“Born Again” is a bouncy-yet-bittersweet hip-hop track inspired by redemption and overcoming adversity; the single follows the swaggering “Brooklyn Bazquiat” and is the title track of the duo’s second album.
Danger Mouse & Jemini’s Born Again album was recorded back in 2004, yet has remained unreleased for nearly two decades now. This previously unheard and long-delayed record will finally be made available tomorrow (25th August) via Lex Records. The release coincides with the twentieth anniversary of Danger Mouse & Jemini’s 2003 debut LP – and Danger Mouse’s first official release on a record label – hip-hop cult classic, Ghetto Pop Life.

GHOST DEVOTIONAL POP-UP Confess Your Sins at the GRAMMY Museum August 21 through September 17
As Ghost’s September 11-12 headline stand at the Kia Forum looms ever closer, the GRAMMY Museum® in Los Angeles has unveiled the Ghost Devotional Pop-Up. As the faithful await the return of Papa Emeritus IV and co. to the City of Angels, they are invited to enter the hand crafted, custom built confession booth and bare their souls about why they think Ghost are the best rock band in the world! Make amends and leave atoned, with a souvenir photo of the experience.
The Ghost Devotional Pop-Up was designed and fabricated by Justin Ware of Creativeware (Beastie Boys Exhibit at Orange County Museum of Art) and built by carpenter/welder Greg S. Gilday (The Mandalorian, Tenet, Westworld). The custom created structure will be accompanied by a museum installation displaying Papa Emeritus III’s outfit worn at the 2015 GRAMMYs® —the year Ghost took the Best Metal Performance award for “Cirice” from the band’s third album, Meliora.

Celebrated producer and musician Danger Mouse and talented New York rapper Jemini Have announced the long-delayed release of their Born Again album — recorded in 2004 but previously unheard until now — available to the public after 20 years in the vault on 25th August via Lex Records. Remarkably, the release comes nearly two decades after the album’s creation and coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the duo’s debut LP, hip-hop cult classic, Ghetto Pop Life.

Back in 2003, Danger Mouse and Jemini dropped their debut album, and Danger Mouse’s first official release on a record label, Ghetto Pop Life; a rap spectacular which quickly became widely-celebrated. As well as being one of the finest rap offerings of the era, Ghetto Pop Life foreshadowed Danger Mouse’s later triumphs including The Grey Album, his production work for Gorillaz and A$AP Rocky, and collaborations with CeeLo as Gnarls Barkley, MF DOOM for DANGERDOOM plus his most recent hip-hop offering, 2022’s Cheat Codes alongside Black Thought.
Soon after finishing Ghetto Pop Life, Danger Mouse and Jemini began to write and record their second album, Born Again. Having been indefinitely shelved, Born Again will now finally be released worldwide this August. The previously unheard record retains many of the elements of Danger Mouse and Jemini’s debut – most notably the fun-loving, sh*t-talking innocence – but also adopts a markedly more introspective and confessional tone. This time, in addition to lighthearted topics such as being an incredible artist, living large and being a magnet for attention, Jemini also delivers highly-personal and occasionally devastating lyrics about missed opportunities and redemption, his time in prison and complicated relationship with his father.

Today marks the debut episode of The Metallica Report, a new podcast offering weekly insider updates on all things Metallica. Broadcasting directly from the band’s Northern California headquarters, The Metallica Report will be hosted by two of the closest members of the Metallica family: Steffan Chirazi, whose history with Metallica spans from covering the band as journalist in the ‘80s to his current role as editor of the band’s online mag, So What!, and Renée Richardson, Director of Philanthropy for the band’s All Within My Hands foundation, and well-known Bay Area radio personality.
Each episode of The Metallica Report will feature Steffan and Renée keeping listeners informed with the latest news and updates from Metallica HQ, as well as dispatches from the road as the M72 Tour continues to make its way around the world. The Report’s mini-features will offer exclusive behind the scenes news and interviews with the likes of the touring crew, poster and T-shirt artists, fans, and even James, Lars, Kirk and Robert themselves.

Renée’s radio career began in the late 90s as Renée Rotten on KITS/LIVE 105, and a few years later, she rebranded as Renée Richardson and joined the KFOG Morning Show. Her 17 years as a “Foghead” were spent as an on-air announcer, music programmer, and she cultivated the Bay Area’s music scene as assistant producer of the KFOG Local Scene series. After an unexpected showing of the door by Cumulus Media in 2016, Renée prioritized philanthropy. The major workforce education initiative that Metallica’s All Within My Hands (AWMH) foundation launched in 2019 in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), is marking its fifth year with the addition of 11 new colleges to its existing 31-college roster, and an ambitious expansion into new programs. Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) now directly supports 42 community colleges across 33 states in the US to enhance their career and technical education programs. “With the launch of the fifth year of the program, we will now have supported well over 5,000 Metallica Scholars across workforce education. The Metallica Scholars Initiative is a strong and cooperative community of the nation’s best community colleges creating a supportive climate for participants to communicate directly and share best practices. As a result, our Metallica Scholars leave the program well-trained and confident. Ultimately the impact is felt in their local communities, and on the national scale, as Metallica Scholars enter the workforce and fill, or create, much needed workforce and technical positions.”

Beck and Phoenix will mark the kick-off of their hotly anticipated Summer Odyssey tour with the physical release of their collaborative sun-splashed banger, “Odyssey.” On August 1st, the same day they co-headline Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, the Beck and Phoenix collaborative single hailed by UPROXX as “an empowered, shimmering anthem” and by FLOOD as “a joyful slice of hedonistic disco-pop” will be released as a limited edition yellow vinyl 7-inch single featuring the newly digitally released “Odyssey (Instrumental)” on its B-side.

Three minutes and 47 seconds of sheer audio bliss, “Odyssey” is written, produced and performed by Beck and Phoenix, and mixed by Serban Ghenea. Beck and Thomas Mars nimbly trade lead vocals on the song’s verses, with the full cast joining to create the irresistible earworms of its choruses and each “Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah” singalong refrain. Less than 6 months since Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree first came back together at Damon’s studio in West London to discuss the possibility of recording a new blur album, the band’s highly-anticipated new studio album The Ballad of Darren is released today on Parlophone/Warner. The Ballad of Darren is blur’s ninth studio album – their first in 8 years and produced by James Ford – comprising 10 new tracks recorded at Studio 13 in London and Devon in spring this year. The May 18th album announcement came as a huge surprise to fans, coinciding with a tiny yet epic show at Colchester Arts Centre and the release of a brand new track ‘The Narcissist’, as well as the reveal of an already iconic album cover featuring an image by celebrated British photographer Martin Parr CBE which has put Scotland’s Gourock Outdoor Pool well and truly on the map.
The release of The Ballad of Darren follows a triumphant weekend of music and joy at Wembley Stadium on July 8th and 9th, two extraordinary and hugely emotional shows which captured “…a sense of momentousness [Financial Times ★★★★★]” and “…fizzed with the vibrant energy of a band in their prime [Evening Standard ★★★★★].
Next week sees the band back on stage in London for something completely different: a very special global performance of the new album, live streamed via Driift from London’s Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith on Tuesday July 25th 2023 at 9pm BST. Titled ‘blur present The Ballad of Darren’, the performance will be the first and only time the band will play the complete album live from start to finish, allowing fans around the world to experience the new record together as part of an intimate one-off music event.
