His Apollo Theater show on the February 17 release date of his new Prisoner (PAX AM/Blue Note) was one of the hottest tickets in recent NYC memory. His May 3rd Beacon Theater Prisoner Tour date has sold out. The Manhattan media has heaped accolades on Prisoner, not least of which NEW YORK Magazine hailing the new LP as “genius… the best thing he’s put out in a decade”…
… And now, due to overwhelming demand, Ryan and his band will add a second show at New York’s Beacon Theater on May 2nd.
And with demand for more dates on the Prisoner tour escalating everywhere, a May 6th show at Philadelphia has been added to the itinerary.
Presales for the newly added Prisoner tour dates begin March 15th at 10am ET, with tickets going on sale to the general public March 17th at 11am ET.
Ryan Adams’ Prisoner debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top Album chart, #1 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart and #8 on the Top-200. The album continues to generate some of the best critical notices of the multiple-Grammy-nominated Adams’ storied career, while the additional NYC date is one of several new shows added to the Prisoner Tour to accommodate demand.
Meanwhile, reviews of the tour’s first few stops in the southern U.S. are already echoing the raves that heralded Prisoner’s release:
“Adams’ set was among one of the best sounding the National has hosted in recent years… Richmond seemed energized for a second evening with Adams.”—RVA Magazine
“Adams performed 26 songs in a set that stretched past two hours, with no intermission, no encore and no lack of intensity… his strongest statement of resistance and resolve. That the audience sang along with, and not over, Adams… proved just how far he and his fans have come.”—SOUTH FLORIDA.com

With the Flowers In The Dirt Archive Collection edition’s March 24th release date via MPL/Capitol/UMe fast approaching, Paul McCartney has confirmed a very special Record Store Day exclusive.
To commemorate Record Store Day this April 22nd, a limited edition three-song cassette of Paul and Elvis Costello’s Flowers In The Dirt demos will be made available at participating RSD stores.
The limited edition cassette-only release will be the first time these recordings–I Don’t Want To Confess, Shallow Grave and Mistress And Maid—will be made available in the same form as when Paul and Elvis first cut them directly to tape.
Speaking about these tracks Paul said: “The demos are red hot off the skillet and that’s why we wanted to include them on this boxed set. What’s great about these songs is that they’ve just been written. So there’s nothing more hot off the skillet as I say. So that was the kind of great instant thing about them. I hadn’t listened to them in ages but when I did I knew we had to put them out. We made a little tape of them and sent them to Elvis, who loved them too. We said we should put out an EP or something and now the moment’s finally arrived.”
For a sneak peek at the cassette demo experience, go here.
The demos will be made available digitally only as part of the Deluxe Edition when Flowers In The Dirt is released as the 10th installment in the multiple-GRAMMY-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection.
The Paul McCartney Archive Collection release of Flowers In The Dirt was, as always, personally curated and overseen by Paul himself.
In celebration of the release of their fifth album Heartworms – out today via Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records – The Shins have released not one but TWO videos for the “joyfully infectious” (NPR) single “Name For You”, with one featuring an alternate version of the song.
What began as an exercise in songwriting transformed into a commentary on what it means to be a songwriter. After writing the first track for Heartworms, James Mercer decided to recreate the song from scratch. Driven by its malleability, its ability to be foundationally identical, yet aesthetically and sonically utterly new, Mercer continued experimenting with each subsequent track until he had two complete albums: one original and one “flipped”.
Mercer’s ability to create two totally divergent albums from the same underlying compositions not only highlights his immense capability as a songwriter, but also functions as a reminder of what it means to be an artist, how an artist acts as both the master and facilitator of his artistic product.
Our first taste of these parallel reality albums comes in the form of two videos based on first single “Name For You”.
The first video, which accompanies the album version of the song, follows a day in the life of prominent skateboarders Savannah Headden and Samarria Brevard (acclaimed X Games veterans). Directed by The Shins’ drummer Jon Sortland, this lo-fi version set in Southern California is embellished with bursts of Dillon Moore’s cartoonish animations. Watch the video at http://smarturl.it/NFYofficial.
The second video is paired with the alternate version of “Name For You”, which Mercer re-composed as a borderline sinister new-wave track. Directed by Zaiba Jabbar and co-directed by Jon Sortland and Mark Watrous, this neo-noir version stars trans-icon and actress in Amazon’s hit series Transparent Trace Lysette, and accentuates the non-binary nature of gender. Watch the video at http://smarturl.it/NFYflipped.
In the same way that each version of the song serves to redefine its underlying composition, their corresponding videos serve as a reflection of the tonality of each song as they work to frame and redefine womanhood.
Fans can go to theshins.com/nameforyouvideo to see both videos in real time as they play simultaneously: simply move the switch to the left or right to go from watching the video with the album version of the song to the alternate video with the “flipped” version of “Name For You”. The “flipped” version of “Name For You” is also available to stream or download at http://smarturl.it/NFYouFlipped.
Following a jam-packed release week, The Shins will be stopping by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for a special appearance on March 13th. Tune in at 11:35pm EST.
The band has also added more shows to their tour in support of Heartworms with new dates added for Memphis, Las Vegas, Pittsburg, Boston and more. Presales for these shows begin March 13th at 10am local time, with tickets going on sale to the general public on March 17th at 10am local time. Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a copy of Heartworms.
Don’t forget to enter the special contest to win The Shins’ first van: a 1990 Ford 350 Clubwagon. To enter, visit theshins.com/van and submit a video of you or your band covering a track from Heartworms.

“There are some people out there who just don’t know where to start with The Bad Seeds. Others know the catalogue better than I do! This release is designed to be a way into three decades of music making. That’s a lot of songs. The songs we have chosen are the ones that have stuck around, for whatever reason. Some songs are those that demand to be played live. Others are lesser songs that are personal favourites of ours. Others are just too big and have too much history to leave out. And there are those that didn’t make it, poor things. They are the ones you must discover by yourselves.”Nick Cave
Lovely Creatures is the most comprehensive overview of the recorded work of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to date. Spanning thirty years of music from their debut album From Her To Eternitythrough to Push The Sky Away their 15th studio album, the collection navigates one of the most exhilarating, idiosyncratic and inventive bodies of work created in contemporary music.
Included are long-standing live favourites “Stagger Lee” and “The Mercy Seat”, their hit single from 1995 “Where The Wild Roses Grow” through to recent fan favourites “Jubilee Street” and “We No Who U R”. There are songs that newcomers may only know from their appearance on film and television soundtracks, notably “O Children” (Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Pt. I) and the ubiquitous “Red Right Hand”, most recently familiar to fans of the series Peaky Blinders.
The album was compiled by Nick Cave and founding member Mick Harvey, with help from the current Bad Seeds. Band members past and present raided their personal archives to provide previously unseen photos and memorabilia which have been collected into a beautiful hardcover book, along with a series of original essays. The book is available as part of the limited edition ‘Super Deluxe’ album collection that also comes with a two hour DVD containing rare and unseen archive footage. Lovely Creatures is available in four formats, all featuring personal and rare photographs of the band: Standard CD, Triple LP, Deluxe 3CD with DVD and the Super Deluxe Limited Edition package.
Lovely Creatures was originally intended for release in 2014. Since its postponement the band have recorded and released their highly acclaimed 16th studio album Skeleton Tree.

After generating yet another wave of critical acclaim with the release of “instant classic” (ELLE) “slice of warm and wistful folk-pop” (PASTE) third single “Mildenhall”, The Shins have unleashed a fourth advance track from Heartworms: “Painting A Hole”. Textured with spiraling vocals and a body-swaying rhythm, “Painting A Hole” employs James Mercer’s singular lyrical voice to examine the way our society perpetuates beliefs that rarely reflect our everyday reality (“You’re painting a hole/Can you crawl up inside it?”).
James on the message behind the song:
“People create beliefs or inherit them and those beliefs very rarely reflect the reality we live in every day. Like a coyote in a cartoon, painting a hole in the side of a cliff then falling through it, I think these belief systems are just about as ridiculous as that.”
In addition to the dates already announced in support of Heartworms, The Shins have confirmed three exclusive, intimate shows to celebrate the album’s release: March 10th (release day) at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, March 14th at Bowery Ballroom in New York and March 15th at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Friday March 3 – With less than a month to go until the release of the reissue of Paul McCartney’s classic album Flowers In The Dirt (the 10th installment of the Grammy-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection) – Paul has released some photographs taken from the video shoots for the song ‘This One’.
In 1989 Paul shot two videos for the song, taken from the album ‘Flowers In The Dirt’.
The first, directed by Tim Pope, was filmed in June (1989) at the Albert Wharf Studio in Battersea, London. Referred to as the ‘Eastern’ promo the video featured scenes with meditation and as well as featuring Paul, Linda and the band the promo includes Indian dancers. Photographer Eugene Adebari was on set to capture still photographs on the day.
The second video was directed by ‘light painting’ photographer Dean Chamberlain and was filmed in a rehearsal barn in the South-East of England in July (1989).
Today, Paul has released a selection of images from both video shoots to coincide with the song, ‘This One’, being available as an Instant Grat track for people who have digitally pre-ordered ‘Flowers In The Dirt’
Those who pre-order the album digitally will also get Instant Grat tracks – previously unreleased original demo versions of My Brave Face and That Day Is Done – both recorded at one of the early writing sessions.
The reissue of Flowers In The Dirt is available from March 24th.

Friday February 24th – With a month to go until the release of the reissue of Paul McCartney’s classic album Flowers In The Dirt (the 10th installment of the Grammy-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection) – Paul has released some photographs taken by Linda McCartney (with the exception of image 9 – taken by Herman Leonard) during the recording of the album.
The photographs show Paul working with Elvis Costello, who he collaborated with on four of the tracks featured on the album (My Brave Face, You Want Her Too, Don’t Be Careless Love and That Day Is Done) as well as a shared moment with George Martin, who did the string arrangement for Put It There.
The majority of the album was recorded at Paul’s Hog Hill Mill studio in East Sussex. This is also where some of the tracks were written with Elvis Costello.
Recalling working with Elvis, Paul said: “I was looking for someone to work with, trying to think of something imaginative to do and one day my manager said ‘do you fancy writing with Elvis Costello? It might be a great thing’. I said ‘yeah’. He (Elvis) came down to my studio and we sat opposite each other with our guitars because I had said to him early on that this is how I’d written with John, with me being left handed and him being right handed, it was almost like looking in a mirror. We did virtually what John and I did which was just make up a song a day.”
Those who pre-order the album digitally from today will get Instant Grat tracks – previously unreleased original demo versions of My Brave Face and That Day Is Done – both recorded at one of the early writing sessions.
“Because we were working above the studio, we’d just go downstairs and make the record, just the two of us singing exactly what we had made up. So there were a few recordings that haven’t been released. We keep saying to each other that they’re good because they are raw, it’s hot off the skillet’.
The reissue of Flowers In The Dirt is available from March 24th.
OUT MAY 5 ON RISE RECORDS NEW TRACK “INCURABLY INNOCENT” OUT NOW NEW TOUR DATES ON SALE TBC
“As precise in its aggression as At The Drive In’s post-hardcore prog-rock has always been; it’s also a gauntlet thrown down”—THE NEW YORK TIMES
“Ladies and gentlemen, the band is back to… save the day.”—NERDIST
With praise still reverberating from December’s unveiling of “Governed By Contagions,” At The Drive In has issued another clarion call from its first album in 17 years: “Incurably Innocent” is the second track to be released in advance of that record, titledin • ter a • li • a, now available for pre-order and confirmed for release May 5 on Rise Records.
Pitting spacey phaser and thrash-y riffing against a sidewinder hook and siren wail, “Incurably Innocent,” described by vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala as “a song about sexual abuse and being able to finally speak out,” reveals additional facets of the kaleidoscopic in • ter a • li • a (Latin for “among other things”). Produced by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Rich Costey at Hollywood’s Sound Factory, the 11-song 41-minute in • ter a • li • a picks up where 2000’s Relationship of Command left off… and rockets off into myriad other trajectories as unpredictable as they are intense.
in • ter a • li • a’s release will be immediately followed by a new series of live dates beginning in At The Drive In’s native El Paso, Texas and including headline dates at the likes of the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco, the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and more. Le Butcherettes will support on the new dates (below in BOLD). For further information, updates and tickets, go to www.atthedriveinmusic.com/tour/.
