THE SHINS & SPOON: Together for Four Nights Only

THE SHINS with very special guest SPOON
 Together for Four Nights Only
Tickets On Sale Friday, April 14 at 10am Local Time

Hot off the back to back release of two of the most acclaimed albums of the year—The Shins’ Heartworms (Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records) and Spoon’s Hot Thoughts (Matador)—two pioneering acts whose singular styles defined the sounds of the early aughts and mid-90s respectively will join forces for four once-in-a-lifetime dates.
The Shins and Spoon bill will hit the following cities on the following dates:
Sept. 30 – Berkeley CA – Greek Theater
Oct. 1 – San Diego CA – Cal Coast Credit Union (OAT)
Oct. 3 – Phoenix AZ – Comerica Theater
Oct. 5 – Denver CO – Red Rocks Amphitheater
Tickets will be on sale to the public beginning Friday, April 14 at 10am local time.
Produced by James Mercer, The Shins’ fifth album, Heartworms, was released March 10 to a wave of critical acclaim: Entertainment Weekly called Heartworms the “band’s boldest album yet” and “a rewarding and singular addition to the Shins’ catalog,” Rolling Stone lauded its “home-brewed feel, heavy on Beach Boys grandeur, New Wave kicks, squiggly synth-pop and warm-weather soft rock – with lyrics tenderly balanced between midlife malaise and youthful romanticism. The result is some of the most charming music he’s ever made,” while Time magazine opined “Heartworms works on a grander scale, with ornate sonic tableaux.” Mercer and crew celebrated the release of Heartworms by launching a competition to win the band’s original touring vehicle, the same sweet 1990 Ford 350 Clubwagon in which they gave Stephen Colbert a ride during their week of release Late Show appearance.  To date, 100+ aspiring artists have entered #ShinsVanContest, each submitting a cover version of one of Heartworms’ instant classics. To enter, visit theshins.com/van and submit a video of you or your band covering a track from Heartworms using the hashtag #ShinsVanContest.
Spoon’s ninth album and fourth in a row to crack the U.S. Top 10, Hot Thoughts, landed the following week to yet another cavalcade of critical ecstasy: Rolling Stone awarding it a 4-star rating, New York magazine hailing Spoon as “incapable of releasing a bad record” and Entertainment Weekly agreeing the band “couldn’t make a bad record if they tried,” while The Ringer cited “a case to be made for Spoon being the greatest rock band of the 21st century.”  Spoon commemorated Hot Thoughts’ release week with a trio of shows in their hometown of Austin TX that were the talk of this year’s SXSW festival. The band managed to sneak a film crew past the fire marshalls fighting back the droves at the jam packed SXSW gigs, and the resultant video for the album’s “fascinating” (Stereogum) “scorcher” (Vulture) of a title track captures Spoon in all its raw power and glory. See the “Hot Thoughts” video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrLVAQYfeZ4&feature=youtu.be. These four shows with The Shins are sure to be highlights of an ongoing world tour taking Hot Thoughts‘ “after-dark explorations undertaken in thrilling ways” (Time Magazine) to all corners of the globe, as the new album has achieved the highest chart positions of the band’s 20+ year career in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Portugal, Austria and Switzerland.

“a punk-hardcore whirlwind of frantic virtuosity, torrential verbiage and barely sublimated fury…with whipsawing momentum: wild, precise, aggressive and smart.”—NEW YORK TIMES

“It was a celebration… to see At the Drive In is to watch Bixler hold court… a true showman”—VULTURE

“half-concert, half-religious experience”—AUSTIN360

“brilliant… fans roared with delight.”—AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“a SXSW phenomenon…we were privileged to see it all unfold.”—HOUSTON PRESS

“high-octane punk dominance”—GOTHAMIST

“the wait has certainly been worth it… they’re finally back to form, sweating it out on the stage like the… legends they are”—CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

Fresh off a triumphant handful of US dates—including a surprise pop-up performance that was the talk of SXSW and a run of make-up dates including the euphoric sweat drenched NYC frenzy described above, At The Drive In has unleashed “Hostage Stamps,” the third single from the highly anticipated new album in • ter a • li • a, out May 5th on Rise Records. Listen now: iTunes / Spotify

Cedric Bixler-Zavala describes the song as “like walking through the hallway in some war-torn ghetto and reading the writing on the wall. When you hear things like, ‘Raise your nithing pole,’ I don’t think anyone will know what that is right away, but when you look it up, it’s this curse. We are going to be victorious. Here’s the fucking head on the stake in front of our army. We’re coming back. It’s reading the writing on the wall. It’s going and keeping your ear to the ground and listening to the heartbeat of young people.”

Expanding on that theme, the band has unveiled an ominous new video directed by Rob Shaw and Damon Locks (who also designed the characters and set) to accompany the single’s release. Using a mix of stop-motion as well as digital animation, the video depicts faceless militaristic figures holding a man captive, as billboards bearing ominous messages flash in and out of view. The final scene is an eruption of chaos as the prisoner sets off an explosion. Watch here: https://youtu.be/JoNJ6AQhmFY

Directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford), One More Time With Feeling is a stark, fragile and raw documentary. Shot in 3D, colour and black & white, this visually unique film probes the deeply personal circumstances surrounding the making of Skeleton Tree (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ 16th studio album) and features live-in-studio performances by the band.

Originally conceived as a one-night-only screening event in 950 cinemas (across 30 countries simultaneously) on 8th September last year, this extraordinary film has now screened over 1700 times at over 1000 cinemas world-wide, and its initial run was extended over several days as cinemas sold out around the world.

One More Time With Feeling is the first ever non-animated B&W film shot in 3D. On 31st March 2017, this filmic milestone will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and a Limited Edition 3D Blu-ray. All formats of One More Time With Feeling come as two-disc editions, with additional previously unseen footage.

Skeleton Tree, the 16th studio album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, was released on 9th September 2016, the day after the global premiere of One More Time With Feeling. Skeleton Tree charted at number 1 in 8 countries, has been certified Silver in the UK (BPI), and, according to Metacritic, was the best-reviewed album of 2016.

Recently nominated for a 2017 BRIT Award, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds remain one of the most critically extolled acts working today and have sold over 5 million albums worldwide. Their influence has been profound and far-reaching and they are one of the most powerful and exciting live acts in the world.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ eight piece touring line up features Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, Thomas Wydler, Jim Sclavunos, Conway Savage, George Vjestica and Larry Mullins.

HOT THOUGHTS ENTERS THE U.S. ALBUMS CHART AT #9

HITS CAREER HIGH CHART POSITIONS IN EIGHT COUNTRIES

WORLD TOUR RESUMES APRIL 27

“These are after-dark explorations undertaken in thrilling ways”—TIME

“Hot Thoughts swings, in the raw guitar-centric tradition of the Rolling Stones. A carefully sequenced descent into a subterranean disco populated by ghosts and phantoms.” – THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“All strut and energy, and the effect is magnetic”—BUST

Spoon album number nine has entered the U.S. album chart at… number nine.

Released March 17 on Matador Records, Hot Thoughts continues the streak of top 10 charting Spoon records that began in 2007 with Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and has continued through Transference (2010) and They Want My Soul (2014) up to the present.

In other Spoon news, Hot Thoughts’ international reception marks the highest chart positions of the band’s 20+ year career in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Portugal, Austria and Switzerland.

Following on Spoon’s ecstatically received hometown three-fer at this year’s SXSW and a subsequent Australian jaunt, the band will resume the Hot Thoughts world tour April 27 in Mobile, AL.

RADIOHEAD

CONFIRM DUDU TASSA & THE KUWAITIS AS U.S. SUPPORT

Radiohead has confirmed Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis as support on all of the band’s forthcoming US headline dates, which begin March 30 in Miami.

Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis are a cross-cultural joint Jewish-Arabic project that revives the music of the Al-Kuwaiti Brothers–composers of some of the most popular Iraqi songs from the early 20th century. Further information and music can be found at https://www.reverbnation.com/dudutassathekuwaitis.

Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood previously collaborated with Dudu Tassa on the latter’s track “Eize Yom” in 2009.

In addition to the U.S. tour, Radiohead will also be supported by Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis in the latter’s home country of Israel, at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv on July 19th.

DANZIG: NEW ALBUM BLACK LADEN CROWN OUT MID-MAY

DANZIG

BLACK LADEN CROWN

FIRST ALBUM OF ALL NEW MATERIAL IN 7 YEARS

OUT MID-MAY ON EVILIVE RECORDS/NUCLEAR BLAST ENTERTAINMENT

Blackest Of The Black Festival Headline Appearance May 27th

Following on his historic reunion with the classic Misfits lineup attended by record numbers at last year’s Riot Fest in Denver and Chicago as well as the recent confirmation of a headlining set at this year’s Blackest Of The Black festival… Glenn Danzig has now confirmed the title and release date of first Danzig album of all new material since 2010’s widely acclaimed DETH RED SABAOTH:

BLACK LADEN CROWN, 50 minutes of long awaited brand new Danzig music, will be released mid-May on Evilive Records /Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

The details of BLACK LADEN CROWN follow on the announcement of Danzig’s Blackest of the Black Festival:  Two days of non-stop music and mayhem taking place at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA on May 26th and 27th. Danzig will close the festivities May 27th, headlining a bill featuring more than 20 artists playing amidst a full scale takeover and transformation of the park grounds featuring literally dozens of attractions, vendors, performers, and other surprises musical and otherwise.

Blackest Of The Black promises to create a site-wide atmosphere like no festival before or since. A full rundown of performers and attractions will be announced shortly. Check www.BlackestFest.com for tickets, news, and further details as they are confirmed.

Additionally, this summer marks the 25th Anniversary of  the classic DANZIG III: HOW THE GODS KILL. Produced by Danzig himself and featuring the unforgettable cover adorned by H.R. Giger’s Meister und Margeritha (The Master and Margarita), HOW THE GODS KILL was the first DANZIG album to crack Billboard’s Top 30 and inspired Rolling Stone to rave in its review at the time, Rock is alarmingly short of visionaries these days; Danzig is the genuine article.”

Danzig will be performing a limited number of shows this summer, commemorating the occasion with live performances of numerous songs from HOW THE GODS KILL.
