To celebrate the release of Thom Yorke’s new video for “Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain)”from his current album ANIMA (released June 27 on XL Recordings), ANIMA Technologies opened its L.A. offices with a three-day immersive first look event.  The 5-minute short film, made at the Brooklyn-based experimental studio Art Camp, is set in a dream world inspired by fragments of Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood’s imagination and made up of over 3000 hand-illustrated frames. The first clips of the film were shown throughout the ANIMA Technologies’ offices, on desktop monitors as well as a custom-constructed TV wall. Sound experience was provided by Sonos.

The installation, which coincided with Thom, Nigel Godrich & Tarik Barri a/k/a Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ live performances at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre October 29 and 30, has ended as of 5pm PST October 30 with the world premiere of the video HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I03xFqbxUp8

Art Camp commented on their process interpreting the latest track from Thom’s current album ANIMA:

“Our first and last goal was to serve the feelings of the song and the record. Thom shared a list of visions with us, disconnected images from his dreams, and we expanded on it with visions from everyone who joined the video team, over a dozen of us.  At its core, our intention was to communicate the experience of feeling completely on your own, surrounded by people you see yourself in but don’t understand, who have lost their minds to the city and can’t see that you need their help.

The process for making this animation was extremely iterative and cyclical, and started from every direction at once. We experimented with clay sculpture and one-cent 3D horses, crowd simulations and charcoal dust, linear storytelling and abstract expression. We made the entire video and threw it away, made it again, threw it away, dozens of times. This of course was stressful but also beautiful.

Our goal is to create work that is surprising to ourselves, that we don’t understand how it happened. A lot of that has to do with trusting in the collaborative process– finding a wavelength where everyone feels free to go crazy in their own way, and push for what they most believe in. Our values are constantly being tested and rewritten in pursuit of creating a community where people really do feel loose and free and safe.  When it works the best, you end up with work that speaks in everyone’s voices and one voice.”

JENNY LEWIS: “RABBIT HOLE” OFFICIAL VIDEO NOW LIVE

JENNY LEWIS:

“RABBIT HOLE” OFFICIAL VIDEO NOW LIVE

DIRECTED BY ERIC NOTARNICOLA

Following a week that included a spectacular Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon performance that saw Jenny Lewis getting carried away (literally) and a sold-out night of bringing “Brooklyn To Its Feet” (GOTHAMIST) at the Kings Theatre, Jenny has unveiled a brand new clip for “Rabbit Hole,” from On The Line (Warner Records).

Like its predecessor “Red Bull & Hennessy”, “Rabbit Hole” was shot live and directed by Eric Notarnicola (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Nathan For You, Who Is America?), produced by Abso Lutely Productions and taken from the wonderfully surrealistic and hilarious “On The Line Online — The Three Hour Listening Party & Fundraiser” that raised over $10,000 for the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center.

The live video features Jenny navigating swirling scenes of mysterious costumed figures and celestial backdrops, with cameos from Mac DeMarco and King Tuff.

Watch the video now: https://jennylewis.lnk.to/RabbitHoleVid

With a slew of “utterly perfect” (GLIDE)  performances across the country, including both weekends at Austin City Limits Festival, Jenny is currently wrapping up the 2019 leg of the On The Line Tour as critical praise continues to roll in from the most recent shows:

“Jenny Lewis coolly showcased why her latest album is a candidate for album of the year.” —THE WRAP

“Jenny Lewis was a rock & roll god and more.” —ROLLING STONE (Pilgrimage Festival 2019: 5 Best Things We Saw)

“she oozed effortless, classic cool, with a voice that is aging like the bourbon you save for special occasions. Lewis made every moment feel momentous…Lewis was born to be there.” —THE WASHINGTON POST

Hot damn, is there anyone who makes it look easier than Jenny Lewis…The look was Elton, but the vibe was Loretta. With flicks of the wrist and puma struts, the VRBO stage became Jenny Lewis’ dive-bar residency. If you inhaled sharply, you’d get a little sawdust.” —AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN

“Channeling Dolly Parton if she had been raised in Laurel Canyon, Lewis remains the master…As effortless as she manifested to begin the performance, that confidence left her audience thoroughly moved and entertained.” —AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“She sounded better and looked more in charge here than perhaps ever, like a true icon.” —ORLANDO WEEKLY

“A true queen” —PANCAKES AND WHISKEY

“One of the project’s most impressive lineup of players”  —THE NEW YORK TIMES

“The latest volume in the (and first in 16 years) sees Homme bringing together another impressive hodgepodge of artists” —ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Ending a 16-year hiatus since its last installment, the most mythical, longest running rock n roll mixtape odyssey in existence, Desert Sessions has finally returned: The most ambitious entries yet in its expansive and elusive catalog: Vols. 11 & 12 (a/k/a respectively as Arrivederci Despair and Tightwads & Nitwits & Critics & Heels) are now available across digital and streaming services via Matador Records.

Highlights of the eight-song two-session collection include the creeping slowburn boogie of “Move Together” with its sublime Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) vocal, the propulsive rocker “Crucifire” fueled by an incendiary vocal performance from  Mike Kerr (Royal Blood), the self-explanatory “Chic Tweetz” featuring the enigmatic Töôrnst Hülpft, and the lush melodies of grand finale “Easier Said Than Done” featuring a showstopping vocal from ringleader Joshua Homme (Queens of the Stone Age).

Desert Sessions Vols. 11 & 12 also arrive in a limited edition first vinyl pressing including a one of a kind custom mix & match body swap booklet. Exclusive merchandise bundles are available for pre-order now at: https://desertsessions.ffm.to/vols11and12

Vols. 11 & 12 were recorded (mostly) in December 2018 at Rancho De La Luna studios in Joshua Tree, CA, with Queens of the Stone Age founder and Desert Sessions ringleader/producer Joshua Homme enlisting a cast of players including:

      Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top)
      Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint)
      Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters)
      Mike Kerr (Royal Blood)
      Carla Azar (Autolux, Jack White)
      Les Claypool (Primus)
Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Superwolf, Endless Boogie)
Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows, Toast of London)
      Libby Grace
      Töôrnst Hülpft

The resultant eight new songs that embody the legacy of freedom from expectations and inhibitions that stretches back to 1997, when Homme led a first retreat to the Joshua Tree desert. What began as a casual writing and recording session amongst friends—isolated from daily distractions and comforts—has since become a possibly infinite body of work. Now spanning 12 volumes over the course of two decades (and a total of two documented live performances), The Desert Sessions has featured some of music’s most cherished icons—past players have included Polly Harvey, Mark Lanegan, Josh Freese, Dean Ween, among many others—deliberately removing themselves from their comfort zones and working together to create some of their most relaxed yet challenging work.

The tracklist for Desert Sessions Vols. 11 & 12 (a/k/a Arrivederci Despair and Tightwads & Nitwits & Critics & Heels) is:

Move Together (lead vocal: Billy F. Gibbons)
Noses in Roses Forever (lead vocal: Joshua Homme)
      Far East for the Trees
If You Run (lead vocal: Libby Grace)
      Crucifire (lead vocal: Mike Kerr)
Chic Tweetz (vocals: Töôrnst Hülpft, Matt Berry)
Something You Can’t See (lead vocal: Jake Shears)
Easier Said Than Done (lead vocal: Joshua Homme)

Electric life will be in all our brains November 22, when Capitol Records releases Hyperspace: new colors, next phase and the brand new 14th album from seven-time GRAMMY-winning cultural chameleon BECK.

Hyperspace’s new dimensions in sound are the result of Beck’s most collaborative efforts to date. Seven of the album’s 11 tracks—including single “Uneventful Days” and “Saw Lightning” (as featured in the Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats Pro campaign and also included with pre-orders)—feature co-writing and co-production from Pharrell Williams. Elsewhere in Hyperspace, “See Through” is co-written/co-produced by frequent Beck collaborator Greg Kurstin, “Star” is co-written/co-produced by Paul Epworth, “Stratosphere” features back-up from Chris Martin, the album’s title track features guest vocals from Terrell Hines, and “Die Waiting” is co-written/co-produced by Cole M.G.N. with backing vocals from Sky Ferreira. Longtime Beck bandmates Jason Falkner, Smokey Hormel and Roger Manning Jr. feature on much of the album as well.

The complete track listing for Hyperspace is:

            1. Hyperlife
            2. Uneventful Days
            3. Saw Lightning
            4. Die Waiting
            5. Chemical
            6. See Through
            7. Hyperspace
            8. Stratosphere
            9. Dark Places
            10. Star
            11. Everlasting Nothing

Hyperspace will be Beck’s first album since 2017’s Colors, which won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 61st GRAMMY Awards earlier this year. Beck’s prolific post-Colors/pre-Hyperspace output has included “Tarantula” from Music Inspired by ROMA, “Super Cool” (featuring Robyn & The Lonely Island) from The LEGO Movie 2, and his feature appearance on Cage The Elephant’s “Night Running”—not to mention roadwork ranging from this summer’s co-headlining amphitheater tour with Cage The Elephant to his 2018 debut headline at Madison Square Garden to a stint as special guest on U2’s The Joshua Tree 2017 Tour.
