While Free follows the highest charting album of Iggy’s career, 2016’s GRAMMY-nominated Post Pop Depression, it has virtually nothing in common sonically with its predecessor—or with any other Iggy Pop album. As THE NEW YORK TIMES remarked upon hearing the title track:
“Iggy Pop’s ‘Free’ is brief, atmospheric and elusive. Amid sustained electronic tones from the guitarist Noveller and ghostly overdubbed Miles Davis-tinged trumpet lines from Leron Thomas, Pop’s voice appears only a few times, intoning, ‘I wanna be free.’ As the title song and opening track of an album due in September, it could lead anywhere.”
Full tracklisting for Free: 1. Free 2. Loves Missing 3. Sonali 4. James Bond 5. Dirty Sanchez 6. Glow In The Dark 7. Page 8. We Are The People 9. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night 10. The Dawn

Metallica, All Within My Hands & Feeding America Partnering with 50+ Food Banks on May 22nd
Last year’s first ever All Within My Hands Day of Service enlisted more than 1,000 volunteers to spend a day working at local food banks across the U.S..
And now the All Within My Hands Foundation announces its second annual Day of Service on Wednesday, May 22nd. Once again Metallica fans across the U.S. are invited to volunteer for a day at food banks in communities that have supported Metallica on its North American dates over the course of the WorldWired Tour.
In cooperation with Feeding America, Metallica and AWMH have been proud to make contributions to their local partners in those cities. Now, once again, they humbly ask their friends across the country to supporting the fight against hunger in their neighborhoods.
More than 50 food banks will be participating in this year’s activities–more than twice as many as last year—and each registered volunteer will receive a special All Within My Hands T-shirt commemorating our united Day of Service. Please note that space is limited and therefore registering in advance is mandatory. Unfortunately it will not be possible to accept walk-ins.
For a complete list of participating food banks and information on how to register to volunteer, go to metallica.com or allwithinmyhands.org.
Those who do not live near one of the participating food banks, or are otherwise unavailable on May 22nd, are encouraged to visit www.feedingamerica.org to see how they can contribute.
Metallica thanks everyone who continues to support the efforts of All Within My Hands and the local organizations the band and foundation have been honored to assist. A special thanks goes out to Metallica and AWMH’s friends at Salesforce for their help in making this Day of Service happen.
METALLICA & SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY
Present
S&M2: 20th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
SEPTEMBER 6TH GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION AT THE CHASE CENTER
In celebration of the historic grand opening of the Chase Center—the new 18,064-seat arena in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood—two preeminent musical forces of the Bay Area will join together for the first time in 20 years: On Friday, September 6, Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony will commemorate this most anticipated addition to San Francisco’s cultural landscape by christening the new Chase Center stage with a one-night-only show. The S&M2 concert will also mark the 20th anniversary of Metallica and the SF Symphony’s groundbreaking 1999 S&M (“Symphony & Metallica”) concerts—and its subsequent film and album releases.
Legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas completes the first week of his final season as San Francisco Symphony Music Director with a special appearance, conducting a portion of the show.
The announcement was made earlier today at Chase Center with a press conference with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, who joined Michael Tilson Thomas from San Francisco Symphony. Warriors Owner and CEO Joe Lacob and Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts joined San Francisco Mayor London Breed for today’s press conference event as well. For a video of today’s press conference, CLICK HERE.
“Bringing together Metallica and San Francisco Symphony 20 years later for our first event at Chase Center is going to be an incredible and unique performance for the Bay Area,” said Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts. “This announcement is one of many of the must-see acts we’ll have as we continue to add a variety and diversity of shows to Chase Center’s calendar.”
“This is beyond exciting on so many fronts,” said Metallica’s Lars Ulrich. “The fact that San Francisco is finally getting a much needed world-class arena, the fact that Metallica get to be part of the opening celebration, the fact that we get to revisit S&M 20 years later, and the fact that we get to share the stage not only with the San Francisco Symphony once again, but with the legend himself, MTT, as he kicks off his final year as music director here in San Francisco. This is mind-blowingly awesome… bring it on ASAP!!!”
“The San Francisco Symphony is delighted to be a part of the Chase Center’s opening week, and to perform once again with Metallica to recreate the magic of the historic S&M concerts,” said San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas. “I’m happy to join with my friends in Metallica to make this an extraordinary only-in-San Francisco music event.”
The original S&M concerts were performed by Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony conducted by the late Michael Kamen In spring of 1999 at the Berkeley Community Theatre. The S&M album, was released later that year, winning a Best Rock Instrumental Performance GRAMMY for its version of “The Call of Ktulu.” The S&M2 concert will feature the first live performances of these arrangements in 20 years, plus the first ever Metallica/San Francisco Symphony renditions of songs written and released since the original S&M, with new orchestral charts by Bruce Coughlin.

Metallica & Arrogant Consortia Present
Enter Night Pilsner
“A Hoppy Pilsner Played Through a Distortion Pedal”
ESCONDIDO, CA (January 14, 2019) – Metallica and Arrogant Consortia (a Stone Brewing imprint) have announced Enter Night Pilsner. Launching in the US now, and internationally this spring, Enter Night Pilsner is a unique expression of the shared values that have helped define Metallica and Stone Brewing: fiercely independent, transcending genres, shattering preconceptions and challenging convention.
Enter Night Pilsner is the outcome of a genuine creative spark between two entities that grew to become international forces of nature in their respective worlds, yet came from the fringes. An intensity of vision combined with a shared middle finger to the status quo makes Enter Night Pilsner a chorus of collaboration worth celebrating. The members of Metallica and the leadership of Stone participated at every step alongside their talented brewing team. From Metallica’s Bay Area HQ and the brewery HQ in San Diego, to many beers backstage at shows, the spirit of collaboration was powerful. Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Stone co-founder Greg Koch even enjoyed multiple occasions at Lars’ home ‘discussing’ (industry-speak for ‘drinking’) beers. After all, there was only one chance to get this right, and anything less than an incredible result was not an option.
“The amount of ideals and outlooks that Metallica and Stone Brewing share are endless,” says Lars. “I’m always blown away about how similar our paths forward have been. Our view of the worlds that we each inhabit, of creativity and process, and sense of place in relation to our peers and ‘The Man’ are almost identical. This collaboration is beyond effortless and pure, and we can’t wait to share this incredible beverage with everyone out there.”
“I remember seeing Metallica on the cover of a magazine just after the Black Album was released,” recalls Greg. “On the cover was a quote that resonated with me to this day: ‘Metallica didn’t go to number one, number one came to them.’ I loved what that meant. Do it your way and never compromise your art. If you’re great at what you do people will come. I view that simple quote as one of the founding philosophical elements of Stone Brewing.”
Aside from its intense drinkability, craft enthusiasts will note Enter Night’s remarkable flavor and aroma which artfully combine the beauty of a traditional Northern German Pilsner with Arrogant Consortia’s modern overtones of aggression. The resulting genre-defying pilsner is hop forward with sound bitterness on the finish. It first appeared for the most worthy few in exclusive releases at Metallica’s shows this past fall. The beer will gain full US distribution in the first quarter 2019, and its global domination will roll out this spring covering Europe, Australia, China and beyond.
Arrogant Consortia is a wholly owned imprint of Stone Brewing. Its often aggressive and always self-righteous lineup of beers includes Arrogant Bastard Ale and Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard Ale, among others. The world-renowned brewery is well-known for waving the proud flag of independent craft brewing, while rallying against the bland, boring nature of industrialized, commoditized ‘fizzy yellow beer.’ Enter Night Pilsner is brewed to be enjoyed fresh and is best enjoyed with your friends… be it in bars, backyards, or tailgates… with your favorite music.
Quick Facts:
Release Dates:
· September 2018 – Select states in the US
· November 2018 – California
· 1st Quarter 2019 – Nationwide roll out
· Spring 2018 – International
Arrogant Consortia and Metallica make the perfect collaboration: A fiercely independent band hooks up with a rebellious craft brewery. Both have been able to innovate and remain on the cutting edge while pushing boundaries of their respective genres. This is a bold Pilsner that has all the elegance of a traditional Pilsner, but as if it was played through a distortion pedal. It’s the perfect beer for… fuck that, it’s the perfect beer!
ALL WITHIN MY HANDS FOUNDATION & AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES
LAUNCH THE METALLICA SCHOLARS INITIATIVE
$1 MILLION IN GRANTS TO GO TO 10 COMMUNITY COLLEGES
Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation (AWMH) has launched a major workforce education initiative that provides direct support to community colleges to enhance their career and technical education programs. These programs provide skills and services to students who are looking to enter a traditional trade or other applied learning program. Ten colleges from across the country will receive $100,000 to support more than 1,000 students training to enter the American workforce. These students will become the first cohort of Metallica Scholars.
Partnering with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), a Washington, D.C. based organization that represents the nation’s 1,103 community colleges, the Metallica Scholars awards were selected via a competitive application process and are designed to provide support of relevant job skill training for community college students, reinvest in communities that supported Metallica during its recent United States tours, and leverage the influence of Metallica to elevate the importance of career and technical education.
“The All Within My Hands Foundation and Metallica are proud to announce this major new initiative,” said Dr. Edward Frank, executive director of AWMH. “While the foundation continues our support for the fight against hunger and emergency community aid, we are now expanding our mission to include support for career and technical education. The goal of our Metallica Scholars Initiative is to improve career opportunities for community college students in the trades. Equally, we hope to raise the awareness of the tremendous importance, value and impact of the education provided by our nation’s community college system. The foundation and the band are thrilled by the quality of proposals we received from these colleges, and are excited to do our part to help educate students so that they have the skills and training necessary to find meaningful and well-paying jobs in their communities.”
AWMH will work closely with AACC to implement and manage the program. “We welcome Metallica as a partner in the career and technical education work of the nation’s community colleges,” said Walter G. Bumphus, AACC’s president and CEO. “Colleges across the country provide pathways to well-paying jobs through programs, services and training that lead to in-demand skills, certificates and degrees for students. These programs are responsive to the needs of local businesses and provide a pipeline of qualified workers to local industry. It’s a win-win for our students and the local economy. For Metallica to see the benefit of these programs and invest in the communities that have supported them is a testament to the power of education and we are proud to do this work with them.”
In addressing why the foundation chose workforce education as part of its mission, Lars Ulrich, Metallica’s drummer and co-founder said, “All of us in the band feel fortunate that music has provided us the opportunity to be successful doing something we are passionate about. We want to share our success with others so that they can find a job where they can do the same.”
In keeping with AWMH’s philosophy of enabling Metallica to give back to communities that have supported the band, the recipient colleges are all AACC members and based in and around stops on Metallica’s 2017-2019 WorldWired Tour.
The 10 sites are:
Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, North Carolina
Clackamas Community College, Oregon City, Oregon
College of Lake County, Grayslake, Illinois
Community College of Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland
Gateway Technical College, Kenosha, Wisconsin
Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Rapids, Michigan
Lone Star College, The Woodlands, Texas
North Idaho College, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
Spokane Community College, Spokane, Washington
Wichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology, Wichita, Kansas
The AWMH Foundation was established in 2017 by Metallica as a means to invest in the people and places that have supported the band. It also provides a mechanism for Metallica’s fans to become engaged in philanthropy and volunteerism. The foundation is focused on supporting sustainable communities through workforce education (in addition to combatting hunger through an alliance with Feeding America), and is fully supported by the band, the AWMH board, and by fans. All expenses of the foundation are covered by the band, the board, and a few special friends, so that 100% of donations go to the organizations it supports. AWMH is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. www.allwithinmyhands.org
As the voice of the nation’s community colleges, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), delivers educational and economic opportunity for 12 million diverse students in search of the American Dream. Uniquely dedicated to access and success for all students, AACC’s nearly 1,100 member colleges provide an on-ramp to degree attainment, skilled careers and family-supporting wages. Located in Washington, D.C., AACC advocates for these not-for-profit, public-serving institutions to ensure they have the resources and support they need to deliver on the mission of increasing economic mobility for all.
