NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS NEW VIDEO “HIGGS BOSON BLUES”

NICK CAVE FEATURE DOCUMENTARY – 20,000 DAYS ON EARTH – WORLD PREMIERE AT 2014 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS SUMMER 2014 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR ON SALE

© Andrew Whitton

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have unveiled their video for “Higgs Boson Blues.” Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard and featuring the band performing the epic song live in its entirety, the video was revealed exclusively through Rolling Stone yesterday. Shot in East London, Nick and the Bad Seeds curate their legendary mystery and passion, creating a captivating auditory and visual experience of one of many highlights from their universally acclaimed album Push the Sky Away. Watch it here.

Upcoming feature documentary, 20,000 Days on Earth, is set to have its World Premiere next month at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film, directed by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, portrays a fictionalized 24 hours in the life of Nick Cave and is inspired by a calculation Nick had made in his songwriting notebook working out his time on Earth. Forsyth and Pollard have taken this and from it crafted an innovative and powerful film that takes us inside Nick’s artistic process and celebrates creativity.

Following a wildly captivating – and completely sold out – North American tour in early 2013, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds return to North America in the summer of 2014 to take care of some unfinished business.

Throughout this jaunt, the band will be bringing their fervent live show to familiar cities as well as municipalities that have yet to be graced (or confronted) with a Bad Seeds live experience. A full itinerary can be found below.

On November 14, Nick Cave partnered with the Association of Alternative Newspapers (AAN) for a special invitation-only web press conference. General on-sale will commence on November 22 at 10am.

This tour announcement precedes the release of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Live from KCRW (Bad Seed Ltd). NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS “MERMAIDS” LIVE AT THE FONDA THEATER

VIDEO PREMIERE LIVE NOW AT ROLLINGSTONE.COM

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have partnered with Rollingstone.com to premiere a new video of a stunning and uncensored rendition of “Mermaids,” captured live in dramatic black and white by directors Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard  on February 21 at Los Angeles’ Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater. Augmented by a children’s choir from the local Silverlake Conservatory of Music as well as a full string section, this once in a lifetime version of “Mermaids” was recorded during one of a series of very special events staged around the release of the Bad Seeds’ widely acclaimed 15th studio album, Push the Sky Away (Bad Seed Ltd.). The original February 21 performance was webcast globally by Lovelive in partnership with Rockfeedback and YouTube and was viewed by more than 100,000 people.

In addition to Push The Sky Away having marked Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ highest ever U.S. chart debut, entering the BIllboard 200 at #29, the record hit #1 in six countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Holland, New Zealand, Portugal), top 3 in seven more (UK, Germany, Greece, Norway,

Finland, Poland, Ireland), and top 20 in Canada. This was followed by a rapturously received standing room only theater and festival tour of North America that recently wrapped with last month’s Bad

Seeds/Grinderman doubleheaders at the two-weekend Coachella festival in Indio, CA. The tour was the most extensive North American outing for the Bad Seeds in several years, and has generated possibly the best critical and audience response of the band’s storied career, including:

“In his black suit, jet-black hair and white shirt, he was a dapper gentleman preacher who raved as if the Old Testament were also a scandal sheet, rife with betrayal, temptation, blood and lust… he was, as promised, transforming, vibrating, glowing, flying.” — CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Right up there amongst the best frontmen of this or any generation. No one on the circuit can both command and terrify a crowd quite like Nick Cave.” –DALLAS OBSERVER

“Thanks, Nick Cave, for ruining pretty much every other show we’re going to see for the rest of the month. Or year. Or ever. There’s no way anybody is going to top what we saw on Saturday night… it was a mind-blowing evening of rock ‘n’ roll.” — NASHVILLE SCENE

“Towering over everyone else, however, were… the Bad Seeds, whose merciless performance, delivered with the fury of hellhounds unleashed, easily stole Sunday from any up-and-comers…” — OC REGISTER

“Fans were out of their seats from first note to last, either in rapture or because the shock-friendly performer gave ¹em the willies and they were too afraid to sit down.” — WASHINGTON POST

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will resume the Push The Sky Away tour May 25 at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. The current itinerary takes Nick and Warren Ellis (Violin, Mandolin & Samples), Martyn Casey (Bass), Conway Savage (Piano, Organ), Jim Sclavunos (Drums & Percussion), Barry Adamson (Drums, Keys, & Percussion) and Ed Kuepper (Guitar) through the May-August festival season. The tour will resume October 26 with a three-night stand at the Hammersmith Apollo in London and will hit theaters and arenas throughout the UK and Europe until concluding November 29 in Bologna.

Further touring details and other information will be released as it is confirmed.

Critics worldwide have hailed the record as an instant classic. Below are excerpts from recent album reviews:

“Push the Sky Away may be broken into nine pieces, but the whole is paced like one magnificent 43-minute Nick Cave song: tense and mysterious at first, then increasingly full-blooded and lovely” – NPR

“…predictably unpredictable in “Push The Sky Away” … an unshakeable feeling and a belief that rock ‘n’ roll gets you right down to your soul” – LOS ANGELES TIMES

“His excellent new album is full of cinematic detail and gorgeously dark sonic dread”- ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, THE MUST LIST

“Push the Sky Away” is yet another gem in a long string of fiercely literate offerings from the poet laureate of post-punk.” – ASSOCIATED PRESS

“Push the Sky Away presents an uncharacteristically weightless, eerily atmospheric sound; we have foggy reveries built upon ominously rumbling bass lines, twitchy rhythmic tics, and hushed-voice intimations…” – PITCHFORK

“the fundamental power of his music has been surprisingly steady for decades now. And so Push The Sky Away is merely one more very good album in a long, long string of them.” – STEREOGUM – ALBUM OF THE WEEK

“Saint Nick has again given us vigorous spiritual sanctuary. We should thusly appreciate every note, every word, as if we were the hungry flock and it were the thousand loaves.”– FILTER [USA]

“Push the Sky Away” merges the erotic and the ominous in a cocoon of electronic loops, sparse keyboards, murmured voices, and post-3 a.m. narratives.” – CHICAGO TRIBUNE [USA]

“Guitars don’t riff; they quiver…the perfect setting for Cave’s unnerving narratives of sexual impulse and existential pondering, all witha  pinch of pitch-black humor. From choirboys to convicts everyone can find a dark piece of themselves in Push The Sky Away.” – RELIX

“Push the Sky Away grabs you and pulls you down into this subterranean journey like only a Bad Seed could do.” PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE

“Push the Sky Away is another exemplary effort from the Bad Seeds, and the moodiest entry into the Nick Cave canon in over a decade ” UNDER THE RADAR

“a gospel-like quietude infuses Push The Sky Away but there’s an emotional intensity at play as well that will leave you flattened. This, ultimately, makes the emotional devastation you experience once the record has spun all the more remarkable. I’m not embarrassed to say that on multiple occasions, Push The Sky Away has left me choking back tears” BLURT

“As always, just beyond Cave’s solemnity, there’s wicked and lovely fun to be had.” SPIN

“this album is a masterwork of spooky and hypnotic minimalism.” ASBURY PARK PRESS

“as engaging as ever” CREATIVE LOAFING

“Push the Sky Away” might just be the most beautiful album ever from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. That doesn’t mean it’s a cheery pop adventure. Rather it’s dark, slow, tense, hushed and thoroughly enveloping. “ LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR

“Nick Cave’s funereal blues is the sound of mirth’s heart stopping. There’s a romanticism inherent in Cave’s repertoire, though, a seductiveness. Even the brightest of days give way to the darkest of nights, and it’s the latter that Cave’s music soundtracks.” – LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL

With half a dozen shows and counting already sold out–including New York’s Barclays Center Arena where a second date has been added by popular demand–The Postal Service has announced nearly 20 more additional headline engagements to the tour commemorating the April 9 release of its Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition) on Sub Pop.

The newly announced additions to The Postal Service’s first headline tour in decade include stops at more of North America’s premiere arenas, amphitheaters and more, including Red Rocks in Morrison CO, Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD, the Greek Theater in Berkeley CA, and many more.

In addition to the already sold out return to New York June 14 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, all tickets for The Postal Service’s UK headline dates are now gone: May 19 and 20 at London’s Brixton Academy are both sold out immediately, while May 18 at Manchester’s Academy 2 has been bumped up to the larger Academy and sold out again. The band’s shows at the Mondavi Center in Davis CA on April 10 and the Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo CA on April 12,  also sold out within minutes, and April 19 at Las Vegas’ Chelsea Ballroom at the Cosmopolitan is now sold out as well.

Pre-sale tickets for the new dates will be available directly from The Postal Service at http://bit.ly/PstlSrvc beginning Wednesday, February 20 at 10am local venue time for all–except for June 11 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto (pre-sale starts February 25), Columbia MD (pre-sale starts March 6) and Vancouver (pre-sale starts April 3). By purchasing tickets through this pre-sale fans will gain early access to tickets and save money on ticketing fees.

The Postal Service 10th anniversary tour will reunite Postal Service principals Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello with Jenny Lewis (Jenny & Johnny, Rilo Kiley), who appeared on the original album and played with the band on its 2003 dates. Lewis also sings on the two new songs on Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition). Laura Burhenn (Mynabirds, Bright Eyes) rounds out the 2013 touring lineup.

The Postal Service and Sub Pop Records’ pre-order for Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition) is live now, with configurations including a limited 3-LP edition on red, clear and white vinyl available through subpop.com and postalservicemusic.net. All pre-orders will immediately receive a download of the previously unreleased single “A Tattered Line of String.”

Give Up was certified platinum last year just shy of 10 years from its original February 9, 2003 release. Led by the single “Such Great Heights,” the landmark album is, after Nirvana’s Bleach, the second-biggest selling album in Sub Pop’s nearly 25-year history.
