2018 VILLAINS NORTH AMERICA TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

TICKETS ON SALE OCTOBER 27

Photo: Andreas Neumann

Having lain waste to grateful capacity crowds from Chicago’s Riot Fest to Denver’s Red Rocks to the 30,000+ strong throng at the recent CalJam 17—and with a first ever headline engagement at New York’s Madison Square Garden barely a week away—Queens Of The Stone Age announce the first 2018 installment of the ongoing and ever intensifying Villains North American touring campaign.

The new dates, which begin January 22, 2018 in Victoria BC and include headline stops at The Forum in Los Angeles and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, will be on sale from October 27.

The 2018 shows are announced in the wake of every North American date on the current run having sold out while generating the most ecstatic responses of the Queens’ touring history, with recent raves including:

“Queens can go dark and sinister with the best arena-rock bands of the last two decades.”—CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Awesome… while Villains under Ronson’s guidance brings out the dance-floor undertones from the group, Queens is still a band that rocks hard, evident at its intense Milwaukee show Sunday for a sold-out crowd”—MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

“A thing of beauty… a wonderfully ugly, gnarly, twisted batch of songs that offered equal parts release and rejoicing for the sold-out, cramped-but-lively crowd”—MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

“Immense power… Very few bands can put the hammer down so heavy while getting so ethereal on the top”—PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE

Produced by Mark Ronson and Queens Of The Stone Age, Villains was released August 25 on Matador Records. The album debuted at #1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and Portugal, #2 in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Norway and Ireland, #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the U.S. album chart, #4 on Japan’s international chart and #5 in Italy—easily the single biggest global sales week of the Queens’ seven album stretch. Villains’ first seven days in existence also saw nearly 100,000 vinyl albums moved worldwide, as the record became the #1 selling vinyl LP in the UK, U.S. and Germany. Villains also took the U.S. #1 spots on the Alternative, Hard, Rock, Internet and Independent Label Album charts and #2 on the Digital Album sales chart.

Queens Of The Stone Age are Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore.

“You just can’t rush greatness… a euphoric blast… Every Colors song is punctuated by Beck’s immense gratitude to still be making music”—USA TODAY

“Shiny and hooky… a cache of reverberant megadome stompers that will serve him well for many a festival season to come.”—VANITY FAIR

“Colors is a great party record.”—MC HAMMER

Already being hailed in early reviews as “a euphoric blast of experimental pop” (ROLLING STONE) and “yet another milestone in his fascinating and unpredictable career” (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL), Beck’s lucky 13th album Colors is released today on Capitol Records.

The album’s release is accompanied by the “Colors” slime visualizer—a multicolor visual expression of the title track/mission statement of the album: a kaleidoscopic palette of sonic shapes and moods, conjuring mental rainbows while tempos, rhythms, melodies, even volume levels shift to near collapse, before locking together into undeniable hooks that defy their underlying complexity.

Colors’ release was preceded most recently by the buoyant “Up All Night”—check out Beck performing it on Later… with Jools Holland earlier this week —the current single from Beck’s first full length offering of new material since 2014’s Morning Phase took Album of the Year top honors at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Colors was produced by Greg Kurstin and Beck, with the exception of “Wow” produced by Beck and Cole M.G.N., and “Fix Me” produced by Beck. The album was mixed by Serban Ghenea, except “Dreams” and “Up All Night,” which were mixed by Greg Kurstin and Beck.

Colors‘ release weekend will also be commemorated with one-time-only dedicated pop-up stores featuring exclusive merchandise, music and more. The Colors pop-up store locations and times are as follows:

Saturday October 14:

New York – Brooklyn Flea, Soho – 10am to 6pm

Sunday October 15:

Los Angeles – Melrose Trading Post – 9am to 5pm
Seattle – Fremont Market – 10am to 4pm
Chicago – Vintage Garage – 10am to 5pm
New York – Brooklyn Flea, Dumbo – 10am to 6pm

For more info, follow along at http://twitter.com/beckpopups.

Beck will kick off the first full week following Colors’ release with a return to The Ellen Degeneres Show on October 17 followed by a newly announced October 18 show at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Tickets will be on sale from October 14. Check Beck.com for further information.

The sold out Gorillaz show at the Forum continues the Humanz tour that began its sold-out North American run July 8 in Chicago. The tour has played Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Detroit, St. Paul, Kansas City, Denver, Las Vegas and more to the largest and most enthusiastic U.S. crowds Gorillaz has seen to date—and critical response has been equally enthusiastic:

“An overwhelming pop spectacle, with Damon Albarn’s steady presence to keep the audience focused”—ROLLING STONE

“The guests came fast and furious… but despite the frontman’s oft-stated wishes to increasingly blur into the group’s background as they evolve – last night was still unquestionably Damon’s show, as both star and director, and it ended as a smashing success for fans of all ages.”–BILLBOARD

“The ultimate triumph was Albarn’s — a multiculti, multigenre musical journey that touched on hip-hop, funk, Chicago house and gospel.”—CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Gorillaz may be a ‘virtual’ band comprised of cartoon characters drawn by Tank Girl co-creator Jamie Hewlett. But its flesh-and-blood incarnation, led by Damon Albarn, is a force to be reckoned with — which the group proved again… a soaring delight from start to finish… The cartoons may be great fun, but it’s the human side that makes Gorillaz really swing.”—DAILY TRIBUNE (MI)

“Mind blowing… expectations were blown out of the water”—TWIN CITIES MEDIA

“”[Gorillaz’s set] wasn’t played so much as detonated on the Downtown Stage on Sunday as the three-day Life is Beautiful music and arts festival came to an incendiary close… The band’s 20-song, 90-minute set was paced for maximum impact”–LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL (10 best LIB 2017 performances: Gorillaz #1)

“Albarn and company put on an all-star show that practically felt like a festival in and of itself.”—YAHOO MUSIC

Humanz was released April 28th on Warner Bros. to widespread critical acclaim, reaching #1 and #2 in the U.S. and U.K. album charts respectively, and topping the iTunes chart in 60 plus countries around the world. The 14-track album is available on standard CD, vinyl and as a digital download, as well as a 19-track 2-CD Deluxe. A limited edition Super Deluxe Vinyl Box Set featuring new and previously unreleased ‘b-sides’ / alternate versions of album tracks, is available to pre-order via gorillaz.com/store now. Produced by Gorillaz, The Twilite Tone of D /\ P and Remi Kabaka and recorded in London, Paris, New York, Chicago and Jamaica, Humanz comes seven years on from the release of albums The Fall and Plastic Beach. Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (guitar), Russel Hobbs (drums) and 2D (vocals) are – as always – joined by a stellar line up of featured artists which includes Jehnny Beth (Savages), Danny Brown, Benjamin Clementine, De La Soul, D.R.A.M., Peven Everett, Anthony Hamilton, Grace Jones, Zebra Katz, Kelela, Mavis Staples, Vince Staples, Popcaan, Pusha T, Jamie Principle and Kali Uchis among others.

U2: “YOU’RE THE BEST THING ABOUT ME” OFFICIAL VIDEO

U2: “YOU’RE THE BEST THING ABOUT ME” OFFICIAL VIDEO

U2 have released the official video for “You’re The Best Thing About Me,” the first single from their highly anticipated 14th album, Songs of Experience set for release later this year.

The video, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, sees the members of U2 reveling in the sights and sounds of New York City where, as a young Dublin band, they played their first U.S. club gig in December 1980 beginning a love affair with the city which has endured for almost 40 years.

Shot earlier this month while the band were on tour and featuring U2 in performance, the video is a fitting backdrop for the “You’re The Best Thing About Me” – Bono’s love letter to his wife Ali – and serves as a visual tapestry of tribute to New York and a serenade to the city’s iconic symbols of American compassion and liberty.

“Their most epic statement yet—their best in years too… worthy of the ‘60s and ‘70s rock gods”—PEOPLE

“Grohl and the Foos rework rock history into an album that pays homage to, and uses their love for, the late greats to reinvigorate the band. It’s an album for rock fans and rock stars: The Foo Fighters rank among the best of both.”—AV CLUB

“Their most balanced record yet… adds big-studio texture without diluting the band’s raw tumult… The highlight is ‘The Sky Is a Neighborhood,’ a hulking dream-metal anthem: ‘Trouble to the right and left,’ Grohl sings, driving into the darkness with a Bic lighter raised to the heavens.”—ROLLING STONE

“Easily the finest album of the Foo Fighters’ 20-plus year recording career, an artistic breakthrough that hopefully marks the start of an exciting new era in the band’s continued musical odyssey.”—POPMATTERS

Foo Fighters’ ninth studio album Concrete and Gold has entered the Billboard 200 at #1, with sales of nearly 130,000 copies in the first week since its September 15 release on Roswell Records/RCA Records.

The second FF album to hit #1 in the U.S.–the first being 2011’s Wasting Light—Concrete and Gold has also posted the band’s biggest ever first week numbers outside its home country. At press time, the album’s world domination included #1 debuts in a total of eleven countries: The U.S., the UK (the band’s fourth UK #1), Australia (its seventh Australian #1), New Zealand (its sixth #1 in New Zealand), Canada (the band’s third Canadian #1), Ireland (first FF #1 since 2002), Norway, Austria, Greece, Japan and the Netherlands—the latter three territories seeing their first #1 Foo Fighters record. Additionally, Concrete and Gold bowed at #2 in Germany, Sweden, Italy and Belgium, #3 in Finland, and #9 in France, marking the band’s first French top 10 debut.

Additional #1 debuts are expected as international sales numbers are tallied throughout the coming week.

Concrete and Gold’s arrival was most recently heralded by “The Sky Is A Neighborhood,” visually realized as a Grohl-directed kaleidoscopic sci-fi mini-epic as hypnotic as the slow burning stadium stomper that gave it life. The run-up to Concrete and Gold began just as auspiciously, with the June 1 surprise release of the Billboard Mainstream Rock #1 smash summer anthem of 2017, “Run.” With more than 2 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours, “Run” rocketed into the top 5 of the iTunes video chart and the top of the 15 iTunes singles chart—quickly amassing the highest first-day numbers of any single in the Foo Fighters’ career. And now finally 2017’s most massive and ambitious rock n roll opus is available to all as it sits atop the global charts.

Concrete and Gold will naturally be supported with an extensive trek of the arena, stadium and festival stages of the world. The U.S. leg kicks off October 7 with the band’s Cal Jam 17 festival at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA: a non-stop 100% live 12-hour rock n roll extravaganza featuring Queens Of The Stone Age, Cage The Elephant, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, Royal Blood, Japandroids, Wolf Alice, Bob Mould, The Struts, Bully, Circa Waves, Babes in Toyland, Adia Victoria, Fireball Ministry, The Obsessed, Pinky Pinky, Starcrawler, White Reaper… as well as camping, carnival rides, a water park, attractions, a mobile recording studio & so much more. On Friday night, October 6, campers will also experience the world’s best Go-Go band Big Tony & Trouble Funk, an outdoor movie theater and many other surprises.

For further information, go to Caljamfest.com.Concrete and Gold was written and performed by Foo Fighters, produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, and mixed by Darrell Thorp. Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee.
