GHOST: NEW TRACK, “THE FUTURE IS A FOREIGN LAND,” OUT NOW

GHOST

“THE FUTURE IS A FOREIGN LAND”

PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED NEW STUDIO TRACK OUT NOW

FROM RITE HERE RITE NOW: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Out July 26 via Loma Vista Recordings

Listen HERE

Taking the world by surprise with its debut during the opening night of GHOST’s first ever feature film RITE HERE RITE NOW, the never-before-heard “The Future is a Foreign Land” is cause for celebration amongst the millions of fans of GHOST’s legendary 1969 era. Long thought lost to the sands of time, “Future…” is the third song from the GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock icons’ timeless 1969 sessions featuring Papa Nihil fronting an early incarnation of the band — the same lineup that blessed us with the now-classic Seven Inches of Satanic Panic single. That single’s pair of GHOST swinging sixties staples — “Kiss the Go-Goat” and the RIAA-certified platinum Tik Tok phenomenon and Billboard Hot 100 breakthrough “Mary on a Cross” — has become an unholy trinity with the unearthing of “The Future is a Foreign Land.” While its wicked twangy guitar figures and portentous lyrics of an impending 1984 render the song instantly recognizable as an artifact of the era, “Future…” is suffused with presciently modern signatures of the contemporary GHOST sound. Ending with an optimistic nod to 2024, “Future…” was revealed to the children of the world during the end credits of RITE HERE RITE NOW‘s world premiere, and is the sole previously unreleased studio track to be included on the movie’s original soundtrack.

The tracklist titles for RITE HERE RITE NOW: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack are as follows:

  1. Imperium
  2. Kaisarion
  3. Rats
  4. Faith
  5. Spillways
  6. Cirice
  7. Absolution
  8. Call Me Little Sunshine
  9. Watcher In The Sky
  10. If You Have Ghosts (Chamber Version)
  11. Twenties
  12. Miasma
  13. Mary On A Cross
  14. Respite On The Spitalfields
  15. Kiss The Go-Goat
  16. Dance Macabre
  17. Square Hammer
  18. The Future Is A Foreign Land*

*All songs recorded live from the Kia Forum except “Future is a Foreign Land”

RITE HERE RITE NOW’s theatrical run opened June 20 via Trafalgar Releasing, its unique phantasmagorical blend of mesmerizing live performance and intriguing narrative having haunted nearly 2000 cinemas across nearly 50 countries. RITE HERE RITE NOW: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released worldwide on July 26 via Loma Vista Recordings. A fitting 18-song complement to the feature film, the band’s first ever original soundtrack will be available on all formats (digital, CD, 2xLP). Pre-orders are live now here, and include “The Future is a Foreign Land” as well as a live version of “Absolution,” captured at the now-legendary sold-out two-night stand at the Forum where the concert footage featured in the film was shot.

Whether you’re a devoted disciple looking to relive treasured memories of the GHOST live spectacle or among the curious uninitiated, RITE HERE RITE NOW and its companion soundtrack will put you right there: putting your phones down and living in the moment—as a shadow of uncertainty looms—completely spellbound and in the thrall of this bombastic yet intimate cinematic portrait of GHOST.

RITE HERE RITE NOW is directed by Tobias Forge of GHOST and Alex Ross Perry, and is produced by Popecorn Cinematic Pictures. Producers include Kristen Mulderig, Rick Sales, Craig Butta and Jonas Åkerlund. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was mixed by Rich Costey.

About GHOST
Accumulating nearly 10 billion streams, GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock band and global sensation GHOST continues to bring the “euphoric spectacle” (ROLLING STONE) of its live shows to ever-growing crowds, most recently on last year’s triumphant RE-IMPERATOUR U.S.A. 2023, which hit more than two dozen North American cities before its two-night finale at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. In March 2022, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reported in a Calendar cover story that GHOST had “conquered metal and the charts” when its fifth album IMPERA debuted at #1 in a sweep of the U.S. album charts, entering the BILLBOARD 200 at #2 and bowing at #1 in the band’s native Sweden, Germany and Finland, while cracking the top 5 in another half dozen or more countries. Featuring “Spillways”—hailed as a “sweetly constructed rock tune” by THE NEW YORK TIMES and later reimagined with Joe Elliott of Def Leppard—and the GRAMMY-nominated “Call Me Little Sunshine,” GHOST’s fifth #1 at Active Rock radio—IMPERA moved ROLLING STONE to remark, “GHOST predicted the pandemic, now the metal band is foretelling the fall of empires.” The album presented the most current and topical GHOST subject matter to date set against a darkly colorful melodic backdrop making IMPERA a listen like no other—yet unmistakably, quintessentially GHOST. Having closed out 2022 by cracking the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, with the RIAA platinum-certified “Mary on a Cross,” as well as IMPERA winning Favorite Rock Album at the American Music Awards and Best Rock Album of the Year at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, GHOST unveiled PHANTOMIME, a five-song covers EP including the version of Iron Maiden’s “Phantom of the Opera” that earned the band its fifth GRAMMY nomination. GHOST’s seemingly limitless ambition will soon take the band to the silver screen with the June 2024 theatrical premiere of the feature film RITE HERE RITE NOW.

The wait is over: today, One Hand Clapping, one of the most bootlegged live albums in musical history, finally receives a proper release. In August 1974, when Band on the Run was enjoying a seven-week consecutive #1 stint at the top of the UK album charts, Paul McCartney and Wings headed to Abbey Road Studios for the filming of a video documentary and possible live studio album – One Hand Clapping. Despite overwhelming demand for newly recorded material from the biggest band in the world at that time, One Hand Clapping was never officially released.

Filmed and recorded over four days and directed by David Litchfield, the release of One Hand Clapping is a historic moment for Paul McCartney fans. Over the years, various parts of One Hand Clapping have been bootlegged with varying degrees of success. Some of the material has also appeared on official McCartney releases. However, today’s new release of One Hand Clapping, which features the original artwork designed for the project, including a TV sales brochure for the unreleased film at the time, is the first time the audio for the film—plus several additional songs recorded off-camera–have been officially issued.

Fully restored, newly mixed, and mastered from Paul McCartney and Wings’ original Abbey Road Studios performance captured for the One Hand Clapping documentary film in 1974, a new music video for live-favorite “Soily” is available to watch today here in tandem with the album release.

One Hand Clapping showcased Wings‘ new line-up, fresh off their return from Nashville, where they recorded the classic single “Junior’s Farm.” Following the sudden departure of Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough the previous year, on the eve of recording the Wings masterpiece Band on the Run, Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine were now joined by guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton. Additionally joining the band in the studio were orchestral arranger Del Newman and saxophonist Howie Casey, who had previously played with Paul in Hamburg and would go on to join the Wings touring band.

Opening with an instrumental jam that would become the One Hand Clapping theme song, the album features live-in-studio renditions of Wings mega-hits “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “Jet,” “My Love,” “Hi, Hi, Hi,” “Junior’s Farm,” Paul’s much loved solo song “Maybe I’m Amazed,” reworked extracts of Beatles’ classics “Let It Be,” “The Long and Winding Road” and “Lady Madonna,” the Moody Blues hit “Go Now” with Denny Laine singing, and a Paul solo piano version of the Harry Akst/Benny  Davis Tin Pan Alley classic “Baby Face.”

One Hand Clapping will be released in multiple formats, including an online exclusive 2LP + 7” package featuring an exclusive vinyl single of previously unreleased solo performances recorded on the final day of the sessions in the backyard of Abbey Road studios. These include the unreleased track “Blackpool,” The Beatles’ iconic “Blackbird,” Wings’ B-side “Country Dreamer,” and cover versions of Eddie Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock” (the first song Paul played to John Lennon when they met in 1957) and Buddy Holly’s “Peggy Sue” and “I’m Gonna Love You Too.” Order One Hand Clapping HEREOne Hand Clapping serves as a celebration of the enduring legacy of Paul McCartney and Wings. It captured a moment when Wings had found and defined their signature sound – just as Paul had shaped popular culture the decade before with The Beatles, he was doing it once again in the 70s with Wings. This recording gives an insight into the inner workings of the band as they work and play together in the studio. It also underscores Paul’s incredible talent as a live performer:  Fifty years on, Paul is still performing many of these songs in packed stadiums across the world.

Ahead of its world premiere, Trafalgar Releasing has unveiled a first-look clip of GHOST’s debut film, RITE HERE RITE NOW.  In the spirit of the feature film, the clip juxtaposes mesmerizing live footage of GHOST performing for capacity crowds, showcasing a sequence of the song “Kaisarion” from the 2022 album IMPERA, with intriguing backstage machinations sure to fuel fever-pitch speculation regarding plot threads drawn from the  GRAMMY-winning band’s Chapters series.

Due to the overwhelming demand, further theatrical dates have been added to the worldwide launch of RITE HERE RITE NOW which will now premiere in cinemas over four days on June 20, 21, 22 & 23 (tickets on sale here).

RITE HERE RITE NOW combines live performance from the sold-out  two-night finale of the band’s RE-IMPERATOUR U.S.A. 2023 with a narrative story that picks up plot threads from the band’s long-running Chapters series. The result is an utterly unique phantasmagorical blend: Flesh and bone renditions of favorites from all five of GHOST’s albums as well as the RIAA platinum-certified “Mary On A Cross” and more are interwoven with the silver screen debuts of a few faces familiar to the band’s legions of fans—all interacting behind the scenes with GHOST’s Papa Emeritus IV, as his future and fate lay in the hands of the Ministry.

RITE HERE RITE NOW: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released worldwide on July 26 via Loma Vista Recordings. A fitting 18-song complement to GHOST’s debut feature film, the band’s first ever original soundtrack will be available on all formats (digital, CD, 2xLP).
