TOKYO POLICE CLUB ANNOUNCES FALL SHOWS IN NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES

COVER OF RENTALS SONG “FRIENDS OF P” MADE AVAILABLE IN SUPPORT OF LUPUS RESEARCH

Although Tokyo Police Club is already embarked on a summer itinerary that includes Denmark, Japan, and Australia, the band has begun plotting a fall return to the US. In addition to previously announced appearances at the Monolith and Treasure Island Festivals in September, the band will headline the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on September 18th, and New York’s Webster Hall on October 18th.

The band’s incessant touring is in support of their debut full length album Elephant Shell, which was released earlier this year by Saddle Creek Records. Elle called the album “a smart, furiously played, sugar-rush debut that sounds like it was inspired by Red Bull benders and unrequited love.” The Los Angeles Times seconded that emotion, describing the album as “like being in love for the first time, in musical form – that kind of rush.” Men’s Health also weighed in, calling Elephant Shell “an aural adrenaline rush, all the way.”

Finally, the band is teaming with the Lupus Foundation Of America to raise money for continued research of lupus, an incurable disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans. Tokyo Police Club’s cover of The Rentals’ song “Friends Of P” is streaming (and available for download if you’re clever) at FriendsOfP.org, where visitors can make donations and possibly receive a limited-edition Friends Of P tote bag.

BECK: MODERN GUILT

RELEASE DATE AND TRACK LISTING CONFIRMED FOR NEW ALBUM

Beck’s new album Modern Guilt, produced with Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton, will be released July 8th on DGC Records in North America and July 7 on XL Recordings in the UK and Europe.

The new album contains 10 new songs, and with the exception of last year’s Grammy-nominated, digital-only single “Timebomb”, Modern Guilt is the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005’s platinum Guero and 2006’s universally acclaimed The Information.

Modern Guilt is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off the cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor. 165,000 tickets sold, more than four hours of music, and one encore with half of Led Zeppelin later, Foo Fighters have wrapped their biggest ever headline shows: two sold out nights at Wembley Stadium.

The Wembley concerts, which took place last Friday and Saturday June 6th and 7th, sold out within 24 hours, making them the biggest headline performances of the band’s illustrious career–as well as the biggest rock shows staged at the new Wembley to date.

Both nights featured career-spanning 2-hour-plus sets drawing on all six of Foo Fighters’ studio albums, as well as an intimate mid-set acoustic section featuring the expanded semi-acoustic Foo configuration playing on a rotating stage. The highlight of the second night’s encore was a historic appearance from Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, who joined Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins for renditions of “Rock and Roll” (with Hawkins on vocals and Grohl on drums) and “Ramble On” (with Grohl on vocals and Hawkins on drums). The Wembley weekend closed with a final encore of “Best Of You” with a closing chorus of 85,000 fans leaving Grohl visibly moved.

Early on in the evening’s festivities, Grohl asked the crowd “How did this band get so f***ing big?” By the close of the weekend, 165,000 people knew the answer.

All this globetrotting follows appearances on both The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in support of their latest album Chase This Light, and the band continues to thrill with their live show, which the Boston Globe recently called “forceful, galvanizing, and exhilarating.”

BECK TO RELEASE NEW ABUM THIS SUMMER

BECK
DANGER MOUSE-PRODUCED NEW ALBUM OUT THIS SUMMER
SEPTEMBER 20 HOLLYWOOD BOWL SHOW WITH SPECIAL GUESTS SPOON & MGMT ON SALE MAY 10th

Beck has recorded a new album, produced with Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton, to be released this summer. The as yet untitled album contains 10 new songs.

Having met a few years ago, Beck and Danger Mouse had planned to work together at some point, finally convening last December to do a few songs. Encouraged by the results, they decided to make an entire record and over the next few months recorded extensively, with the goal of using only 10 pieces in the end.

The result is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off the cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor. Musically, the album’s ten tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism, while consistently manifesting Beck and Danger Mouse’s shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism and orchestration.

The album’s diversity of tone is belied by an emphasis on songwriting and musical concision, with the album clocking in at a little over 30 minutes.

The album represents the first new Beck music since last year’s Grammy-nominated digital single “Timebomb.” The new songs also mark the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005’s platinum Guero and 2006’s universally acclaimed The Information.

On the live front, Beck will play his biggest hometown headline show to date September 20 at the Hollywood Bowl. The bill will also feature special guests Spoon and MGMT and is the first headline date announced on a U.S. itinerary that so far includes the Austin City Limits, Outside Lands and Bumbershoot festivals.

For more information on Beck’s new album and scheduled concert appearances, please contact Steve Martin or Eliot Wadsworth at Nasty Little Man.

NINE INCH NAILS THE SLIP – FIRST EVER COMPLETELY FREE FULL ALBUM DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE NOW AT NIN.COM

Trent Reznor to Fans: “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years. This one’s on me.”

As of 12:01 a.m. PST May 5, Nine Inch Nails’ brand new full length album The Slip is available as free download at NIN.com.

Unlike NIN’s recently released Ghosts I-IV, there are NO paid options available for The Slip, nor are there any retail partners. At present, The Slip is available exclusively as a free download at NIN.com. A physical configuration on CD and vinyl is in the works for a July release.

The Slip marks the first time Nine Inch Nails–or any artist of NIN’s stature–has made its new album available completely and exclusively for free as a DRM-free digital download. The Slip is available as a high-quality MP3 or in a variety of lossless formats including, for the first time, a higher-than-CD quality 24 bit 96k version. All downloads include a PDF with credits and artwork.

Like the free single “Discipline” released last week to terrestrial radio stations and their websites and the track “Echoplex” appearing on iLike, The Slip is a classic straightforward NIN album, featuring Trent Reznor on vocals and various instruments as well as Josh Freese, Robin Finck and Alessandro Cortini. The record was produced by Reznor, Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder. Art direction by Rob Sheridan.

As with previous Nine Inch Nails releases Year Zero and Ghosts I-IV, the complete multi-track files to The Slip will be available free at launch, allowing anyone who wants to create his or her own remixes and reinterpretations of the songs. As always, the Remix.NIN.com community will provide a sire and infrastructure for fans to upload, share, stream and download these various remixes as well as the original masters, all free of charge or restrictions.

The Slip, like Ghosts I-IV, is being released under a Creative Commons license, allowing fans to distribute the songs and files freely and without fear of copyright infringement. More details regarding this license can be found at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/
