Following the extraordinary response to the online streaming event in July, audiences will have another chance to experience Idiot Prayer – Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace as it screens in cinemas globally via Trafalgar Releasing from 5 November. The cinematic release of this remarkable and compelling film will be followed by an album on 20 November, available on vinyl, CD and streaming services worldwide.

Idiot Prayer – Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace was recorded in June 2020 as the UK slowly emerged from lockdown, and was conceived as a reaction to the confinement and Isolation of the preceding months. Initially imagined as an online only event, fans will now be able to see the film in cinemas as an extended cut featuring four unseen performances.

Two weeks later on 20 November, the music will be released as a double album of the same name featuring all 22 songs from the original film on vinyl, CD and streaming.

In Idiot Prayer, Cave plays his songs alone at the piano in a rarely seen stripped back form, from early Bad Seeds and Grinderman, right through to the most recent Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album, Ghosteen

The performance was filmed by award winning Cinematographer Robbie Ryan (The Favourite, Marriage Story, American Honey) in Alexandra Palace’s stunning West Hall. It was edited by Nick Emerson (Lady Macbeth, Emma, Greta). The music was recorded by Dom Monks.

Idiot Prayer is the fourth film that Nick Cave has released in collaboration with Trafalgar Releasing, following 2018’s Distant Sky – Live in Copenhagen directed by David Barnard, 2016’s One More Time With Feeling directed by Andrew Dominik and 2014’s award winning 20.000 Days on Earth directed by lain Forsyth & Jane Pollard.

“The film ‘Idiot Prayer’ evolved from my ‘Conversations With…’ events. I loved playing deconstructed versions of my songs at these shows, distilling them to their essential forms. I felt I was rediscovering the songs all over again, and started to think about going into a studio and recording these reimagined versions at some stage – whenever I could find the time.

Then the pandemic came – the world went into lockdown, and fell into an eerie, self reflective silence. It was within this silence that began to think about the idea of not only recording the songs, but also filming them.

We worked with the team at Alexandra Palace – a venue I have played and love – on securing a date to film just as soon as they were allowed to re-open the building to us.

On 19th June 2020, surrounded by Covid officers with tape measures and thermometers, masked-up gaffers and camera operators, nervous looking technicians and buckets of hand gel, we created something very strange and very beautiful that spoke into this uncertain time, but was in no way bowed by it.

This is the album taken from that film. It is a prayer into the void – alone at Alexandra Palace – a souvenir from a strange and precarious moment in history. I hope you enjoy it.”Nick Cave

WOODKID: S16 NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW

WOODKID

S16

NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE FOR DIGITAL & PHYSICAL PRE-ORDER NOW

OCTOBER 16 RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED

woodkid.com

“Echoing, tense and emotional, ‘Goliath’ is a song on an epic scale, with crackling percussion and heartbeat bass underlying his reaching vocals… the music’s compulsion is to buoy us to victory against the odds.”—TIME

“‘Pale Yellow’ is the latest sampling from the new effort… crooning over orchestral instrumentation before intricate industrial beats enter the picture. It’s a promising taste of what’s to come from the long-awaited new album.”—UPROXX

S16’s first single and video “Goliath”, with its authentic questioning of individual and collective responsibility for the state of the world, was named one of TIME Magazine’s Best Songs of April, as well as one of ROLLING STONE’s Songs You Need To Know. “Pale Yellow,” a meditation on intimacy and struggles to overcome trials both mental and physical, followed in June, and was lauded by UPROXX as “a promising taste of what’s to come from the long-awaited new album.”

That long-awaited sophomore Woodkid album is now a giant step closer to reality, with a confirmed title and release date: S16 will be released October 16 via Caroline Records in the U.S. and can be pre-ordered now at: https://woodkid.lnk.to/S16_PreOrder

Through his new album S16, Woodkid questions the notion of scale, from infinitely large to infinitely small, the balance of forces between human and industrial, and the idea of collective and individual responsibility for creating a world on the verge of breakdown.

S16 was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, and other locales including Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles and Iceland, also calling upon Tokyo’s Suginami Junior Chorus to find just the right opening for one particular passage. Its name alluding to the chemical symbol and atomic number for sulphur in physics, S16 questions matter itself; what are our cells, our hearts made of? Where is the boundary between reality and fiction? Sulphur is, indeed, an essential element for living things, but liable to burst into flames. Like the ardent suffering stoked by music, which can then soothe, like being wrapped in a hug.

S16 is the follow-up to Woodkid’s 2013 debut The Golden Age, which sold nearly one million copies worldwide and was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards. In the time since The Golden Age was released, Woodkid has worked with Nicolas Ghesquière from Louis Vuitton, the New York City Ballet, Jonas Cuaron to write the original soundtrack of Desierto, and more. Dior Homme’s fall-winter 2013 collection, “A Soldier on My Own,” was inspired and soundtracked by The Golden Age’s “Iron,” named for a phrase in the song’s lyrics. More recently, in 2019, the second episode of Netflix’s monster hit series The Umbrella Academy featured another song from The Golden Age, “Run Boy Run,” both as soundtrack to a pivotal scene and as the episode’s title.

S16 will be available across digital and streaming platforms, with physical configurations including standard black vinyl and limited color vinyl 2LP editions, single CD, and a very limited Vinyl Box Edition (D2C only). Please visit woodkid.com and adaptiveminerals.com for further information and updates.

METALLICA & SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY: S&M2 THE LONG-AWAITED ALBUM AND FILM AVAILABLE NOW

METALLICA & SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY: S&M2

LONG-AWAITED ALBUM AND FILM AVAILABLE NOW

“S&M2 does a fantastic job capturing what it felt like to be in the audience… a great memento of such a monumental night in Bay Area live music history… if you own the first awesome S&M, do you need this follow-up as well? Absolutely. S&M2 works as an excellent companion piece to the earlier Grammy winner, featuring nine different selections — including three from the band’s most recent album, “Hardwired … to Self Destruct — and showcasing a legendary rock band at a very different, though no less satisfying, point in its musical career.”—THE MERCURY NEWS

Preceded by its Metallica + San Francisco Symphony versions of “All Within My Hands,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Moth Into Flame” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” Metallica and San Francisco Symphony: S&M2 is at long last available in stores and across digital platforms worldwide.

Metallica and San Francisco Symphony’s sold out September 6 & 8, 2019 S&M2 concerts were ecstatically received by 40,000 fans traveling from nearly 70 countries, as well as the national and local media: Rolling Stone raved “the group proved that anything was possible,” Variety noted an atmosphere “buzzing with excitement,” and Consequence of Sound hailed “a true celebration of Metallica and their musical prowess.” The shows were historic on a number of levels: Serving as the grand opening of San Francisco’s Chase Center, reuniting the band and Symphony for the first time since the 1999 performances captured on the Grammy-winning S&M album, and featuring the first-ever symphonic renditions of songs from St. Anger, Death Magnetic, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, and more.

S&M2 is a landmark release in the Metallica catalogue, both sonically and visually. Produced by Greg Fidelman with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, the S&M2 live album captures more than two and a half hours of Hetfield, Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo joining forces with the nearly 80-strong SF Symphony, legendary Music Director of the orchestra Michael Tilson Thomas, and conductor Edwin Outwater. The concert film is a brand-new edit done by Joe Hutching (Through The Never), with both the audio and visuals taken to the next level from the October 2019 theatrical version that played in over 3,700 cinemas worldwide.

Blackened Recordings has brought S&M2 to life once more in a staggering array of formats: ranging from a digital album on all leading streaming outlets, to 4LP vinyl, 2CD, DVD and Blu-ray versions, to a limited edition color vinyl 4LP + 2CD + Blu-ray Deluxe Box featuring sheet music, guitar picks, poster and more, all the way up to a Metallica.com exclusive Super Deluxe Box, limited to 500 copies, each featuring actual sheet music used by the Symphony during the shows and hand-signed by all four band members (in addition to including everything in the Deluxe Box). With this comprehensive Blackened Recordings release, S&M2 can be fully experienced by others beyond those who squeezed into the Chase Center over those two unforgettable evenings.

See below for track listing and detailed list of configurations, and visit metallica.com/sm2 for further information.

ST. VINCENT JOINS WITH INTERNATIONAL ROCK STAR YOSHIKI TO REIMAGINE “NEW YORK”

GRAMMY®-WINNER ST. VINCENT JOINS WITH
INTERNATIONAL ROCK STAR YOSHIKI
TO REIMAGINE “NEW YORK”

TRANS-PACIFIC COLLABORATIVE VERSION OF
ST. VINCENT SIGNATURE SONG AVAILABLE
WORLDWIDE AUGUST 28

Multiple Grammy®-winning artist ST. VINCENT has partnered with international rock star/composer YOSHIKI to craft a fresh version of her song “New York”, set for release August 28 through Loma Vista and Concord in association with Universal Music.

The new version of ST. VINCENT’s bittersweet signature tune originally released on her international Top 10 album MASSEDUCTION, features YOSHIKI’s classical-inspired arrangements that infuse the song’s timeless melodies with unpredictable new textures.

The surprise pairing of ST. VINCENT and YOSHIKI emerged organically, born of a kindred passion for genre-bending originality. Both have transcended musical boundaries to forge their own singular musical and visual identities, making it as natural as it was unexpected for them to come together.

ST. VINCENT said, “It was an honor to work with the amazing YOSHIKI on this new version of ‘New York’. YOSHIKI’s arrangement added to the song in the way time or distance transform longtime friends or relationships: the original is still recognizable, but subtly and significantly altered.”

YOSHIKI said, “As an artist, I admire how ST. VINCENT approaches music in an innovative and courageous way. Her music breaks the boundaries of genres, which is a mindset I can completely relate to. My band X JAPAN played the Coachella Festival in 2018 at the same time that ST. VINCENT performed, but at that time we didn’t meet. But this year, through mutual friends, we were introduced. In terms of ‘New York,’ it’s a great song to start with, and I’m grateful that she trusted me to fully rearrange the song with my classical approach. I hope ST. VINCENT’s fans enjoy it, and that my fans will too.”

About ST. VINCENT
Annie Clark made her recorded debut as ST. VINCENT in 2007 with Marry Me and has since become one of the most innovative and enigmatic presences in modern music.

Each of ST. VINCENT’s four subsequent albums has met with critical acclaim and commercial success eclipsing that of its predecessor. These albums would include Actor (2009), Strange Mercy (2011), and her self-titled fourth album and winner of the 2014 Grammy for Best Alternative Album, making her only the second female artist ever to win in that category. In addition to these solo works, ST. VINCENT joined with David Byrne to record and release the collaborative album Love This Giant in 2012, and performed with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear of Nirvana at the band’s 2014 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, playing the season finale of Saturday Night Live that same year.

In 2017, working with co-producer Jack Antonoff, ST. VINCENT created a defining statement with MASSEDUCTION. As ambitious as it was accessible, the album broke ST. VINCENT into the U.S. and UK top 10s while landing at #1 on the Best of 2017 lists of Jon Pareles of The New York Times and The Guardian—and placing high in the year-end rankings of The AV Club, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Mashable, The New York Daily News, the NME, Noisey, Paste, Pitchfork, Q, Stereogum, USA Today, and more.

ST. VINCENT’s latest album, MassEducation, reveals another dimension of 2017’s universally acclaimed MASSEDUCTION. A stunning standalone work in its own right, MassEducation was recorded live in the studio by Annie Clark on vocals and Thomas Bartlett on piano over two nights in August 2017 during the mixing of MASSEDUCTION.

The album lays bare the exquisite songcraft of its other half, rendering songs like “Slow Disco” and “Savior” and their subjects in vivid, vulnerable new light. Clark herself describes the album as “two dear friends playing songs together with the kind of secret understanding one can only get through endless nights in New York City.”

Outside of recording and performing, ST. VINCENT has directed the short horror film The Birthday Party, released two editions of her signature Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, and co-written and starred as a fictionalized version of herself in the upcoming film The Nowhere Inn

BECK Presents HYPERSPACE: A.I. EXPLORATION A Visual Album Experience

BECK
Presents

HYPERSPACE: A.I. EXPLORATION
A Visual Album Experience

Historic Collaboration Between Explorers of Sound and Space

“ I THINK EACH SONG IS KIND OF A DIFFERENT WAY THAT DIFFERENT PEOPLE ‘HYPERSPACE’ – WE ESCAPE FROM THE REALITY THAT WE’RE ALL DEALING WITH.” – BECK

Given that ROLLING STONE’s 4-star review of Beck’s Hyperspace (Capitol Records) likened his voice to “David Bowie’s Major Tom checking in from distant orbit,” it’s purely logical that the seven-time GRAMMY-winner’s next collaboration would be with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in southern California.

With the release of Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration, Beck takes the universally acclaimed album to new frontiers via an interstellar journey combining publicly available NASA mission images, curated with assistance from NASA JPL, visualizations, animations and data with revolutionary Artificial Intelligence tech. The result is the creation of new worlds borne from NASA missions, each soundtracked by Beck’s songs: actual Hyperspaces.

The realization of these Hyperspaces was executed by A.I. architects and directors OSK, who asked “How would artificial intelligence imagine our universe?” In finding the answer, OSK created a unique A.I. utilizing computer vision, machine learning and Generative Adversarial neural Networks (GAN) to learn from NASA’s vast archives. After training on hundreds of thousands of images, videos and data points from NASA’s space exploration research and missions, the Hyperspace A.I. then began creating its own visions of our universe.

The resulting visual album merges science and art, taking us on a journey across space, time, and beyond – all scored by the otherworldly music of Beck’s Hyperspace. Actual NASA expeditions and data are transformed into vivid new universes “imagined” by an emerging new kind of creative intelligence.

The Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration Visual Album Experience track listing including corresponding NASA destinations is as follows:

Hyperlife | Landsat 8, International Space Station
Uneventful Days | Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), Apollo 12
Saw Lightning | Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), Curiosity Rover, Viking 1 Orbiter
Die Waiting | Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)
      Chemical | Cassini-Huygens
      See Through | Juno
Hyperspace | Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)
      Stratosphere | Spitzer Space Telescope
Dark Places | Hubble Space Telescope (HST)
Star | Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Swift, Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope
Everlasting Nothing | Hubble Space Telescope (HST)

+ visualizers for bonus tracks ‘I Am The Cosmos (42420)’ and ‘Dark Places (Soundscape) using A.I. footage trained on NASA black hole and star data.

In addition to taking his 14th album beyond the confines of the atmosphere, Beck ventures further into these songs’ innerspace via a limited edition vinyl LP release of Hyperspace. Due out December 4, Hyperspace (2020) features two previously unreleased songs ‘Dark Places (Soundscape)’ and a bonus solo acoustic version of Chris Bell’s ‘I Am The Cosmos (42420)’ recorded at home in April of 2020, plus brand new 2020 mixes of ‘Star’, ‘Hyperspace’, ‘See Through’ and ‘Die Waiting’. The vinyl is a limited edition 12” with holographic jacket, and also includes a 24-page booklet with AI images & NASA data for each track, limited to 5000 copies. The Hyperspace special edition LP adds new dimensions to the Beck album PEOPLE magazine called “his best in a decade.”

S&M2 will be released August 28 on the band’s own Blackened Recordings.

In addition to Metallica, Three Days Grace, will also serve as the official Encore Drive-In Nights opening act for the August 29 show.

Drive-in theaters hosting the concert will adhere to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended guidelines as well as all state and local health mandates. Staff will wear personal protective equipment and enforce at least six feet of space between cars. The series will also use contactless payment and ticketing systems and limit capacity in restrooms. Guidelines around concessions will be enforced to abide by individual state regulations. For a full list of procedures that the Encore Drive-In Nights is employing to keep fans and staff safe, visit encorenights.com.

Unlike traditional concert tickets that are bought for one fan’s individual admission, each purchase for Encore Drive-In Nights’ concerts will admit one carload of fans.
