DAVID BOWIE is… VIRTUAL

DAVID BOWIE is… VIRTUAL

RECORD-BREAKING EXHIBITION COMES TO DIGITAL/INTERACTIVE LIFE

MOBILE APP TO BE RELEASED JANUARY 8, 2019

Groundbreaking Collaboration Between David Bowie Archive and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.

https://davidbowieisreal.com/

David Bowie is, the record-breaking exhibition that drew over 2 million visitors across 12 cities – the most visited touring exhibition in the history of the V&A – has been granted digital immortality. David Bowie is, curated by Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh, was the first exhibition of its kind and has set the standard for others to follow. The visual richness of this show and visionary nature of Bowie and his music made this a must for virtual reality.

Beginning on January 8, 2019 (which would have been Bowie’s 72nd birthday), the David Bowie isAugmented Reality mobile app will be available in iOS and Android —granting access to the show’s hundreds of costumes, videos, handwritten lyrics, original works of art and more to the tens of millions of Bowie fans unable to visit the exhibition before it shuttered permanently on July 15, 2018. This virtual reality adaption of David Bowie is will enable the visitor to spend as long as desired on individual items and jump to others.

The David Bowie is AR mobile app is the first release resulting from a collaboration between the David Bowie Archive and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., who hosted the exhibition in Tokyo in 2017. The New York-based studio Planeta is designing and developing the AR/VR interpretations of the original museum experience at the V&A. The AR adaptation, a first of its kind, mirrors the physical exhibition through a sequence of audio-visual spaces through which the works and artifacts of Bowie’s life can be explored. 3D renderings preserve and present his costumes and treasured objects such as musical scores, storyboards, handwritten lyrics, and even diary entries–all in 360-degree detail, enabling intimate “behind the glass” access rivaling that of the visitors to the original exhibit, and enhanced by an immersive audio experience featuring Bowie’s music and narration, best experienced with headphones.

Additionally, the David Bowie is mobile app will feature dozens of items not featured in the original exhibition – including some entirely new and exclusive to this AR version.

Like the David Bowie is touring exhibition, the AR and VR versions will be offered in seven different languages. The AR mobile app is the first phase of this innovative initiative, with the VR format scheduled for later release.

About David Bowie Is

The exhibition explores the broad range of Bowie’s collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theater, art, and film. On display are more than 60 stage costumes including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972) designed by Freddie Burretti, Kansai Yamamoto’s flamboyant creations for the Aladdin Sane tour (1973), and the Union Jack coat designed by Bowie and Alexander McQueen for the EART HL I NG album cover (1997). Also on show is photography by Brian Duffy, Terry O’Neill, and Masayoshi Sukita; album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell; cover proofs by Barnbrook for the album The Next Day (2013); visual excerpts from films and live performances including The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976); music videos such as Life on Mars? (1973), “Heroes” (1977), Boys Keep Swinging (1979), Ashes to Ashes (1980), Let’s Dance (1983) and Blackstar (2015); and set designs created for the Diamond Dogs tour (1974).  Alongside these are more personal items such as never-before-shown storyboards, handwritten setlists and lyrics as well as some of Bowie’s own sketches, musical scores, and diary entries, revealing the evolution of his creative ideas.

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE QUEEN: MERRIE LAND

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE QUEEN: MERRIE LAND

Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong Return with Second Album Out Today

UK Dates Begin November 26

“…this album is a masterpiece… the best album of the year.” – Sunday Times Culture

“…Up there with the most evocative attempts by British pop to interpret its locality” – Mojo

“The music they wrote suggests no end of ghosts: off-key pub pianos, bass recorders, an abundance of old-school organ that instantly evokes the British Seaside.” – The Guardian

Presaged by the recently released “Gun To The Head” and its title track (featured in The New York Times’ Playlist)—as well as the band’s first live appearance in seven years on Later…. With Jools Holland—Merrie Land, the sophomore album from The Good, The Bad & The Queen is finally released today, November 16, 2018.

Merrie Land follows an 11-year hiatus since The Good, The Bad & The Queen’s self-titled 2007 debut, and is self-released on the newly created label Studio 13. Produced by Tony Visconti and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, Merrie Land contains 10 new songs – written during the current period in which the UK is preparing to leave the European Union – creating a reluctant good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018.

Merrie Land’s focus moves beyond GBQ’s London-themed first album to a wider land, with a beautiful and hopeful paean to the Britain of today, an inclusive Britain, currently in an Anglo Saxostentialist crises at the end of a relationship, wondering what might be salvaged. Could there be a more perfect band – with their creative symbiosis of pasts and present and shared acclaimed music histories – to reflect on the anticipation, disorientation and confusion of current life?

In preparation for their shows in Blackpool, Glasgow and London the band will play three intimate warm-up shows in Tynemouth, at the Tynemouth CIU Club on November 26th and Cullercoats Crescent Club on November 27th & 28th – each with a rare capacity of less than 100.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen is Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong.

ABOUT The Good, The Bad & The Queen

The Good, The Bad & The Queen began life as the acclaimed 2007 album of the
same name, a heartfelt tribute to London described by The Observer in a 5-star
review as –“One of the most surprising and magical records for which Damon Albarn
has ever been responsible”. The record traced a journey from the English music hall
tradition to West Africa and Afrobeat, zigzagging through the West Indies and its
reggae and dub, back to England and London’s punk scene, all the while taking in a
strand of British beat music from the ’50s right through to Britpop. The result was a
record specific to a place and mood but with a background that was geographically
wide-ranging.

PAUL MCCARTNEY: Previously unreleased versions of John Lennon-inspired ‘DEAR FRIEND’ available now

Previously unreleased home recorded & remastered
versions of the John Lennon-inspired track

‘DEAR FRIEND’

Both available now as instant grats HERE
Taken from the forthcoming reissue of

Paul McCartney and Wings’ 1971 debut album ‘Wild Life’

Wild Life will be reissued alongside the 1973 album ‘Red Rose Speedway’ on December 7th

Both reissues are part of the ongoing Grammy-award winning Paul McCartney Collection

Today, to mark the forthcoming reissues of Paul McCartney’s 11th and 12th classic works from his revered catalogue, ‘Dear Friend’, the John Lennon-inspired closing track to Paul McCartney And Wings’ debut album ‘Wild Life’, has been made available to hear as two special instant grats. The first a remastered version, and the second a beautifully intimate unreleased home recording. The re-releases come fully remastered and expanded across multi format installments of his GRAMMY-winning Archive Collection, to be released December 7, 2018 via MPL/Capitol/UMe.

Speaking of the track, Paul comments “With ‘Dear Friend’, that’s sort of me talking to John after we’d had all the sort of disputes about The Beatles break up. I find it very emotional when I listen to it now. I have to sort of choke it back. I remember when I heard the song recently, listening to the roughs [remastering works-in-progress] in the car. And I thought, ‘Oh God’. That lyric: ‘Really truly, young and newly wed’. Listening to that was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s true!’ I’m trying to say to John, ‘Look, you know, it’s all cool. Have a glass of wine. Let’s be cool.’ And luckily we did get it back together, which was like a great source of joy because it would have been terrible if he’d been killed as things were at that point and I’d never got to straighten it out with him. This was me reaching out. So, I think it’s very powerful in some very simple way. But it was certainly heartfelt.”

ABOUT THE REISSUES:
PAUL McCARTNEY AND WINGS: WILD LIFE
PAUL McCARTNEY AND WINGS: RED ROSE SPEEDWAYLIMITED NUMBERED DELUXE EDITIONS TO INCLUDE REMASTERED ORIGINAL ALBUMS, BONUS TRACKS, PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED DEMOS, RARE AND NEVER BEFORE SEEN VIDEO, EXCLUSIVE BOOKS FEATURING NEW INTERVIEWS WITH PAUL, PHOTOS, ARTWORK, & MUCH MORETO BE RELEASED DECEMBER 7, 2018 VIA MPL/CAPITOL/UMe

First up is the four-disc (3CD, 1DVD) limited deluxe edition of Wild Life, the debut album from Wings, originally released December 1971. Written by Paul and Linda McCartney (with the exception of a cover of Mickey & Sylvia’s ‘Love Is Strange’), Wild Life is beloved by fans for its raw and direct vibe–having been recorded in just over a week with the majority of tracks laid down in a single take. Wild Life’s limited deluxe edition treatment features the full album remastered at Abbey Road plus 25 bonus audio tracks including rough mixes of the album, original single edits, B-sides, home recordings and other previously unreleased material across three CDs. The set’s DVD features rare footage of acoustic home videos, rehearsals and more. The Wild Life deluxe package includes a 128- page book written by David Fricke telling the story behind the album – including track-by-track information and new interviews with Paul and key album personnel, a 48-page scrapbook of tour diaries, lyrics and set lists, unpublished Polaroids, lyrics, notes and memorabilia from the MPL archives. Wild Life’s download redemption card will provide access to all audio in HD 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution versions.

Next up is a six-disc (3CD, 2DVD + 1Blu-ray) numbered limited deluxe edition of the second Wings album and first credited to Paul McCartney and Wings, Red Rose Speedway. Released in April 1973 and featuring the #1 single ‘My Love,’ Red Rose Speedway was the first Wings album to hit #1 on the U.S. chart. The Red Rose Speedway limited deluxe edition features three discs of audio including the original album remastered at Abbey Road, no less than 35 bonus audio tracks, including a reconstruction of the originally conceived double album version of Red Rose Speedway, singles, B-sides, alternate mixes and previously unreleased tracks. The 2DVD + Blu-ray portions of the deluxe are packed with rare and previously unseen footage, including the James Paul McCartney TV Special, interviews and music videos, as well as the never before seen film The Bruce McMouse Sho  fully restored and remixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The package includes a folio containing 14 replica hand drawn original character sketches by Paul and facsimile dialogue sheets for the film, a 128-page book containing many previously unpublished images by Linda McCartney, expanded album and single artwork from the archives and story behind the album — including new interviews with Paul McCartney, and key album personnel — and track-by-track information, written by Amanda Petrusich, five replica handwritten lyric sheets and photo print, a 64-page ‘Wings In Morocco’ photo book, all housed in a numbered outer slipcase. The Red Rose Speedway download redemption card will provide access to all audio in HD 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution versions.

Finally, the 11-disc Paul McCartney and Wings 1971–73 numbered limited edition super deluxe compilation features not only the entire contents of the Wild Life four-disc numbered limited deluxe edition and of the Red Rose Speedway 6-disc numbered limited deluxe edition—but also the exclusive live album, Wings Over Europe. This exclusive collection features 20 previously unreleased, newly mixed live tracks recorded over the course of 5 shows, an introduction featuring Paul recounting memories of the 1972 tour, a 96-page photo book including previously unreleased images by Linda McCartney and Captain Snap, a replica of the 1972 Wings Over Europe tour program, and access to downloadable 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution audio versions.

The Paul McCartney Archive Collection debuted with the November 2, 2010 re-release of Paul McCartney and Wings’ 1973 milestone Band on the Run, which won the 2010 GRAMMY Award for Best Historical Album, while the Archive Collection’s Deluxe Edition Box Set of the 1976 classic Wings Over America took the 2013 GRAMMY for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. The most recent previous installment was 2017’s reissue of Paul’s eighth studio album Flowers In The Dirt, which ROLLING STONE called “spectacular… an extraordinary document,” and the OBSERVER hailed as “perhaps the greatest record to emerge from the world of AOR in 1989… an absolute pleasure to rediscover today.”

Every release in the ongoing Paul McCartney Archive Collection is supervised by Paul himself, who oversees all aspects of each and every title from remastering to the curation of lost tracks, outtakes, artwork, photographs and video from his personal vaults, and much more. The result is one of the most ambitious and personal undertakings of its kind, one that encompasses more than 40 years of cherished, classic material from the most successful songwriter and recording artist in music history.

BEASTIE BOYS BOOK TOPS NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLERS LIST

BEASTIE BOYS BOOK TOPS NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLERS LIST

“a compendium of anecdotes, recipes, impish riffs and shaggy-dog stories and a heartfelt elegy to a much-missed friend… this scrapbook will help to consolidate a sprawling and complicated legacy.”—THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Wild, moving… resembles a Beastie Boys LP in its wild variety of styles…”—ROLLING STONE

“as Nutty, Irreverent, and Fun as You Think It Would Be…”—VOGUE

“As freewheeling and funny as their albums… a beautifully messy (and large) talisman containing within it many of the great joys and surprises that come with listening to the Beastie Boys”—THE AV CLUB

“sincere moments of reflection about their music, their friendship and the guy who taught them to fix radiators, to care about human rights, to own up to mistakes and to grow up.”—NPR MORNING EDITION

Beastie Boys Adam “Adrock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond can now add “bestselling authors” to their long list of bona fides. In the week following its October 30 release, Beastie Boys Book (Spiegel & Grau) has ascended to #1 on The New York Times Best Sellers List—topping both the Nonfiction Print Hardcover and Nonfiction Combined Print & E-Book Best Sellers charts.

Horovitz and Diamond are currently in the midst of the rapturously received Beastie Boys Book: Live & Direct event tour. The show features Mike D and Adrock reading from the book and in conversation, with a live score by Mix Master Mike and a staggeringly thorough Beastie Boys exhibit, curated by Beastie Boys & Beyond the Streets with Sonos providing sound, playing a mixtape curated by Adrock and Mike D.

The last currently scheduled Beastie Boys Book: Live & Direct dates are November 29th at O2 Forum Kentish Town and November 30th at EartH in London.

Written by Adrock and Mike D, with contributions from Amy Poehler, Colson Whitehead, Spike Jonze, Wes Anderson, Luc Sante, and more, Beastie Boys Book is a panoramic experience that tells the story of Beastie Boys for the first time in the band members’ own words. Horovitz and Diamond offer accounts of their transition from teenage punks to budding rappers; their early collaboration with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin; the debut album that became the first hip hop record ever to hit #1, Licensed to Ill—and the messy fallout as the band broke with Def Jam; their move to Los Angeles and rebirth with the genre-defying masterpiece Paul’s Boutique; their evolution as musicians and social activists over the course of the classic albums Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty and the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits conceived by the late Adam “MCA” Yauch and more.

With a style as distinctive and eclectic as a Beastie Boys album, Beastie Boys Book is so much more than a musicians’ memoir. Alongside Horovitz and Diamond’s personal recollections are an overwhelming assortment of rare photos and original illustrations, a cookbook by chef Roy Choi, a graphic novel, a map of Beastie Boys’ New York, mixtape playlists, and many more surprises.

About the Authors:
Beastie Boys is a trio consisting of Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Adrock” Horovitz, and the late Adam “MCA” Yauch (1964–2012), formed in 1981 as part of New York’s hardcore punk underground. The group’s first full-length album, Licensed to Ill, was the first rap album to reach #1. With seven multi-platinum albums from 1986 to 2011, including Licensed to Ill, Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the 5 Boroughs and Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, Beastie Boys are one of the longest-lived hip hop acts worldwide. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, received the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 1998, and have won three Grammy Awards.

METALLICA’S ALL WITHIN MY HANDS FOUNDATION
HELPING HANDS CONCERT & AUCTION RAISES OVER $1.3 MILLION

Bids Still Being Accepted for Select Items & Experiences through 5:00pm PT November 9th at talli.ca/awmhauction

Proceeds to Benefit Organizations Supported by ALL WITHIN MY HANDS

The first ever All Within My Hands Foundation Helping Hands Concert and Auction, which took place on November 3rd at the Masonic in San Francisco and featured a rare METALLICA acoustic performance, has raised more than $1.3 million—which will go to food banks in cities the band has played on its current WorldWired Tour and carefully selected community colleges throughout the country. All Within My Hands is supported in these efforts by the American Association of Community Colleges and Feeding America.

Formed in February 2017, All Within My Hands (AWMH) is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation focused on creating sustainable communities by tackling the issues of hunger and workforce education, and encouraging volunteerism. Metallica and the All Within My Hands board staged the the All Within My Hands Foundation Helping Hands Concert and Auction to celebrate the organization’s first full year in existence. Aside from the acoustic Metallica concert, this very special evening provided a unique opportunity to learn about the organizations Metallica and AWMH have supported, to bid on one of a kind auction items, and to also enjoy performances from Cage the Elephant and MC Kurt Braunohler.

The evening’s auction, featuring one of a kind Metallica experiences, autographed music memorabilia, priceless sports collectibles and more, closed with a total of 850 bids—with the exception of instruments played by the members of Metallica that night, as well as a number of unique experiences (some of which personally involve members of the band). Bidding on those select items will continue through 5:00pm PT November 9th at talli.ca/awmhauction.

AWMH was established in 2017 as a way for the entire Metallica family to give back to communities around the world that have supported the band on tour. In its first six months of operation, the Foundation donated more than $750,000 to local food banks around the world—a practice the band and AWMH have continued on the North American WorldWired Tour, donating to local food banks in every city and meeting dedicated people who focus their daily lives on helping others.

The Metallica family and the All Within My Hands Foundation board members are committed to running an organization of the highest integrity where expenses are kept to a minimum and are paid for entirely by the band, the board, and friends who have worked with the band over many years and are excited to help in this mission. As such, 100% of all donations from fans and third parties go to the organizations AWMH supports.

In preparation for their shows in Blackpool, Glasgow and London the band will play 3 intimate warm-up shows in Tynemouth, at the Tynemouth CIU Club on November 26th and Cullercoats Crescent Club on November 27th & 28th – each with a rare capacity of less than 100. Tickets go on sale at 9am GMT this Wednesday. Ticket information here.

This week saw the band make their first live appearance in seven years with the debut performance of album title track ‘Merrie Land’ and ‘Gun To The Head’ on ‘Later…. With Jools Holland’. Watch here.

Following an eleven-year hiatus since their eponymous debut, the four musical storytellers are back with Merrie Land, which will be self-released on the newly created label Studio 13.

Could there be a more perfect band – with their creative symbiosis of pasts and present and shared acclaimed music histories – to reflect on the anticipation, disorientation and confusion of current life.

The full track listing for Merrie Land is:

– Merrie Land
– Gun to the Head

A Statement from Metallica

The Metallica family is stunned and in disbelief at the loss of our friend and partner, Dave Pickerell. He was not only a mentor and friend, we considered him a member of Metallica. We learned so much from Dave in the all too brief time we had together. But more than anything, Dave was our good friend and we will miss him tremendously.

In his passion for his craft, we found a truly kindred soul – Dave lived to see people enjoy what he created, and we enjoyed every minute of our collaboration on our Blackened Whiskey with him. And judging by the smile on his face whenever we were together, we think the feeling was mutual.

Rest in Peace, Dave.

Advance Track “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” Out Today

LCD Soundsystem have released their version of Heaven 17’s 1981 classic “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang,” the first track to be made available from their forthcoming ELECTRIC LADY SESSIONS, due out later this year via Columbia Records/DFA.

Recorded live in the studio at its namesake, ELECTRIC LADY SESSIONS captures LCD Soundsystem at the height of the band’s powers during the tour supporting their AMERICAN DREAM album.

Released September 1, 2017, LCD Soundsystem’s fourth album AMERICAN DREAM was its first to enter the U.S. chart at #1 and was one of the year’s best reviewed records, finishing the year in the top 10 lists of ROLLING STONE, TIME, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, STEREOGUM, NEWSWEEK, PASTE and a host of others—and won LCD Soundsystem its first GRAMMY: Best Dance Recording for the single “tonite.”

METALLICA …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (REMASTERED)

DEFINITIVE RE-RELEASE OF 1988 BREAKTHROUGH ALBUM OUT TODAY

EXCLUSIVE NEW VIDEO INTERVIEW LIVE NOW AT METALLICA.COM

SAN FRANCISCO, CA –  NOVEMBER 2, 2018  –  Metallica marks the 30th anniversary of its breakthrough fourth album, …And Justice For All, with its definitive reissue, out today on the band’s own Blackened Recordings.

The re-release of …And Justice For All  has been remastered for the most advanced sound quality, as overseen by Greg Fidelman, and is available in multiple digital and physical configurations: physically as a Standard Double 180 gram LP, Standard CD, 3 CD Expanded Edition, Cassette, Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set and digitally as a Standard album (available to stream and download), an Expanded Edition (available for download only), and a Digital Deluxe Box Set (available for streaming and download). The 3 CD Expanded Edition includes previously unreleased demos, rough mixes, previously unreleased live tracks, and an expanded booklet of never-before-seen Ross Halfin photos. The one-pressing-only Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set includes the remastered double 180g LP, a “One” picture disc, 3 LPs featuring their iconic performance from Seattle in 1989 remixed by Greg Fidelman, 11 CDs, 4 DVDs, a set of four patches, a Pushead print, a tour laminate, lyric sheets, a download card for all material in the set, and a deluxe 120-page book with never-before-seen photos and never-before told firsthand stories.

The occasion of 30 years of Justice is also commemorated by radio and video specials featuring the band in conversation with renowned journalist David Fricke, who wrote the first Metallica feature in Rolling Stone during that era. Culled from a near two-hour interview that took place on the recent Pittsburgh stop of the WorldWired Tour, the special explores the origins of the nine tracks on Justice as well as the first video of their career, “One”–whose director Michael Salomon reunited with the band for the first time in nearly 30 years to discuss the creation of the iconic video. The special has begin airing on North American radio, and a video version produced by acclaimed director Claire Marie Vogel is available on Metallica.com.

…And Justice For All was originally released—despite what the internet might tell you— September 7th, 1988, on Elektra Records. Certified 8x Platinum in the United States, …And Justice For All marked a series of firsts for Metallica: The first full length Metallica recording to feature bassist Jason Newsted, the first Metallica album to crack the  U.S. Top 10 where it peaked at #6, the band’s first video and top 40 single (“One”), their debut performance on the Grammy Awards, as well as their first Grammy loss (Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental for …And Justice for All), and first Grammy win (Best Metal Performance for “One”). It also received more widespread critical acclaim than any of its predecessors, with Rolling Stone hailing the album as “a marvel of precisely channeled aggression,” Spin calling it “a gem of a double record,”  and ultimately placing in the Village Voice annual Pazz & Jop critics poll of the year’s best reviewed albums.

ABOUT METALLICA

Metallica was formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist / vocalist James Hetfield and in the 37 years since, they’ve pretty much done it all. They’re even releasing their own whiskey and line of watches. If you need to know more, loads of facts can be found on Wikipedia… and some of them are even true. One thing that is certain: the North American leg of their WorldWired tour resumes on November 26 in Las Vegas, NV and continues through March 13, 2019 in Grand Rapids, MI.
