THE SMILE: NEW SINGLE “BENDING HECTIC” OUT NOW

THE SMILE RELEASE NEW SINGLE “BENDING HECTIC”

OUT NOW VIA XL RECORDINGS

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF TOMORROW WITH FIRST EVER SHOW IN MEXICO CITY

The Smile – Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner – today release a brand new single, “Bending Hectic”. Listen HERE

Produced by Sam Petts-Davies and with strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra, the standalone single was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London earlier this year. It was first debuted by The Smile during their Montreux Jazz Festival appearance in 2022 and, while not included on the subsequent live album The Smile (Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, July 2022), it became a word-of-mouth phenomenon, with fans and critics calling for its release. After a year of waiting, “Bending Hectic” gets a global digital release today via XL Recordings.

The single marks The Smile’s first piece of new music in 2023. It follows the band’s acclaimed 2022 debut album, A Light For Attracting Attention which was named amongst the Best Albums of 2022 by Pitchfork, Uncut, MOJO, Rough Trade, Billboard, New York Times, Consequence and many more.

Tomorrow, the band embark on an extensive tour of North America. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner will kick off the 16-date excursion on Wednesday June 21st with their first-ever performance in Mexico City. After two nights, they will then go on to the United States and Canada, marking The Smile’s debut live performances in every city they play — with the exception of New York where they’ll return to headline Forest Hills Stadium on July 7th. For more information or to buy tickets, head to www.thesmiletheband.com. Following the tour, the band will return to the studio to continue working on new material.

“Proves the group’s enduring power with plenty of electrifying moments.” —THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

“Only one band can make fonts sound cool and that’s Queens of the Stone Age” —ASSOCIATED PRESS

“Direct and hard-rocking…Homme’s songwriting has grown increasingly personal and vulnerable. Never more so than now.” –REVOLVER

Queens of the Stone Age continue “Giving fans something to look forward to” (UPROXX) with the final advance offering from In Times New Roman… ahead of its highly anticipated eighth album out this Friday, June 16th on Matador Records. This pre-release gift comes in the form of “Paper Machete,” an instantly identifiable QOTSA future classic, sure to resound with casual fans and die hards alike. Lyrically, “Paper Machete” finds Josh Homme’s trademark rapier wit at its most acerbic. If the previously released “Carnavoyeur” signaled resignation and acceptance, “Paper Machete” is the collision of sheer, raw force that gets you there– “like electricity conveyed through the bristles of a paintbrush” (WALL STREET JOURNAL).

“Thematically, ‘Carnavoyeur’ seems to reckon with life’s natural ebbs and flows, finding power in accepting the things that can’t be changed: ‘When there’s nothing I can do, I smile,’ vocalist Josh Homme sings in a darkly sweet croon, sounding equal parts sinister and restrained as he watches the world around him turn to dust,” says CONSEQUENCE, an apt description of the song as much as it is for the just-released Liam Lynch-created/directed video.

For more on the making of In Times New Roman…, tune in to Zane Lowe’s in-depth conversation with Josh today at 10am PST on Apple Music 1: apple.co/_Zane

FOO FIGHTERS: BUT HERE WE ARE, Top 10 Worldwide Chart Debut

FOO FIGHTERS
BUT HERE WE ARE
Top 10 Worldwide Chart Debut

“Rescued” from Preparing Music For Concerts Video Live Now

Foo Fighters’ brand new 11th album, But Here We Are, unanimously hailed as one of the band’s strongest to date, has become its 10th album to break the Top 10 of the US Album Chart. But Here We Are also marks Foo Fighters’ sixth UK #1, ninth Australian #1, #1 spots in Switzerland and New Zealand, and Top 5 debuts in nearly a dozen more territories.

Released June 2 on Roswell Records/RCA Records, But Here We Are has landed at #8 in its first week on the Billboard 200, while entering at #1 on the Alternative and Hard Rock album sales charts. The new album’s Top 10 debut continues a trend that began with the back to back Top 10 positions achieved by The Colour and the Shape (1997) and There is Nothing Left to Lose (1999), and has since included the #1 charting Wasting Light (2011) and Concrete and Gold (2017), as well as the Top 3 placings of One by One (2002), In Your Honor (2005), Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007), Sonic Highways (2014) and Medicine at Midnight (2021).

Produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, But Here We Are has received the warmest of welcomes—from the capacity crowds singing along to every word of “Rescued” and “Under You” during the band’s current tour, to a still growing torrent of acclaim for the album and its songs including:

“A moving collection that balances raw emotion with the band’s signature determination to see the light through the darkness” —Billboard

“Explosive, emotional and inspired… Grohl’s melodies are as soaring and anthemic as they’ve sounded in years” —The New York Times

“A truly formidable rock record… so catchy and vibrant, so brimming with wild-eyed wonder. It’s heavy in every sense of the word, but make no mistake: It’ll still get stuck in your head for days… ‘Rescued’ and ‘Under You’ open But Here We Are with singles that seem to have emerged directly from an alternate-universe greatest hits package—they’re hard-driving career highlights that sound both timeless and utterly of the present” —NPR Music

“Dave Grohl gives himself over to arena-sized grief, reckoning, and resolve on the band’s most propulsive and purposeful music of the last two decades… offering earnest hope, find reminiscence, and skyscraping choruses… the most inspired Foo Fighters record in recent memory” —Pitchfork

“I’ll join my fellow critics in praising it as their best work since the late ‘90s… it deserves the accolades” —Uproxx

“Aching directness and wounded sweetness make a potent combination here” —Vulture

Following the recent announcement of stadium dates in Australia and New Zealand, Foo Fighters resume their ongoing tour in support of But Here We Are this week, including a headlining set at Bonnaroo this weekend. For a complete list of dates, go to: https://foofighters.com/tour-dates/

FOO FIGHTERS: BUT HERE WE ARE, New Album Out Today

FOO FIGHTERS
BUT HERE WE ARE
New Album Out Today on Roswell Records/RCA Records

“The Glass” Visualizer Live Now

Livestream Their Headline Performance Today at Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany
1:30p PT / 4:30p ET

Foo Fighters’ eagerly awaited, hard-fought and already universally acclaimed new album, But Here We Are, is released today, June 2, 2023, on Roswell Records/RCA Records.

A testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family, But Here We Are has been preceded by an ecstatically received quartet of its songs. These four songs have demonstrated dimensions of sound and emotion that hint at the range and depth of this phenomenal landmark in the Foo Fighters canon. First single “Rescued” with its “fresh sense of pathos and urgency” (The New York Times), “a gruff, melodic rocker with bittersweet hooks” (Stereogum) in “Under You,” the “totally unexpected foray into shoegaze and dream-pop territory” that was “Show Me How,” and the “powerful goodbyes” (SPIN) of the 10-minute “The Teacher” all blazed radically diverse yet equally cathartic sonic paths. Now with today’s revelation of the sublimely melodic “The Glass” (check out the visualizer HERE), and five more FF instant classics, But Here We Are is finally out in the world.

Produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, But Here We Are has received the warmest of welcomes—from the capacity crowds already signing along to every word of “Rescued” and “Under You” during the band’s triumphant return to the stage, to uniformly enthusiastic early critical reactions to the album and its songs including:

“A brilliant meditation on grief… the best Foo Fighters album since the turn of the millennium.” – Consequence

But Here We Are is a standout… quite possibly their best and most meaningful album.” — Goldmine

“Driven by a fresh sense of pathos and urgency.” – The New York Times

“Delivers everything fans have come to know and love about the Foos.” – Revolver

“One of the most powerful collection of songs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame outfit‘s lengthy catalog… But Here We Are is a life raft extended between band and audience alike.. Music has the power to heal, and this is a record for healing.” – Rock Cellar

“One of the strongest albums of the band’s career… reckoning with the conundrums of human existence through the sheer power of music.” – SPIN

“It’s what happens when loud, catchy, radio-friendly rock music is buoyed by tangible passion… The singles have been strong — ‘Rescued” a proper anthem, ‘Under You’ a Jawbreaker-esque power-pop gem… Foo Fighters’ sadness comes through, but the album is too fleet-footed to be maudlin or morose.” – Stereogum

“A record that channels grief into some of the biggest sounding songs Foo Fighters have ever made.” – Ultimate Classic Rock

“Memorable and meaningful” — USA Today

“This leap from the personal to the universal is the essence of Foo Fighters… confirms that Mr. Grohl’s instincts about how music can help us process and transcend even our darkest moments are absolutely correct… a powerful, melodic work of mourning.” – The Wall Street Journal

Live and Let Die celebrates 50th anniversary with new Dolby Atmos mix

Live and Let Die celebrates 50th anniversary with new Dolby Atmos mix

Mixed in Dolby Atmos by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard
Dolby Atmos mastered by Oli Morgan

50 years after its release, Live and Let Die is as relevant and powerful as it was in 1973. In the climax to his already legendary Glastonbury headline performance last summer, Paul signaled his set was drawing to a close, accompanied with dramatic pyrotechnics and towering walls of flame as he rocked Worthy Farm with Live and Let Die – chosen by many as one of the show’s literally dozens of standout moments – and underlining the song’s enduring impact on several generations.

Live and Let Die exploded onto the early 1970s scene, instantly becoming a defining moment in the soundtrack of the decade. The song is packed with characteristics of Paul McCartney’s adventurous songwriting that have come to define pop culture over the last 60 years: The soulful intro, the bombastic chorus, the hard rock riffage, the dynamic instrumentation, the reggae, the orchestra… and somehow it all fits perfectly into 3 minutes and 12 seconds.

Unlike many of his compositions, Live and Let Die was a commission: Paul was approached in 1972 to see if he might want to write a song for the upcoming James Bond film of the same name. Having held a secret ambition to write a Bond song, initially Paul was unsure that his song was in fact ‘Bondian’ enough and was worried how it might hold up to songs like Goldfinger and From Russia With Love. The song, which became an international smash hit single upon release, now regularly tops the “Best Bond Theme” polls each time a new Bond film comes along. The first Bond song to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, Live and Let Die also went on to win a Grammy Award in 1974.

Live and Let Die also carries the distinction of being Paul’s first post-Beatles track produced in full by George Martin. George was doing the music for the film and worked with Paul on the orchestral arrangements which Paul described as a “perfectly stated balance of grandiose, without being over the top.”

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Live and Let Die has been mixed in Dolby Atmos by Giles Martin (George’s son) and Steve Orchard. This special mix provides an immersive experience for the listener. Fans will hear the track in a completely new way – putting them right in the heart of the action and acting as a reminder as to why Live and Let Die has become a timeless and universally beloved classic.

Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event will see the band playing two nights with two completely different setlists, with songs from across the group’s 40+ year career, ranging from 1983’s debut Kill ‘Em All to 2023’s new release 72 Seasons. You won’t see the same song twice for a total of over 30 songs across both nights.

The M72 tour will feature a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed Metallica Snake Pit to center stage so that fans will have a complete 360 view of the show. With a state-of-the-art multi-camera set up, you will feel like you’re right in the middle of the action, no matter where you are in the world.

This is a two-night event. Get your tickets for both nights to enjoy the full experience.

Hailed as “some of the deepest, hardest-hitting music of their career” (Rolling Stone), Metallica’s 72 Seasons was released April 14 via the band’s own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with Hetfield and Ulrich, and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track 72 Seasons is Metallica’s first full length collection of new material since 2016’s Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. For album orders and further information, go to https://www.metallica.com/store/72-seasons/.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: “Carnavoyeur” Second Single From Upcoming New Album Out Now

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
“Carnavoyeur”
From the highly anticipated In Times New Roman… available now

We live, we die, we fail, we rise
I’m a vulture so I hear goodbyes
There’s no end to life
On & on…
Always life

Still reeling from the ecstatic reaction to the recently released “Emotion Sickness,” a triumphant return that “finds them at their sinister, bar-band-on-acid best” per New York Magazine,  Queens of the Stone Age now unveil “Carnavoyeur,” the latest offering from their epic eighth album, In Times New Roman…

In contrast to its predecessor,  “Carnavoyeur” finds QOTSA weaving more subtle shades of sinister: Mesmerizing washes of strings cascade atop the band’s trademark rock solid foundation, while Joshua Homme’s mellifluent vocals swaddle the listener with their warm and all too familiar tones of acceptance and resignation: “When there’s nothing I can do, I smile…” While the stunning, honeyed melodies of “Carnavoyeur” are undeniably, well, reallypretty, this is still Queens of the Stone Age, and there’s no shortage of viscera-rumbling drums and bass or spine-chilling guitar interplay.

“Carnavoyeur” must be heard to be believed. Listen to the song here and watch the lyric video here

In Times New Roman… will be available across all platforms on June 16th via Matador Records. On the eve of release fans are invited to ring in the album’s release at MIDNIGHT CLUB parties taking place at record shops and pubs across 23 countries.  The MIDNIGHT CLUB starts at 11pm June 15th and will feature giveaways, exclusive merch including limited edition colored vinyl, and—in a few select locations—signed merchandise and ticket giveaways. MIDNIGHT CLUB will provide the QOTSA faithful with a first chance to hear In Times New Roman… in its entirety, amongst friends, family and of course appropriate levels of bacchanalia.
