“the raw power of the material and visceral intensity of the performance was – at times – breathtaking”  — THE TELEGRAPH

“a show like no other from a true once-in-a-generation songwriting partnership”  — NME

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have announced a spring 2022 tour of North America.

In their first ever North American tour as a duo, Cave and Ellis will play 17 shows across the continent this March and April, following the release of their acclaimed album CARNAGE and a run of phenomenal shows across the UK and Europe in Fall 2021.

Tickets go on sale Friday, November 19 at 10am (local time) at nickcave.com.

While they have composed and recorded soundtracks together, and Ellis is a long-term member of The Bad Seeds, CARNAGE is the first entire album of songs the pair have released.

Cave and Ellis’ creative chemistry is rooted in their long history of music making, both as collaborators and as individual artists. They first crossed paths in 1993, when Ellis played violin on several songs for the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album Let Love In, before going on to join the band as a full-time member. The two have also recorded in Grinderman, formed in 2006, and have worked together on numerous film and TV scores.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ new album CARNAGE is out now.

“Some heavy, tormented records that reflect the pulverizing grief of the post-pandemic world feel like they might crush a listener; others offer the consolation of a weighted blanket. CARNAGE, the first official album from Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds bandmate Warren Ellis, is the latter, rumbling toward catharsis through impenetrable noise and jarring lyricism balanced precariously on sudden celestial arrangements.” —THE NEW YORKER

“(4 stars)… two Bad Seeds confront loneliness, cabin fever, and white supremacy — while still showing a glint of optimism… as sparse as it sounds, there’s great depth to CARNAGE.” —ROLLING STONE

“… the pair find an awe-filled beauty in the both the minutiae of the everyday and the immensity of existence… a moving, transportive meditation on what comes after—after grief, after life, after love—and finds reasons to keep going.” —AV CLUB

“… at turns brutal, surreal, and romantic… draws from the formal language of modern cinema, concerned less with verses and choruses than images, settings, visceral portrayals of extreme emotional states.” —PITCHFORK

“It’s been a hell of a year, and perhaps a glimpse of heaven is a better prescription than a war cry… what Cave and Ellis have crafted with CARNAGE is a refreshing respite from chaos, a record that sits at the burning edge of dawn and anticipates destruction’s undoing.” —CONSEQUENCE

“… stunningly, heartbreakingly beautiful… CARNAGE is brutal in a spiritual sense more than a stylistic one, approaching these moments of elemental beauty only after traversing rocky ground.” —STEREOGUM

DAMON ALBARN: SECOND SOLO ALBUM OUT NOW

DAMON ALBARN

SECOND SOLO ALBUM OUT NOW

THE NEARER THE FOUNTAIN,
MORE PURE THE STREAM FLOWS

APPEARING TONIGHT ON THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON

“… the perfect soundtrack for a time when the world is .. emerging from the storm.” – Rolling Stone

“… the acid wit of Damon Albarn’s earlier work further peels away to reveal contemplative lyrics about the passage of time, among other openhearted ideas, set against a shimmering musical backdrop of strings and synth textures.” —The New York Times

“Backed by the sounds of crashing waves and blissed-out ambient textures, the singer has never sounded so deeply in touch with nature — and with himself.” —Entertainment Weekly

“dreamy and evocative” —Los Angeles

Damon Albarn’s second solo album is out now. The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows is finally released today by Transgressive Records, along with new track Darkness To Light —which Damon will perform this evening on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Originally conceived as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscape of Iceland, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows evolved during lockdown to the 11 new tracks included on the album. Albarn has performed the record in full at sold-out shows throughout the summer, a highlight being a headline show and global live stream from the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe in September, and he will perform a select number of solo piano dates in the UK for the first time next month. This run of very special shows, presented in association with local record stores, will start on 2nd December in York Minster ahead of Norwich, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Glasgow and Coventry. The stripped back solo set will feature Albarn performing tracks from his new album, as well as selected favorites from across his songbook, for a series of short, intimate piano performances.

In a career of perpetual musical shifts and exploration, this new record uncovers yet more ground, finding expansive orchestral arrangements nestling with intimate melodies, discordance brushing up against infectious majesty, all set to some of Albarn’s most arresting vocal performances to date. Much like the beauty and chaos of the natural world it soundtracks, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows vividly documents the emotional ebb and flow of the human condition, in all its extremes, serving as a soul enriching document for our times.

To mark the album release, Damon Albarn – The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, a special guest takeover at the Eranda Studio at The Photographers’ Gallery, London, powered by Amazon Music, will open for a limited run from 12th November – 21st November 2021. A studio space, curated by Anna Sparham, showcasing source materials and inspirations behind the new album, featuring unseen artwork, photography and film footage, plus Albarn’s own sketches and lyrics. Also available today is new track Darkness To Light “…a deliciously sad ballad about the Arctic winter in which ‘Crushed satellites dance/In silent conga…’” (UNCUT). Listen here. To accompany the song’s release, a track visualizer of Darkness To Light is available today on YouTube. Watch here.

Configurations Ranging From 8LP+7-inch and 5CD + Blu-ray Super Deluxe Editions to Standard Digital/CD

The September 24, 1991 release of Nirvana’s Nevermind touched off a seismic shift in global youth culture. Rising to #1 worldwide over the next few months, its impact would elevate Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl from a promising Pacific Northwest cult band to one of the most successful and influential musical entities of all time. Nevermind returned rock ’n’ roll integrity and passion to the top of the charts, and continues to be a singular inspiration to fans and musicians alike over the last three decades–as it no doubt will for generations to come.

Beginning today, November 12, 2021, Geffen/UMe commemorates the 30th anniversary of Nevermind with several multi-format reissues. A total of 94 audio and video tracks–70 previously unreleased–will be made available across configurations ranging from Super Deluxe Editions to standard digital/CD and single disc vinyl with bonus 7-inch. In all formats, Nevermind is newly remastered from the original half-inch stereo analog tapes to high-resolution 192kHz 24-bit.

Among the previously unreleased material exclusive to various versions of the Nevermind 30th Anniversary Editions are four complete live shows that document Nirvana’s historic ascension on the concert stage – Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands (recorded and filmed on November 25, 1991 at the famed club Paradiso); Live in Del Mar, California (recorded on December 28, 1991 at the Pat O’Brien Pavilion at the Del Mar Fairgrounds); Live in Melbourne, Australia for triple j (recorded February 1, 1992 at The Palace in St. Kilda); and Live in Tokyo, Japan (recorded at the Nakano Sunplaza on February 19, 1992).

RADIOHEAD & EPIC GAMES PUBLISHING PRESENT KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION

RADIOHEAD

EPIC GAMES PUBLISHING
Present
KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION

Free Download Available November 18th

See the Trailer HERE

Radiohead and Epic Games Publishing are proud to present KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION: an upside-down digital/analog universe created from original artwork by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood and sound design by Nigel Godrich to commemorate 21 years of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums.

KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION will be available beginning November 18th as a free download for PlayStation 5 (HERE), PC and Mac at EPIC GAMES STORE. A trailer is now live at: https://youtu.be/AOinMjQ9jo8

Some two years in the making, KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION was originally conceived as a physical installation debuting in London and designed for portability, for possible travel to New York, Tokyo, Paris and so on.

A confluence of events including but not limited to laws of zoning and physics and Covid-19 would conspire to thwart those best laid plans, moving KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION beyond the physical world. Thom and Stanley, along with Kid A and Amnesiac producer Nigel, would join forces with video/computer artist and creative director Sean Evans, theatre set designer Christine Jones, interactive producer Matthew Davis, his studio [namethemachine], and game developers Arbitrarily Good Productions to reimagine KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION in a non-corporeal form that would enhance and emphasize the inseparable nature of these sounds and visions. Finally, Epic Games Publishing would be enlisted to put it all out into the world.

Everything experienced within KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION is sourced directly from the original artwork and multitrack recordings of those fourth and fifth Radiohead albums—all rebuilt from the original elements in a new controlled space without  the limitations of stereo sound or LP/CD packaging.

KID A MNESIA EXHIBITION can be considered a mutant re-engineering of KID A MNESIA, the multiple format triple-album release marking the 21st anniversary of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums, released November 5th via XL Recordings. KID A MNESIA collects Radiohead’s fourth and fifth albums alongside the debut of a newly compiled third disc titled Kid Amnesiae. Exclusive to this release, Kid Amnesiae is comprised of unearthed material culled from the Kid A / Amnesiac sessions. Along with alternate versions and elements of Kid A and Amnesiac album tracks and B-Sides, Kid Amnesiae features the never-before-heard “If You Say the Word” (available now as a digital single) and a previously unreleased studio recording of “Follow Me Around.”

FOO FIGHTERS STAR IN HORROR COMEDY, STUDIO 666, THEATRICAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 25th

Open Road Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Horror Comedy STUDIO 666, Starring Foo Fighters

Wide Domestic Theatrical Release set for February 25, 2022

Open Road Films has acquired worldwide rights to horror comedy STUDIO 666, starring Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett & Rami Jaffee. The all-star cast also includes Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin. The film, directed by BJ McDonnell, is set for a wide domestic theatrical release in 2,000+ theatres on February 25, 2022. The film’s international release date will be announced soon.

The announcement was made by Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg and Foo Fighters.

In STUDIO 666, the legendary rock band Foo Fighters move into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated 10th album.  Once in the house, Dave Grohl finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band.

“After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, it was finally time to take it to the next level… A full length feature horror comedy film,” said Dave Grohl. “Like most things Foo, STUDIO 666 began with a far fetched idea that blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined possible. Filmed at the same house where we recorded our latest album “Medicine at Midnight” (told you that place was haunted!) we wanted to recapture the classic magic that all of our favorite rock and roll movies had, but with a twist: hilarious gore that fucking ROCKS. And now, with the help of Tom Ortenberg and the team at Open Road Films we can finally let this cat out of the bag after keeping it our best kept secret for two years. Be ready to laugh, scream, and headbang in your popcorn. STUDIO 666 will fuck you up.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to team up with Foo Fighters for a movie sure to make audiences scream and laugh,” said Ortenberg. “The Foos bring their comedic chemistry and the musical talent we all love to the big screen in this hysterical horror film.”

Commented director BJ McDonnell: “STUDIO 666 is a perfect combination of all things I love. Rock, horror, and comedy all tied together in a very thrilling motion picture. I am so excited to have teamed up with the Foo Fighters to create an old school “Band” movie. It’s been years since we’ve seen something like the Beatles “Help!”, The Monkees “Head”, or “KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park”. Take that 60’s / 70’s old school band film fun, mix it with horror and STUDIO 666 is born! I am so ecstatic for audiences of film and music to come together and enjoy our film.”

“Over the past decade we have had the good fortune to collaborate with Foo Fighters on a variety of great projects,” said producers John Ramsay and James A. Rota. “Whether it be documentary films, TV series or music videos, they always bring their great talents and legendary sense of humor. STUDIO 666 takes this to a whole new level and we couldn’t be more proud of this movie. We can’t wait to share it with the world.

Based on a story by Dave Grohl and screenplay by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes, STUDIO 666 is produced by Roswell Films’ and Therapy Studios’ John Ramsay & James A. Rota. Executive Producers are John Silva, Kristen Welsh, John Cutcliffe, Gaby Skolnek, Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee, James Masciello, Matthew Sidari, Mitchell Zhang and Tom Ortenberg.

The deal was negotiated by Tom Ortenberg and Matthew Sidari on behalf of Open Road Films and by WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers.

GORILLAZ: 20TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OUT 10th DECEMBER

GORILLAZ

20TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE

SUPER DELUXE VINYL BOXSET
OUT 10th DECEMBER

SONG MACHINE LIVE
COMING TO CINEMAS GLOBALLY ON 8th DECEMBER

http://songmachineliveincinemas.com

It is now 20 years since Gorillaz’ eponymous debut album was released and this event weirdly coincides with the announcement today by the Department of Music Correction of previously sensitive documents being de-classified and made available, causing an uncovering of early demos and rarities from the world’s most successful penciled troubadours.

Back then, 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs and guitar prodigy Noodle burst onto the global stage (with the help of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett) following a collision of mishaps, meetings and pure luck to blow up a pre-digital world with their colorful backstory and ground-breaking virtual ways.

And now, Gorillaz (20th Anniversary Super Deluxe Vinyl Boxset) collects together the previously unknown 27-page DMC dossier of leaked documents, memos, faxes and some early Jamie Hewlett drawings (assumed lost in a fire), complete with an 8-disc vinyl set, for a very special super deluxe vinyl boxset of the album that started it all. A limited run First Edition will be released on 10th December 2021, ahead of a wider drop coming next Autumn. Pre-order First Edition here.

This special birthday feast comprises over four hours of music including the never-before-released Demoz, favorites G-Sides, Laika Come Home (first time on vinyl), the never released Live At The Forum, 2001, and of course Gorillaz which famously brought us Clint Eastwood (ft Del the Funky Homosapien),19-2000, and Tomorrow Comes Today.

Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs said – “Whistles have been blown. Truths have come to light. What started out as a trip down memory lane took a damn sideways turn into the heart of darkness. They say the past is another country. Turns out, it’s a whole other dimension.”

Gorillaz are coming to the big screen for one day only on Wednesday 8th December! The band’s acclaimed live show, the glorious, star studded virtual experience SONG MACHINE LIVE, captured at the band’s Kong Studios HQ in London in December 2020 will come to cinemas globally via Trafalgar Releasing, along with the cinema-exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, ‘Live Inside From Kong’ with unseen interview footage and commentary from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Details here.

Also announced today, the latest collaboration from Gorillaz and vinyl toy brand Superplastic, two limited edition toy drops The Gorillaz Spacesuit Set, a series of 12-inch vinyl toys which feature all four members of the band in day-glow moon landing outfits; and an exclusive Gorillaz Mini Blind Box series created in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary, available to pre-order from 18th November.

Frontman 2D said – “Alright guys have a look at these new Superplastic spacesuit sets. They are well lifelike, it’s like looking in a really small mirror! Check ‘em out, yeah.”

This December, explore the whole new Christmas themed Gorillaz store featuring all of the band’s festive favorites. Available from today at here.

JENNY LEWIS: “PUPPY AND A TRUCK” BRAND NEW SONG AVAILABLE NOW

JENNY LEWIS
“PUPPY AND A TRUCK”

BRAND NEW SONG
AVAILABLE NOW VIA LOVES WAY

As if supporting Harry Styles every night of his Love on Tour, and releasing four collaborative tracks with Serengeti over the last year wasn’t enough, Jenny Lewis has found yet another way to help us shake off our collective 2021 blues: The brand new “Puppy and a Truck,” out today and available via Loves Way.

Written by Jenny and produced by Dave Cobb, “Puppy and a Truck” is an ode to letting go of negativity and focusing on life’s simple joys. With wistful swells of pedal steel and irresistibly buoyant percussion, the track offers a few words of advice for these upside-down times:

My 40s are kicking my ass
And handing em to me in a margarita glass….
Like a shot of good luck
I got a puppy and a truck
If you feel like giving up
Shut up
Get a puppy and a truck

And speaking of Love on Tour, those who have been fortunate to catch Jenny opening for Harry Styles may already be familiar with “Puppy and a Truck,” as it’s quickly become an instant favorite of Jenny’s current live set:

While some people imploded in the lockdowns and isolation of the epidemic, others were thriving. “I felt like I’d been in training for this my whole life” says J Spaceman.

He was referring to his fondness for isolation and when you reframe loneliness as “beautiful solitude” then it isn’t so bad. He would walk through an empty “Roman London” where “even the sirens had stopped singing” and where the world was “full of birdsong and strangeness and no contrails.” He used the birdsong walks to listen and try and make sense of all the music playing in his head. The mixes of his new record, a ninth studio album, weren’t working out yet.

Spaceman plays 16 different instruments on Everything Was Beautiful which was put down at 11 different studios, as well as at his home. He also employed more than 30 musicians and singers including his daughter Poppy, long-time collaborator and friend John Coxon, string and brass sections, choirs and finger bells and chimes from the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. So there’s a lot going on.

“There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance it, but going around in circles is important to me. Not like you’re spiraling out of control but you’re going around and around and on each revolution you hold onto the good each time. Sure, you get mistakes as well, but you hold on to some of those too and that’s how you kind of… achieve. Well, you get there.”

Eventually, the mixes got there and Everything Was Beautiful was achieved. The result is some of the most “live” sounding recordings that Spiritualized have released since the Live At The Albert Hall record of 1998, around the time of Ladies & Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space.

The opening track “Always Together With You” is a reworking / supercharging of a track originally released in demo quality in 2014. This new version is a perfect Spiritualized song; a breathtaking, hard edged, psychedelic pop tune where themes of high romance and space travel collide.

The artwork is designed once again with Mark Farrow. If you buy the vinyl you can pop a pill box out of the sleeve, revealing gold foil underneath, and assemble the Braille-embossed little thing and put it somewhere in the house. The box set has 8 of them. Literally a boxset. It looks more beautiful in the flesh. “Farrow and I were talking about what we should do and we just said, ‘It’s called Everything Is Beautiful, how could you not have a pill?’” All these layers, all these details, the year-long mixes, the making sense of it all and the lives lived within these lyrics; for somebody so famously unconfident of his own abilities, isn’t this a punishing thing to keep doing? “Yeah, but I like what I do. There’s a line from Jonathan Meades that’s about having all the attributes to being an artist. ‘Paranoia, vanity, selfishness, egotism, sycophancy, resentment, moral nullity and more idiot than idiot savant.’ “And that’s what it feels like, this kind of thing. You’re your own worst enemy and biggest supporter. “There’s a ‘Of course this is worth it. It’s me’ and then this kind of deep doubt of ‘What the fuck is this all about?’ “And then ‘Why is it important?’ and then knowing there’s no easy answer. But it’s there. I know it’s there.”

Radiohead have today revealed their previously unreleased song Follow Me Around and its accompanying video, directed by Us (The Rolling Stones, Harry Styles, Hozier) and featuring Guy Pearce (‘Memento’, ‘L.A. Confidential’, ‘Mare of Easttown’). Follow Me Around dates back to the 1997 O.K. COMPUTER era, where it was often performed at soundchecks on the tour, quickly becoming a fan favorite. The band have occasionally posted different pieces of the song’s lyrics on their website, linking it to other songs, including Kid A and Where I End and You Begin. Some of the lyrics to Follow Me Aroundalso appear in the hidden booklet to KID A.

The first (and only) somewhat official recording of the song appears in the 1998 documentary Meeting People is Easy, where the band performed it at a soundcheck in Fukuoka, Japan. Follow Me Around made its proper live debut at a Toronto concert in October 2000, when Thom performed the song acoustically, after fans campaigned for it to be played live on the Radiohead fan site followmearound.com.

Follow Me Around is taken from KID A MNESIA, which collects Radiohead’s fourth and fifth albums, alongside the debut of a newly compiled third disc, titled KID AMNESIAE. Exclusive to this release, KID AMNESIAE is made up of unearthed material from the KID A / AMNESIAC sessions.
