that pop music was ever so good, that life was so good.”–SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE

As on his Live 2009 tour and Up and Coming’s 2010 run and every Paul McCartney tour since 2002, Paul will be backed by the combo the LAS VEGAS SUN called “his best band since, well, the Beatles”: Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica, backing vocals), Rusty Anderson (guitar, backing vocals), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums, backing vocals) and Brian Ray (guitar, bass, backing vocals).

In addition to overwhelming levels of critical acclaim wherever McCartney has recently played across North America, South America and the UK, last year saw many career firsts for Paul. These included rocking The White House in front of President Barack Obama and his family in June when Paul was made the first ever British recipient of the prestigious Gershwin Prize For Popular Song.  Paul returned to the White House in December (where even the President joked about Paul becoming a regular there) to be awarded with a Kennedy Center Honor. Paul ended 2010 with a December 11 visit to Saturday Night Live in New York City followed by a career landmark first ever performance at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater on December 13 and three intimate homecoming shows in the UK.  He played the smallest club show of his career at London’s legendary 100 Club to just 300 people, which made headlines as far as China.  The final two shows were at the Hammersmith Apollo and at Liverpool’s O2 Academy, both of which broke venue box office records.

McCartney kicked off his 2011 live agenda last month with his  first ever show in Peru, his first Chilean gig since 1993, and two blockbuster shows at Rio de Janeiro’s Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange, which also resulted in the first ever concert to be broadcast live on the internet throughout Latin America–allowing over 1.5 million fans who were unable to snap up one of the 100,000 tickets to share in the magic.

PAUL MCCARTNEY’S UP AND COMING TOUR

First U.S Show of 2011 Confirmed

June 10 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas

Having played some three dozen shows to over 1,000,000 fans over the course of 2010, Paul McCartney’s record-smashing Up and Coming Tour will make its first U.S. stop of 2011 on Friday, June 10 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

The announcement of Macca’s return to Las Vegas comes nearly two years to the day from the now-legendary April 19, 2009 performance that christened The New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and was received with unanimous rapture by media both local (“the concert of a lifetime”–LAS VEGAS CITYLIFE; “Hair-raising. Spine-tingling. Maybe I’m amazed”–LAS VEGAS SUN) and national (“Macca signatures… still have the power to raise gooseflesh”–USA TODAY; “The energy at The Joint was like being at Bruce and U2 combined… The night was truly spectacular and took this fan on an emotional journey”–HITS).

McCartney’s triumphant return to Vegas June 10 at the MGM Grand can safely be predicted to feature some nearly three hours of the world’s best loved and most known music, with hits, deep cuts and surprises spanning his unrivalled career, from The Beatles, Wings, solo material and The Fireman’s critically acclaimed album Electric Arguments.

As on his Live 2009 tour and Up and Coming’s 2010 run, McCartney will be backed by the combo the LAS VEGAS SUN called “his best band since, well, the Beatles”: Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica, backing vocals), Rusty Anderson (guitar, backing vocals), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums, backing vocals) and Brian Ray (guitar, bass, backing vocals).

In 2010 Paul performed over 30 Up and Coming Tour dates across North America, South America and the UK. In addition to overwhelming levels of critical acclaim wherever the band played, last year saw many career firsts for Paul. These included rocking The White House in front of President Barack Obama and his family in June when Paul was made the first ever British recipient of the prestigious Gershwin Prize For Popular Song.  Paul returned to the White House again in December (where even the President joked about Paul becoming a regular there!) to be awarded with a Kennedy Center Honor.

The final two shows were at the Hammersmith Apollo and at Liverpool’s O2 Academy.  Both shows broke venue box office records.

PAUL MCCARTNEY WINS SOLO ROCK VOCAL PERFORMANCE GRAMMY

Paul McCartney added yet another accolade to his unparalleled list of achievements, as he was awarded with the statue for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards last night.

The Grammy went to the live version of  “Helter Skelter” from the Good Evening New York City (Hear Music/Concord), the gold-certified document of McCartney’s legendary 2009 three-night stand at Citi Field.

PAUL McCARTNEY NOMINATED FOR BEST SOLO ROCK PERFORMANCE GRAMMY

APPEARING ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE DECEMBER 11

APOLLO THEATER CONCERT TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON SIRIUS XM DECEMBER 13

RECEIVING KENNEDY CENTER HONOR DECEMBER 5

Paul McCartney continues to wind down yet another banner year in the most distinguished career in modern music with yet another in his cavalcade of Grammy nominations: The live version of “Helter Skelter” from last year’s gold-certified Good Evening New York City (Hear Music/Concord Music Group) will be up for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.

Paul’s schedule will be anything but idle leading up to the February 13, 2011 Grammy ceremony. Having just wrapped the sold out Up & Coming 2010 tour with two shows for over 130,000 fans at Sao Paolo’s Morumbi Stadium, Macca heads to the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington DC this weekend to receive a Kennedy Center Honor on Sunday, December 5. Kennedy Center Honors, now in their 33rd year, are awarded to five special recipients annually for their lifetime contribution to American culture through the performing arts.  Honorees are received by the President of the United States and the First Lady at a reception at the White House, then proceed to the Opera House for a Gala featuring surprise performances and tributes.  The Kennedy Center Honors medallions are  presented on Saturday 4th December, the night before the gala, at a State Department dinner hosted by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

The following week, Paul and his ace band of Paul “Wix” Wickens, Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray and Abe Laboriel Jr. will appear on Saturday Night Live, marking the first time in some 17 years that Paul has graced the famed music stage of 30 Rockefeller’s Studio 8H.

Barely 48 hours later, Macca will play Harlem’s world famous Apollo Theater for the first time. The intimate show will celebrate Sirius XM’s reaching the 20 million subscriber mark and launching a month-long “Paul McCartney’s Band on the Run Radio” channel. The concert, which will be held on Monday, December 13 at 8:00 pm ET, will feature McCartney performing songs from his unrivalled back catalog, including many Beatles, Wings and solo classics. The concert will air nationwide live on six channels including “Paul McCartney’s Band on the Run Radio,” Howard 101, one of Howard Stern’s two exclusive SIRIUS XM channels, Underground Garage, Classic Vinyl, The Coffee House and ‘70s on 7.

The last leg of Up & Coming, the SNL appearance, the Apollo show and the Sirius XM channel’s launch all coincide with the recent re-issue of Paul McCartney & Wings’ number one album from 1973, Band on the Run, the first title to be released as part of an extensive overhaul of McCartney’s complete catalog of solo recordings. The month-long “Band on the Run Radio” channel will also feature a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this landmark album, hosted by McCartney himself, as well as newly-discovered live performances of Wings tracks recorded at Abbey Road Studios from The Paul McCartney Archive.
